First DVC trip - what to expect?

On my last trip in the fall I decided that my family needed to become DVC members. Our home resort is Poly and our first trip as DVC will be this fall.

I've been reading through some of the various threads and have a few questions.
We get a coffee maker in our room. Does the resort give you the coffee and filters for it or is that something that we now need to bring with? DH loved being able to have his coffee while we got ready before we went down for breakfast or went to the park. If we have to bring our own how do we know what filters to bring? (We use a kuerig at home)

Everyone talks about the ease of access to MK and Epcot because of the resort being on the monorail line. How is the transportation to DHS or AK?

I had more questions but my mind just went blank.

You'll want to bring coffee and filters - Mr. Coffee 10-12 cup basket filters. They'll provide you with a single pack of coffee and one of decaf.

Also bring toiletries. Since your room doesn't get cleaned every day, you'll be using (or washing or paying for new) the same towels every day. And you'll get a single set of toiletries - so most people bring shampoo and soap.

With the Poly you are probably in a studio, but a rule of thumb is bring food and personal consumables (including laundry soap if you are doing laundry), DVC will provide room consumables (dishwasher soap, paper towels, toilet paper).

Remember that checkin is often later than what you are used to with CRO - have a plan for what you will do if you arrive at 11am and don't get into your room until 5pm. If you are traveling with little kids, that may involve figuring out a spot for resting.

Some people are reporting getting towels changed daily with the new daily trash. This surprised me. Wouldn't count on it, but some definately reporting it.

For transportation to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios you can use the bus system. I’m pretty sure you can also use the Minnie Van service from the poly since there is a DVC portion. It’s $20 one way to anywhere on property for the van service where as the buses are free.

First? WELCOME HOME! The up front DVC cost will be serious, but well worth it :). About 6-7 years? You will hit "break even" vs DISCOUNTED DVC, or main Hotel, rooms... assuming that you did NOT Finance.

CURRENTLY (last trip 11-2017) - Full room clean at the 4 day mark (towels, trash, bedding). Trash and Tidy at 8 day mark (towels, trash).
You WILL get coffee and filters. If someone fails to do this? Hit the Desk. Now, coffee maker sized for FOUR - so a lot of coffee.

Transportation - about as good as any other WDW Deluxe. Poly has Monorail to MK (when it works), and BOATS/BUS to MK, when the Monorail fails (it will - regularly).

Thank you all for the helpful information. I don't mind the towels not being changed out. When we travel we usually lleave the DND sign up because I don't like people in my room but I've seen that those are disappearing.

DH has asked me if the cups in the room are the disposable hot cups or if they are actual coffee cups that need to be washed everyday.

Regular cups that have to be washed. Only paper plates and utensils.

Oh and you might want to handwash them when you get in/before using them too.

Oh, I missed the studio part. You might have a small Mr. Coffee in the studio. The store at the Poly will sell filters. One bedrooms and larger have the 10-12 cup machines - we don't stay in Studios ourselves, but it sounds like they most often have the smaller coffee unit - although it doesn't sound like its consistant. If you call, they will bring you a bigger one though, so the 10-12 cup filters might work best.
