Will dogs be allowed at a DVC resort??

Has anyone who has written an email to DVC regarding the potential of allowing dogs in DVC units received a response? I sent my email 48 hours ago asking a couple of very specific questions and have yet to receive either an acknowledgement or a response.

If they create a new booking category (or categories), they will have to pull them from the rest or at least create sub categories. Then there's the ? of waitlists.

Which seems to bug them less than it does you or I; I think we see the logistics issues of too many categories in a timeshare, and Disney doesn't think that's a big deal.

Wow I had no idea that dogs were allowed on property. This is crazy IMO!!!
This really surprises me seems that there is much complaints about housekeeping already!
Seems like a logistical nightmare.

What is Disney's reasoning on this. Is there truly a big demand for people not going to wdw because they can't bring the dog?
Thanks
Kerri

You need to email Ken Potrock's office. When I did this when rumours of this first surfaced a month ago I got a swift response via phone where they said that nothing had been decided but all feedback was welcome. The email is ken.potrock@disney.com . I was impressed with the response.

Unfortunately, service animal issues is a growing concern for landlords (and now DVC too), technically a service animal is NOT a dog, they are considered medical devices like a wheelchair.

Here is the Law
https://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm

Beginning on March 15, 2011, only dogs are recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA.

When it is not obvious what service an animal provides, only limited inquiries are allowed.

Staff may ask two questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability, and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform.

Staff cannot ask about the person’s disability, require medical documentation, require a special identification card or training documentation for the dog, or ask that the dog demonstrate its ability to perform the work or task.

In addition to the provisions about service dogs, the Department’s revised ADA regulations have a new, separate provision about miniature horses that have been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.

Ok, if they allow dogs and you book a room for you and your dog. Disney should classify you as a dog owner and only allow you to book dog friendly rooms from now on even if you don't bring your dog the next time. you want dog friendly rooms then stay in them all the time.

Problem is most owners with true service dogs, don't want to be around regular dogs or animals because it causes issues with their service dogs.

Disney really opened a can of worms with this new policy, I wondering if they are trying to see if it would be worth it for them to build a completely new resort just for dogs and their owners.

If they do a true allergy cleaning where they change out all cloth including the curtains, wipe down the walls (etc) and steam clean the carpentry, they'd be OK but the likelihood of them doing everything is slim.

I agree that the likelihood is slim even for Disney standards. We've stayed at several resorts who claim to do the deep cleaning for allergies and have yet come across one that takes into account at least the items you mentioned.

I they are stupid enough to allow dogs at a DVC, it should only be at any new (yet to be opened) DVC so owners there would know before they buy.

And charge the appropriate MF's for the upkeep of the resort.......

I completely agree. This is a much better option for those who want to bring their pets. It doesn't affect the resorts we have now and the new pet friendly resorts will be advertised as such. Maintenance will be the responsibility of the owners.

If DVC truly believes there are enough people who want pet friendly accommodations, then they will have no trouble selling these resort points.

Win win for everyone...there will be no chance that guests are given pet friendly rooms if they don't want it and those who want to bring their pets will have a choice to book a pet friendly resort geared for pet care. I'm sure everyone would be happy with this. There's no reason Disney or DVC should feel it necessary to subject guests to any pet issues.

FWIW, a service animal is pretty well defined, and support animals are not the same under law.

In addition, if a service animal is ill-behaved, a landowner/landlord can still punt them. The service is not being refused because "animal" but because "attempted to bite waitress."

IANAL but one of my dear friends is an ADA enforcer for DOJ.

I love dogs. I cannot have any dogs because my family is very allergic to them. My wife has had to go to the hospital numerous times in her life because of lack of breathing from being in the same house as dogs. Dogs cannot enjoy the parks. Dogs are generally uncomfortable in new places. They will damage the rooms and then we would have to pay for it with our dues. The day they announce dogs are allowed in DVC rooms is the day I say goodbye forever to WDW and selling my DVC contracts.

