June 2017 car rental

We just decided three weeks ago to fly for our upcoming June trip and I was dreading what kind of car rental prices I'd get for a 12 day rental (need a minivan for a family of 6). The rates I was originally getting were close to $700 so I was happy to get a rate of $531 through Costco but today I was able to rebook at a rate of $379! It pays to keep checking!

Can I ask what company this was with? Our trip is end of June for 10 days and I am only getting prices of over $500 for economy or standard car. I have tried multiple companies with multiple codes. I have a BJs membership, but it seems Costco is much better from what I have been reading.

I don't know which company the PP got those rates with, but I'm looking at prices for our late June trip (11 day rental, 6/21 - 7/2), and Dollar's city special rates have dropped significantly. I'm coming up with a minivan for a total of about $340!

Have you rented with Dollar before. Some people have had negative experiences, but I know those can happen anywhere at one time or another. I did just see a rate for an intermediate car for $372 for our dates. That is the smallest I think I can go with a 6'3" dh!

I did just find a rental with Budget for June 27-July 7 for 300.46 with the pay ahead option. It makes me nervous to pay ahead since to cancel it will cost me $50 and I like to keep trying for better rates. So, what do you think, take it and don't look back, or pay $330-pay when you arrive and hope for a better deal. Playing the game, but at this point $300 feels pretty good.

I have rented with them before, with no issues, but it's been a while. I usually try to stick with Alamo - I love the convenience of going straight to the garage AND getting to pick my own vehicle from the class that I booked. I already had an Alamo reservation I booked months ago for about $360, and decided that $20 wasn't worth switching to Dollar. But, if it drops more I might reconsider...

Just my opinion, but for a $30 difference I'd book the pay later price and keep looking. I have found that rates often drop once you are inside of 2 weeks from your dates.

I was just able to book 9 days at the beginning of June - Budget full-size using Southwest's code and a $25 coupon code from BJs (I think there is also one that is found on the Budget website or Mousesavers). Came to $229.54 including all fees and taxes pay-later ($180.52 before all of the fees). It was almost $200 more yesterday.

It was only the full size car that was this cheap. I have a full-size booked at Dollar for $242 total using a city special from a couple of weeks ago. Dollar's city special is almost $100 higher right now.

I am not getting these rates yet, but based on these last 2 responses I took the pay later option and hope for a better price in the next 2 weeks!

Quoting myself!! Update ...

rebooked on Budget - same 8-day period (I mis-counted - it's actually an 8-day rental), full-size $175.50 now including tax & fees ($119.56 before) used same codes as above except had to use $10 code instead of $25 since the price came down so low and no longer hit the threshold for the higher coupon.

So, saved another $55

Also, Dollar city specials are also way down - not as low as Budget though.

Down again!!

$162.16 including taxes & fees full-size at Budget ($109 before) - again used Southwest discount code and $10 coupon from BJs

be careful with budget at the mco airport. TONS of negative reviews online about this particular location. Upcharges, long lines and waits. Unless you have fast break, and it isn't the first time using it, you will be waiting in a very long line

Thank you! Mine is down as well. Now to just decide if to stay with my Undercover Tourist rental through Alamo which is more $$$, but I really like picking my own car, or go with Budget. I've used both companies with no problems before. Hmmm...

Thanks for the warning, currently reading reviews ...

Just booked full-size for the same period with Avis (had good luck with them at MCO in Jan.) for $190 incl. tax & fees. Also, booked a reservation with Dollar for the same for $163. I just prefer the no-fee for a spouse policy of Avis/Budget.

Gonna ruminate on things over the next few days and see where prices continue to go. So, we'll see which one of the 3 companies I stick with. Still hoping Alamo's rates drop.

Huge price drop today with Budget. June 2nd - the 11th in a compact for $154 using BJ's BCD code V923000 and coupon code MUWZ060. The price wasn't showing up correctly on the updated reservation email and I did have to call, but she quickly fixed it and resent the email.

We had two big drops since yesterday. We had a minivan reserved through Costco for Alamo for $760 June 28-July 14. I was checking Costco yesterday and Budget had dropped to $541. I rebooked and checked again today to find it down to $500!!! I'm hoping it keeps dropping.

Dollar is way down today on minivans. Prices were $600-$700+, but today for our June 2 to June 10 rental it is $259.23 with city special and pre-pay. Pay later is only about $20 higher. This is a great price for a van!

Woo hoo! My rental (June 18-23) just dropped to 118 including all taxes and fees through Alamo/Priceline. Picking up at MCO and returning to Car Care Center. Yay!! :yay:

I just canceled my budget rental and booked with Alamo since prices were a bit lower now and got a full size car which will make my 6'3" dh happier. I am still hoping the price comes down a bit more, as I am still paying a little over $300, 6/27-7/7. Previously though, the cost for a rental with Alamo was coming up over $500 so comparatively I feel good about this. Thanks to the posters who recommended I NOT do the "pay now" option, which would not have been able to be canceled. :-)

Alamo Coupon Code AD3868JST is $25.00 off a Specialty Car Rental
