September 9, 2018 WBTA - Dover to New York

:wave2:Hi All,

My husband and I, along with my two sisters, have hopped onto this cruise from the May 2018 EBTA. We did the 2016 EBTA, which was similar to this...slightly different ports, but same countries. I am expecting the weather to be in the 60s and 70s with smooth sailing all the way. Our 2016 EBTA was a rocky trip...3 days of high seas, but we shouldn't experience that since it is fall and the weather is calmer...unless there is a rare hurricane .

In the interest of full disclosure I should tell you that weather is not my friend on Disney Cruises. We have been on 5 cruises that went to Castaway Cay: one time we couldn't dock because of the winds; once it poured...literally a deluge so we couldn't go; once was so cold we stuck our toes in the water and went back to the ship. Twice it was beautiful. On our Mexican Riviera cruise there was an earthquake in Japan which resulted in a serious Tsunami threat so we skipped Cabo. On our EBPC we had a hurricane and couldn't go to any Mexican port except Cozumel. On our EBTA I already mentioned the high seas. Sooooo I have Grand hopes that this cruise will have smooth sailing.:rolleyes1

I really appreciate all the information that is already available here, and looking forward to getting to know you all.

:welcome:

We're a quiet bunch here for now, I imagine this will change when 2018 rolls around :)
I don't know about you, but I am already planning my itinerary!

I am starting our planning also! We are going to London a few days before the cruise as we love that city! Plus we'll spend a few days in NYC when we get there, as our daughter lives there. I visited Cork once before and loved it, and I am looking forward to more time to explore.

We visited Sydney on our EBTA, and did the White Glove ALexander Graham Bell tour, which was well worth it. He kept a tiny "notes" journal where he wrote down any idea he had on a given day. We got to hold it and read it, among other precious things of his. It was such an amazing tour. We finished by going to the Gaelic College and went to their gift shop which had very high quality Celtic art, clothes and jewelry all made by artisans at the college. The best part was the kilt shop. They had tartans of all the clans (most of them ended up there due to the clearances in Scotland). I am really looking forward to Sydney again.

Not sure what we will do in the other ports...this planning phase is the fun part for me.

:tink:I was wondering....I am planning a few days in London before the cruise. I will probably stay at a Disney-approved hotel the last night so
I can get the transportation to Dover, but I would like to stay at a more "English" type hotel near the center of the city. Does anyone have any
suggestions??? I am a solo senior (Yikes I hate that term) gal looking for some time at Buckingham palace and SHOPPING!!! Thanks

I prefer B&Bs when visiting London :D We are also planning on a few days before and I found a lovely one near King's Cross. There are many hotels and such in the area around the Ritz Carlton and Harrod's, just depends on your budget. I'm sure your travel agent can help you find one within your budget and taste ^_^

I would love to hear more about this too.

Beth

I usually do the planning on my own but the B and B idea sounds interesting. The Hilton is near Selfridges so that is a plus! Always have to up the
budget when staying in big cities, so that's why I stay at the POP in WDW so I can afford fancier hotels every where else! The older I get, the fancier I like!
Tea with the Queen would be so lovely! (haha)princess:

:confused:AIRPORT

I can fly first class all the way if I fly home from Newark for about 1/3 the points of basic cabin when I use a New York airport, how do you get to Newark ? :confused3

Is that a regular taxi run ? Do you think it is under $ 100 U.S.

OK I have never done it (because even being born in NY I would not want to go through that hassle) but you should Check TRIPADVISOR and other sights. There is no easy way to get between airports. The taxi MAY be less than $100.00 if you are lucky but the traffic is very bad, there are tolls to consider, and the 2 airports are not that close in reality. NY taxi drivers are not exactly a helpful bunch( some drivers have sketchy English skills.) It also depends on how much time you have between flights too as you will have to go through customs, there may be flight delays, etc. Uber will be from $120.00 up depending on traffic and it could take 1-2 hours at best but if you are traveling during the week at rush hour it could be longer.

I believe they're asking about the cost of port to Newark not JFK to Newark. I believe Newark may be a little closer to port or about the same distance.

Your can either just Uber/Lyft/taxi or the train from Penn Station, which involves a shorter cab ride from Port to Penn Sta

yes, port to Newark Airport, flight is from Newark back home and very very cheap (points). we don't do uber or lyft, have a thing about non licensed services, like knowing the drivers and vehicle passed city requirements. don't mean to start a fire storm of people telling me how much better, this is a personal thing to us.

No judgment here. I feel the same way.

We just booked this cruise, and are doing the British Isles cruise before this one we plan on doing 5-7 days in London before that. This is our third Transatlantic, I love the sea days. I am traveling with my husband and daughter who will be almost 13 when we travel we are from Nova Scotia. I have never been to Sydney or Saint John, and am looking forward to being a tourist in Halifax.

Anyone doing fish extender exchange on this cruise? It will be our 3rd cruise, 1st with the boys, who will be 2 and almost 4, so we are terrified and excited!
