How far in advance can you book? Travel Agencies...

We've been many times, so we are trying some new places like Matsumoto and Kamikochi.

Are you going to the crow’s castle? We went to Matsumoto on a day trip from Tokyo in July 2014 and visited it. I enjoyed it but it was a bit hot and crowded.

I think we're going to commute in from Tokyo, because I don't want to change hotels a 3rd time and because I am staying super close to Tokyo Station as is. So since my hotel is not necessarily one that sells tickets, it's easier to just get them at the start of my trip from the DisneyStore. We're starting West and working our way East. We've been many times, so we are trying some new places like Matsumoto and Kamikochi. I've traveled extensively in Japan, but there are nearly always new places to visit. :)

You can call though, when I did it was a little weird because there was the person on the phone and instead of putting me on directly with someone conversant in English, I asked questions to someone in English, they then asked the same question in Japanese to the original person, that person then answered in Japanese to the translator and then the question was answered in English. It got particularly weird when I understood some of the Japanese or tried asking my question in broken Japanese because they refused to go off script and still went from me to person A to person B and then back to Person A and to me. lol
Lol that sounds kind of confusing. I think we will make that one of our top priorities in the morning after getting our first FP. We will go to the restaurant and try to get a reservation.

This will be our first trip to Japan. We don’t have set dates but want to do 4-5 days in Tokyo, 4-5 in Kyoto, and 4-5 at Disney.

You don't have to go first thing in the morning because the restaurants don't start accepting same-day reservations in person until 10 AM.

Online reservations for those not staying at Disney hotels open 30 days in advance. The service is only in Japanese, though you can probably muddle through with Google Translate.

If Google Translate doesn't work on images (I don't think it would but I don't have it installed so I can't check) - you want to be clicking the button underneath the gold banner for any restaurant you want to reserve. The other button with the blue + sign is for adding it to your checklist/wishlist for later.

In our case, we called from the USA. I had several questions about packages as well, which is why I remembered in my case the cost of the package was about the same as 2 nights in a "cheaper" room at the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel. I personally didn't have a hard time making the reservation for restaurants on-line. I don't remember it being too hard, but you can call 2 weeks before you arrive at TDR and just do it that way. I feel like International calls are not as expensive as they once were.

Yeap, we're going to the famous Crow's Castle and I would like to go to the Matsumoto City Art Museum to see the Kusama Yayoi exhibit. My daughter is only so into modern art, and I feel like a cheaper and smaller city art museum is a better bet than a big museum in Tokyo. If it goes well we might plan a future trip to Naoshima.

I've been to Himeji and Hikone but not Matsumoto.

Thanks for the tip about the button under the gold banner! That helps a lot. I'm just copy and pasting things into Google to try and figure them out. Usually my computer asks me if I want it translated, but for some reason it isn't popping up on their website.

I'm basically copy and pasting everything into Google because I can't understand anything on the dining website. I can guess which restaurant is which based on the pictures, but that is about as far as I get. After using Google translate I think I could definitely make reservations online.

If you're using Chrome, it can translate the whole page. :) I've used it for looking at menus at TDR and for trying to book reservations on other websites.

I have to admit, when I called it was probably more complicated than it would have been otherwise because I do know a tiny bit of Japanese. But Good luck! In my experience, reservations at TDR aren't as easy to get as in Disneyland, but nothing is as hard to get as the most popular places in WDW, if that makes sense?

Yep that makes sense! I was using chrome so I’m not sure what happened. I may have to just try again.
