Annual Pass Questions

Hi – I’m just starting interest in an annual pass and have questions. Please forgive me if these have been already asked or if they don’t make sense.

1. It’s me and my son – do we both have to get the annual pass or do just I have to get it and he can get regular tickets?

2. If I did purchase the annual pass the next time we go all I would have to do is purchase the room stay, correct?

Thank you for your help!

1. Your son can get regular tickets if he doesn't want/need an AP. If you are wondering about AP room discounts, only one person has to have an AP to qualify for a discount.

2. As long as you go back within a year (before your AP expires), you will not need to purchase tickets for yourself. You can book RO (or room + DDP if you use the DDP) and your son can buy tickets separately.

Hope this answers your questions :).

Not quite sure what you are asking. Only you would need an annual pass to get the discounts. Your son could have any kind of ticket. But his ticket would be subject to the 14 day from first use expiration. Your annual pass would be good for 1 year from activation.

You could get dining & merchandise discounts with your pass. Room discounts are not guaranteed, although they are often offered. Usually annual pass discounts are the last ones released & are sometimes limited.

You can book just a room. But annual pass holders can also book what is called a “ticketless” package. Meaning you can book a room & dining plan package without buying tickets. This does not apply to promotions like free dining however. Any promotion that has a ticket purchase requirement you would still need to comply with & purchase tickets.

Just an FYI, room discounts for the AP are not across the board. They're based on availability (AP discounts are last to drop) so I would not buy an AP just to hope you get a hotel discount. I would only buy one if you're going to be visiting Disney enough times in a year for it to be cheaper than purchasing regular tickets. Your annual pass would be good for a year from the day you activate it, so you don't need tickets, because that's what the pass is.

I agree with this 100%, so many people buy them for the discounts and they aren't always available, I've had one for over 5 years and go twice or three times a year and have used the AP discount for a room twice, I've found better rates with either the general discount or using the gen. discount with an Orbitz discount. Make sure if you buy your son's tickets, you look at the discount places and be aware your AP is a park hopper so if you are going to want to hop, make sure you get him hoppers as well.

Yes, you both have to have separate passes (they will have your photos) and nothing much is included except some retail and restaurant discounts (from 10% up depending on which on pass you bought). You just have your room and meals to pay for.
