I love credit cards so much!

I wish! No, your account is capped at 30,000 per calendar year. But if you share an address with another SPG member, that person can also get at 30,000 and you can combine those points into one account.

T&C:

even if He doesn't currenly hold the SPG card? (I have 2,he has none at the moment) I had thought in the past, say I had just bought 30k on my acct, we couldn't then use his to buy 30k more, and put them into mine, since that = 60k in one year (?) still trying to decide if this is good deal using the UR credit thingy

Since you have a Capital One you might have already checked, but if not join Credit Wise. I like it because it shows clearly on the account where you are on counting cards last 2 years. Maybe just to double check.

Assuming you are under 5/24 then and also don’t have a crazy amount of credit on your other 4 Chase cards I would definitely apply for the CIP. Then you can refer your wife and end up 180 UR’s! Whole thread on using UR’s for Disney. I did my January WDW trip using UR’s and an end of February trip to Maui with UR’s. They are so versatile. :)
Sounds great. I think the CIP in my name will be my first move. My wife doesn't have a business but I guess we have time to get her one lol.

Ok....I admit it,I skipped a few pages there to get current..... I'm confused by the SPG/Marriott thing still. Any links to a simple rundown of what it means for basic usage? Say for example,I wanted to use spg points next Nov to stay dolphin for 5 nights. Right now it's a cat5, 5th night free,so I know how many spg it would take. How does this translate to marriott usage, since it's going to be marriott after August 1? An would the answer be different if I booked it right now vs. on Aug 15 for that stay? Also, what if I was looking for Jan.10-15 instead (same details otherwise) how does this change what I'm thinking as far as using points/earning points/ knowing the value of a room? in the past it was simple 10k spg= one free night.

Quick note - you'll want to express that "2/5" and "5/5" as 2/24 and 5/24. the 2 = # of cards and the 24 shows that you're talking about the last 24 months.

So yes - you are at 3/24. Here's an interesting wrinkle to throw at you...Chase Business Cards are subject to the 5/24 rule BUT they don't add to your 5/24 count. What that means is you have to be under 5/24 to apply for the CIP or SW Biz BUT getting the card won't increase your "3".

  • If you got the CIP for your wife, you could take advantage of that offer and the $5k spend probably keeps you busy for awhile. Then she'd still only be 2/24.
  • You could potentially consider having her get a CSR (or doing the CSR/CSP double dip we talk about) to get even more UR points. If you hit all 3 of those offers you end up with at least $3,000 towards Disney!
  • Also down the line then she could refer you to the CIP which is a GREAT deal since you can easily combine UR points and then redeem them together toward travel.
  • I think getting 2 SW cards (a biz and personal) at the end of the year is a great idea for you. You're at 3/24 and as you said, you have one "falling off" in November. So if you get a SW Biz you're still 3/24, then get a SW Personal now 4/24 but then that card falls off in Nov and you're still 3/24 heading into 2019.
  • You may not be aware yet but there are rumors that Chase will come out with a new Premium SW personal card this summer that may have an even larger sign up bonus. Stay posted for that! (rumored details are here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/rumor-chase-will-launch-premium-southwest-card/)
I'd say you have the framework of a great strategy. With 4-5 cards this year you could cover a huge part of your upcoming trips. Obviously you understand and enjoy the benefits of the SW CP so keeping that on the list makes sense :) I'd consider focusing on URs too since those can be used to pay for your Disney trip (especially if you like to stay onsite).
Thanks for the clarification on the 5/24 wording.

I'm thinking of applying for the CIP today in my name (my wife doesn't have a business and her name isn't on mine). After the 90 days, I will have her get the CSR and or CSP and 90 days after that I'll be hoping for a SW bonus promotion. Does this sound right?

