Effective 2/25/2018, you need at least 75 direct points to qualify for Membership Extras

So I decided rather late last week to do the add on and while I will wait to hear back for a few days my guide gave me the impression that it could be too late. He did say I could add on 25 at Aulani.

Background on us, family of four, 2 young ones, 200 BRV Resale, typically stay in a one bedroom at a non-home resort. If we need a studio like we will this December, we book home resort. We did buy annual passes last year and I will not re-new this year but I could see us purchasing annual passes again in the future. And we need the 25 points as we typically stay in August and or January.

Besides the obvious higher cost and higher maintenance fees are there any other concerns with doing this that I am missing?

Do you need the extra 25 every year ? If not you can always get 24 one time use when needed from Disney at 7 months without the huge upfront cost and yearly dues?

You would have to do the math one the discounts etc. and see if it makes sense for you to buy 25.

It would make sense cost wise - just making sure there are no additional downfalls of having Aluani as a home resort for the 25 when we typically just stay at WDW. We may visit there once but who knows when.

The only thing I can think of is the risk that benefits go away altogether (specifically AP discounts). A concern for everyone and hopefully never a reality!

I think it's a good move for you since you are using a 7 mo booking window anyway. Also, what you are doing is giving yourself "direct" membership thru 2062. So, you now could pick up a new resale contract to replace BRV someday and still have your direct benefits (hopefully) for all or a good portion of the next contract. Or, if you are kind of done with Disney by 2042 and want no new contract, your Aulani could still get you a short stay every 3 years.....because you know you'll never really be done with Disney. Ha ha.

I have a 2042 direct contract already, so I'm good for now. But I want to add on at BLT in a few years. If I buy that resale, my direct membership will expire before my BLT points will. Not sure how I feel about that.....except that it's going to have to remain a future problem. I'd probably go ahead and add the 25 at BLT now, but they're not available and I'm not sure how I'd incorporate 25 somewhere else.

Before I spent the $$ on 25 points at Aulani (purchase & dues), I’d study the points chart there and have a plan for using them there and/or at 7 months for the next 3-5 years. IMHO 25 points anywhere but my home resort just seems like too few to be useful.

Before I bought 25 at Aulani, I’d seriously consider 50 at CCV. The Aulani points will essentially be orphaned to 7 months, but I could make CCV work from time to time.

Aulani is a bucket list for us, but if/when we go, it’ll probably be once. 25 points would be next to useless for that.

Agreed, CCV is at least in the neighborhood where you visit, whereas Aulani is thousands of miles away. I'm still waiting to hear on my non-owner waitlist for Poly / BLT, but then again my Guide isn't back in the office until Wednesday. The only thing that happens after Friday is that our requirements go up to 75 points for the perks (I know we would be in for 4 APs out of the gate for two trips in 12 months, one is paid for by the in-laws, so it definitely offsets the premium pretty quickly direct vs. resale at 50 points), although the odds of us buying another 75 points go way down (until add-onitis hits of course).

I called my guild two weeks ago about a 25 pt add on.
We own at SSR, BCV and AKV.
I was interested in a 25 pt contract so that our youngest daughter can get full benefits.
We wanted BLT or Vero but our guild said we had to buy at least 50 points there not the 25.
Is he giving me the correct info

If you're an existing member, you can add on 25pts at any resort (except CCV) as long as it's the same UY and titled exactly the same as your existing contract. If your daughter's name isn't on the original contract, DVD would consider it a new membership and the minimum is 50pts (75pts at CCV).

No she was not old enough to be an owner/member back then so that is why we where thinking of doing an add on now but it sounds like that would not work. I believe we can add her on to our membership via the title company but it will cost a few hundred

If you add her you are giving her a deeded real estate interest. She owns the contract just like you do, she has the same rights, just like you do. You can add via a new deed for $50 or so if you file yourself.

:earsboy: Bill

I have heard of people doing this themselves for a lot less than the title company.
Do you know if there is a line by line list of things that needs to be done for dummies like me to add on my adult daughter living in my household.

You can do it yourself for about $40 per contract.

I gave my credit card on Sunday for an AKV wait list and am still waiting. My guide can see points available and thought the points would be released yesterday but they weren't. She says she is investigating further today and will have more info for me this afternoon.

They took credit card info to get on the waitlist? Ricardo said he put me on a waitlist for 2 resorts but no CC info.

When did you get on the list? Was it right at the announcement? Thank you!

I had my first resale purchase close a couple days before the announcement. Then, on the day the announcement happened, I contacted DVC to get the 25 points added on. However, they hadn't actually input my documents yet to be a member to be able to officially make a 25 point purchase or go on a waitlist. This last weekend (a week later) I was in the system and could make a purchase. My guide called on the weekend and said that she could see points available still so she would "input the order" but that it could take a couple of days "for the points to be released." She took my info at that time. As of yesterday, it still hasn't gone through. She never actually used the word "waitlist" but I'm inferring that I must be on one, which could just be an incorrect assumption on my part. I'm hoping to get good news later today or at least clarity on what's going on.

I had Ricardo as well.

I have 225 pts. I purchased resale at SSR was looking into doing a 25 point add on there with my home use year earlier in the month before I knew anything about the 25/75 change and Ricardo put me on the waitlist.

He called me back on Monday with the points and took a credit card deposit. The points were already in my account yesterday and my online temporary card has changed to blue and I had gained access to all the extra's including that I could now see the DVC Gold APs on the Disney site for purchase.

I lucked out with the timing and wish all of you who are still trying to get your 25pts. good luck.

I bought resale last May at VGC. I called about 25 add on a couple times so they put me on the “closed” waitlist in October. I had given up hope of that ever happening and they called yesterday and told me I still qualify for the perks at 25 points because we made the agreement before Sunday(they still have to send the papers). My points are loaded and card turned blue. Lucky- it’s still possible. Good luck to all still searching.
