Live action Mulan....Disney what are you doing????

So Disney seems to be changing EVERYTHING that makes Mulan great in the new live action movie?

Li Shang is not Mulan's love interest (and may not be in the movie at all). Instead there's a new guy who wants to be "the greatest warrior in the world" and bullies Mulan until he finds out she's a girl apparently? Which seems like a character quite like Gaston to me...but this is Mulan's love interest. *there's speculation that Li Shang is not in the movie because he may be considered Bi do to his feelings when Mulan was a solder*

Also the villian is a Chinese witch...not the Huns... so Mulan is no longer fighting (and winning) against a man...but instead fighting a magical woman.

Disney...WHAT ARE YOU DOING????

Now obviously I haven't seen the new movie...but these changes are degrading to everything that Mulan stands for and why she is so awesome. I'm just so sad and annoyed right now.

Also Mulan is going to apparently have a sister....so will she be fighting for her father or are they going to rope something in so she's actually fighting for her sister?

and Jet Li is the emperor...so are they going to have him swoop in in the last minute and do something awesome and martial art-y to save Mulan in the last moment of an important battle?

The way they are approaching this is as a retelling of the Mulan legend, not as a remake of the animated version. It's essentially a new adaptation. Personally, I like this move since all of the remakes of the animated versions are so faithful to the originals that they basically have no reason to exist. Sure, the live-action Beauty and the Beast was good, but would I ever choose to watch it over the animated version? Personally, I wouldn't. The only one I really like is Maleficent because it at least offers a new spin on the story. I would rather see something more original than a straight remake with the same plot, scenes, and songs.

What surprises me the most about this is the fact that they've nailed the last two live-action adaptations (Jungle Book & Beauty/Beast), and since this is a Disney war musical, this should be fit for the live action screen. Instead, they butchered the plot and cut the best actors and characters all together. They also, btw, seem to be doing the same thing to Lion King, but I like Mulan a lot more, so it doesn't matter as much to me.