Yeah - that's a GREAT strategy :). That basically takes you out until January 2019 then! If you do all that - by early 2019 it sounds like you'll have 2 Companion Passes, a ton of SW points and $2k - $3k worth of URs to use on travel! I'm sure you're aware of how the Southwest promo works and that you want to earn your bonuses in Jan 2019 to max the CP (since you already have one I'd guess you already knew that though ;))

There is a rumor that the CIP bonus may increase to 100k for small business week but that would probably be in branch only. The offers on DISchurners are for the 80,000 point offer I previously mentioned. IF you live near Chase branches and feel comfortable applying in person it could make sense to wait it out. IF you're happy with that 80k offer and prefer to apply online then you're probably good to go on that now.

He can be an SPG member without having an SPG AMEX. He just signs up on the Starwood website for a membership, it's free. There is a stipulation that you can't buy points until you've been a Starwood member for 14 business days. But you can buy points for his account, and pay with your SPG AMEX for the 2x points (I did this last year for DH). I'm trying to find @Lain's post about there not being the 30K limit on point transfers (not purchases), but having a hard time finding it.

No one knows yet. Marriott will be putting hotels into new categories sometime in the next couple of months, and only then will we be able to know how many points a room is going to cost. You can visit members . marriott . com to see Marriott's plan for categories and how many points for each category. Will Dolphin be Cat 4 or Cat 5? Until Marriott releases that info, your guess is as good as mine.

ETA: If your plans are close to firm, and you have the points in your account to cover it, I would reserve the dates you want right now. You can always cancel if you change your mind, as long as you follow the cancelation policy.

So that's the big wildcard still - they didn't actually release a new award chart by property. I would say that in the new award chart, Swan & Dolphin should either be a NEW Cat 5 or NEW Cat 6 (but this is my wild guess). IF Cat 5 it would be 35k points a night (30k off-peak and 40k peak). IF Cat 6 it would be 50k points a night (40k off-peak and 60k peak). So Cat 5 is an improvement (except for during peak) and Cat 6 is worse in all cases. The 5th night free should still be in affect no matter what happens.

Does this make sense? If not - please tell me and I'll try to explain further. I know that this whole thing makes people's heads spin (mine included :))

Excellent! I did check and unfortunately I do not have a branch anywhere near me so online it is. I'm excited to get started!

MARRIOTT RELEASES SAMPLE OF 100 HOTELS SHOWING NEW CATEGORIES:
https://viewfromthewing.boardingare...-program-award-pricing-hotels-several-cities/

Marriott released this sample of 100 "top hotels" and their new categories.

Just looking at the 19 hotels in New York...
  • 9 decreased the # of points required :)
  • 5 stayed the same
  • 5 increased the # of points required
This is definitely a good sign and in line with what we heard the other day that more properties were going down than up.

Of course the big one to many of us is Swan and Dolphin. They are currently a "36,000 point" property (12k x 3) and there were 22 properties on the list at the current 36k level. Of those:
  • 16 moved to NEW Cat 5 decreasing by 1,000 points per night
  • 5 moved to NEW Cat 6 increasing by 14,000 points per night
  • 1 moved to NEW Cat 7 increasing by 24,000 points per night
So on the surface this is a good sign - 73% of these properties went to Cat 5 which would probably be our best case scenario for Swolphin. Here's my concern...if SPG looks at what they have in Swolphin (on-site, access to Disney buses, 60 day FP, etc.) they may lean towards increasing that category. I REALLY hope that isn't the case because at 50k per night that would be a rough proposition. I'm still optimistic that at least one of the 2 properties (and HOPEFULLY both) will get placed in Cat 5.

Hopefully this info helps somewhat although it isn't definitive whatsoever.

Dang, I think I’m going to have to stop pretending to be SO now. :rolleyes1
I do so bad at this. Called this weekend because I was trying to get DH's online account set up on the new CIP. He doesn't have any other Chase cards (YET!). Anyway the CSR kept saying Ma'am, I don't see you on the account so I can't help you. At that point I could not lie and say I am not a Ma'am this is my account!!! Unfortunately DH was at the store so he could not just say Talk to her! Going to do that today.

How long does it take for the referral bonus points to arrive? DH was approved last Monday and card arrived on Saturday. I was hoping to see the referral points by now. I don't want to call in and bug anyone if it is too early.