I love our dog, but do not consider a Disney vacation to be pet friendly. This is a trial test period. If it is a success it will be expanded and I do think DVC will be included. We can all write in advance but I get the feeling only comments made by actual guests there during the trial are going to be given much consideration.

For others.... in particular, OWNERS at VWL (AKA BRV)....

Here is the "Declaration of Condominium". Pay particular attention to Section 12.9, top of page 21: "No pets. All pets are prohibited. No pets of any type are allowed on Condominium Property"

Declaration as filed in FL Would be enclosed. Site decided it was too large. The pertinant section:

I for one would love to see a DVC that is pet friendly! Our dog is not just a pet but a member of our family. We have boarded him at Best Friends which was nice, but would love to have him with us. I do agree that Disney would need to build a new resort that would cater to pet owners. I understand that many people have allergies but i am really surprised by how many nasty comments i am reading about this issue. There are many responsible pet owners with well behaved pets. Probably better behaved than most children I see at Disney.

I know BWV has exactly the same. Suspect they are all the same. However it can be unilaterally amended by DVD (says so further along in the declaration) but only if it is not to the detriment of owners. So that's what the question would be if they tried to do it. Is it to the detriment of owners.

They'd be much safer putting it to a member vote than trying the unilaterally route.

As an aside it is the clause about them being unable to change it unilaterally if it is to the detriment of members which would stop them ever reducing home resort priority for resale members, but that is another story.

VERY good! When in doubt, the CONTRACT we signed is the authoritative reference. If nothing else, it establishes a GREAT Basis for a Class Action Lawsuit, IF something occurs. Nothing has actually occurred, but it's GOOD to understand DVC owner recourse under the CONTRACT, in the event that it does.

Must add - my dear wife and I are SO glad that we are homed at BRV. A SEPARATE BUILDING DVC. The "Dog Hotel" issue could get dicey for "shared with Main Hotel" DVC properties - like Poly, and CCV :(.
Off topic, but we just got back from staying at BRV. It was wonderful as always. Quiet, rooms in great shape, and the grounds around are spectacular. Disney did a wonderful job with the new additions and the resort is just gorgeous. We had a lake view room and it was truly lake view!! Love how everything turned out.

I wrote and received this reply:

Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

We appreciate your interest in the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort
participating in the pet friendly room trial and we will be happy to
assist you! At this time, this trial is only valid for 1 year and there
are no plans to add any of the DISNEY VACATION CLUB Resorts to this
trial period.

The feedback we receive from our Members is very important to us as it
lets us know what we are doing right and what we can do better. As we
strive to improve the benefits and services we provide to our Members,
we are constantly evaluating our operation. You may be assured your
input will be taken seriously.

So they say DVC resorts will not be included in the trial, but there is nothing about the future.

LOVE THIS! Even though we own at BLT I would meet you at YC with our four kids in a NY minute! As I have posted elsewhere I do applaud Disney on doing this test and hope they don't give ammunition to the naysayers by not enforcing the rules. For several reasons I would not bring my fur kids since Disney only allows two and we have four so no leaving two and bringing two. We also would not fly and put even two in the cargo hold of a plane.

For those that say I don't want to hear the dogs, I get it..I don't enjoy hearing your kids scream up and down the hallways and in the rooms either. For those that say I am allergic to dog dander, hair etc I say you have probably already been exposed to these since service dogs are allowed in any rooms per ADA law. For those that say I am going to tell the front desk of any rules being broken by dog owners I say I guess I will start tattling to the front desk about rules I see being broken like kids in the pool with just diapers and without the cover up plastic swim trunks.

People please take a deep breath and stop thinking Armageddon will happen and every room of every resort will be full of dogs! I also will be emailing Disney executives to applaud their dog decision and also letting them know they need to enforce these rules since many will be just waiting for any little rule enfraction.
You'll be limited to two smaller dogs.

I don't think any other resorts period will be included in the trial, they selected them already. It's what happens a year hence that bothers me.
