Los Angeles Hotel Question

Hi there
My family and I are flying in to LAX and will spend one night in LA before heading to Disneyland. Our flight arrives around noon local time. We want to visit the Griffith Observatory, Chinese Theatre, Walk of Fame. We aren't going to the parks the day we arrive at DL so we aren't in a huge rush to get to Anaheim. Given location, would it make more sense to stay near LAX and Uber to the attractions we want to see, or stay near the attractions knowing it's a longer drive to Anaheim? or another suggestion? Trying to keep costs down and spending time in traffic to a minimum. Renting a car is not an option as my husband is not comfortable driving in LA (I am but he'd be freaking out as a passenger and I don't want to deal with that). Looking for a hotel with concierge and a pool but not crazy expensive.

Magic Castle is not really keeping costs to a minimum ;-) Nothing clean and safe in the vicinity is going to be cheap, I don’t know what time of year you are going. You might look in to something in Santa Monica, that’s sort of a good home base and you might enjoy walking on the Santa Monica Pier in the evening. All of the things you mentioned are somewhat near-ish each other but are the opposite direction to Anaheim from LAX. You might also look at staying next to Universals Studios, that’s a pretty safe area with lots to do and lots of dining since you won’t have a car.

Best Western Hollywood Plaza on Highland - close to Griffith Observatory, Chinese Theatre, Walk of Fame
Holiday Inn Express on Highland

With the things you want to do I'd say in Hollywood. You could get a nicer hotel cheap out by LAX but the expensive Uber rides will negate any savings. The places Stagetek suggested are nice. Depending on the time of year/day of week you can also get some great hotels cheap from Hotwire if you're willing to take the risk. I've stayed at the Loews in Hollywood and the Omni downtown that way for under $100/night.

We just got back from 4 days in LA/Hollywood and 5 days at Disneyland. We stayed at the Loews Hollywood Hotel and we did rent a car. My husband was very nervous about the driving before we went but it wasn't as bad as we had expected. (well sitting in traffic was but not the actual driving). We didn't use the car in the Hollywood area. We just walked everywhere. The Chinese theater, Dolby Theater, El Capitan, Walk of Fame, celebrity homes tour, etc. We did drive to Griffith Observatory and it took maybe a half hour. I can't remember but a very easy drive. We also drove to Burbank the following day to the Warner Brothers Studio tour before heading to Disneyland.

We stayed at Hollywood Orchid Suites. It's right behind the Loews (and near walk of fame, etc) and was reasonable with great size rooms.

I never did see where the Hollywood Orchid Suites was located. I couldn't see it anywhere from the Loews. I was looking for it as it was much cheaper and we had friends who wanted to stay there on another trip they are planning. I told her I would look around but didn't see it.

Hollywood Orchid Suites was right behind it. We used to walk up the alley way to Highland Ave and pass the Lowes (on google maps, the alley is listed as Johnny Grant way - which also connected to the mall).

Just looked on the map. I see why I never saw it. We always came out of the hotel onto Hollywood Blvd. We never went on Highland past the hotel. Would you recommend it?

We were happy there. The room was quite spacious (with a kitchen area too). We happened to have a little patio too by the pool, but just happened to be where our room was located. Breakfast was good (with lady running it super nice - almost family-like). Our kids enjoyed the pool too. We would return.