@disneymagicgirl I'll be watching what great ideas show up on your quest for tickets to Hawaii. We are in Columbus OH. I usually say it is a great airport since it is not too busy and great for SW flights. But getting to Hawaii, maybe not so much. Must have is first class lie flat for at least the flight back to the states. It is just the two of us so willing to blow tons of points on a great experience. I looked at Delta and United so far. I'll mostly have URs (right now 90 but should have 190+ by Oct when I book) so it will probably be United. I was checking out some blogs on how to get URs to Korean Air to Delta. But I was not able to find flights on Korean Air since they do not fly to Columbus. Anyone know a work around for that? What I don't want to do, but could as a last resort, is to fly to West coast, deplane, pick up luggage and then go through security again to get on another airline. I would rather just book the Columbus to Hawaii (with one stop) and someone else manages all the baggage work.

I am usually a great planner but this Hawaii thing seems daunting. Just have to tackle piece by piece.

A couple of quick DISchurner reminders:
  • If you want to join send a PM to @SouthFayetteFan and/or @Albort and we'll get you hooked up
  • Please check your links for Southwest and make sure they still work and the text is correct (40k points)
  • Please check your links for SPG and remove them - they likely don't work anymore
  • IF you use somebody's link don't forget to send them quick PM (either on reddit or the DIS) so they can thank you for it :)

Anybody here following the Free Dining thread? I'm not even doing a Disney trip that time of year (We are doing Sea World in the fall) but I just enjoy reading through it especially when it launches and everybody is so excited. It's crazy how they keep adding to the restrictions on that promo though!

It also is slightly sad to see all the people who are really desperate to get a discount to make their budget work for their trip. I'd love to just bring them all over here and tell them to earn some UR points to pay for part of their trip (or all of it). Alas, I think many of them would just think we are CRAZY haha.
I haven't been in the thread, but from what I've read from the rumor mill sites I'm not too interested. FD has been devalued so much since I used to take advantage of it. We would always stay at POFQ and get the regular plan free. Now, both Port Orleans are excluded, and all other moderates only qualify for the QS plan. Then, if you want to splurge and stay at a deluxe, all of the MK resorts but GF are excluded too. If you like to stay at value or moderate level and were already planning on a QS plan, it's a good deal. And if you were already planning on staying at GF and getting the table service plan, it's a good deal. Otherwise, I feel like you'll be sacrificing something (money or resort choice) to get free food.

When they ask for who they are speaking with I say my SO’s name. One guy kept calling me ma’am even though my SO’s name is a male name. The one guy kept asking me an large amount of security questions. Normally when I call for myself it’s a few this guy asked about 10 questions. I knew them all so he eventually talked to me.

Chase referrals post typically on Tuesday afternoons/evenings. When I referred SO it was three Tuesdays after he got approved. Chase will say 6-8 weeks, but it’s typically sooner.

Of course the hotel I'm staying at in NYC this December is going up in point valuation :sad2: I guess I'm good since I already booked though.

What @speedyfishy said! That's exactly what I did to get DH's CIP expedited. Just gave them his name and had to answer several security questions (not 10, but I know I had to provide his social). The agent kept calling me "ma'am" but never directly asked me about not actually being DH. DH and I both have blatantly obvious male and female names.

The other change too is requiring a park hopper. For people who normally wouldn't buy a park hopper that further erodes the savings. I think there is a group of people that can do the math and figure out that it truly is a good deal for them. I also think there are a bunch of people who end up spending more because of that promotion and don't realize it (and that's probably the Disney marketing goal, LOL).

Kind of random. Plastiq picked my preschool payment for review after I put it on a new card (DW’s SPG Biz) this weekend. Added DW’s card to my Plastiq account to take advantage of some FFDs. Been making the same payment on Visas and Amexes for months. Nothing to hide, and education is an allowed category for Amex so I sent in an invoice.

And that was quick. Payment approved.

WOW, that's a really bad deal... and I'm a big fan of getting parkhopper!

Didn't see the part about the PH. That's even worse!
