Way-too-early HM Question

Our wedding isn't until November of 2019. But we can't help but start thinking ahead to our Disney honeymoon! My question is if we wanted to spend 8-10 days, would we be losing a ton of "disney magic" if we stayed at a value resort? I'd like to go all inclusive with a dining plan and it seems the resort is the best place to cut costs. Any input is appreciated!

In my opinion, no you won’t!! There are a lot of cool things about the Value resorts that you still find no where else but on Disney property. I personally would recommend a moderate, just mostly for the room size and amenities, but values are fine too. You could also do 1-2 days at a Deluxe and the rest at a value/mod, so that way you can end your honeymoon on a super high note and know what it’s like at the deluxe resorts too. If you go that route though I would def do it at the end so it doesnt feel like so much of a downgrade moving over to the mod/value!

I think Disney Magic is what you make of it. Meaning you have the control to make your honeymoon magical. My point being a Value resort can be just as magical as a Deluxe. Otherwise, people wouldn't stay here.

I'd choose a resort that had a recent rehab ( I know Pop was this year and I think one of two of the All Stars are on deck for refurbs this year ). Just do your homework on the resorts so you're not disappointed.

Enjoy your planning!

Regardless if it is your honeymoon or not, how much time do you plan to spend at the resort? If you only need a place to sleep, value is definitely a good option to cut costs. If you plan to spend a lot of time in the room, a bigger room at a moderate or deluxe might sound better. Also think about the pool, table service restaurants, etc.

And I am sure when you mention 'honeymoon' on your reservation, each resort would sprinkle some magic around the room.

We're going for our honeymoon in early 2020. We are likely going to stay at a Value resort for a few reasons:

1) Cost - we would rather spend the extra money on other experiences to make our trip special, things like dinner at V&A's, a monorail pub crawl, a spa afternoon or high tea.
2) We don't spend much time in the room - we sleep there, and get up and get ready in the morning. That's it.
3) We can have a longer honeymoon without costing more by staying in a value vs moderate. It is the difference between a 6 day and a 10 day honeymoon.
4) We don't tend to have 'resort' days. The extra amenities that you get at the moderates and deluxe resorts don't matter to us.
5) I've stayed at moderates before, as well as at the Values. While the moderates had beautiful theming, I just didn't find there was enough value to justify the additional costs for me.
6) I get to go to Disney - I don't care where I stay!!!

If you spend the money on things that would still make the trip extra special, I think it’s fine! Get the deluxe dining plan, go to the spa, do a special tour, etc! I do think it would be special to stay at a Deluxe for your last night if you are able to! We stayed at the GF for our last night and it was a nice way to end the trip.

I would not do a value - amenities are scarce. no sit down restaurant, pools adequate and screaming with kids. Plus high school bands, cheerleaders , etc all go there. Make sure there are no type conventions when you go. rooms are just ok. My daughter was there with her high school and I was so unimpressed. She had ground floor room which walked out to concrete and truthfully no different than a Days Inn. If your on a budget spend your first few days in value them move to moderate. For me ambience is what makes me happy. Just my opinion though. Many many people on these boards would not go anywhere else and that's great. It really depends on what you want to spend your $$$ on

Not too early at all !! We started planning months ago... Our HM starts July 6 to July 27, since we chose a studio @ BCV we are able to stay 21 days.. no need for a huge room, make teh magic on tours, dinners, and exploring together.. You only need a place to sleep and change. ( special wink wink HM time)

I'm getting married Oct. 2020 and I'm already planning our Disneymoon!! So it's never too early! (Unless you aren't even dating anyone yet, then maybe just plan quietly in your head.)
We got engaged on our vacation to DL last September so we're recreating that for our honeymoon, just the DW version. This thread is something I needed right now. Thank you! We're leaning towards Art of Animation because I like the style. And like so many have said, since we aren't there for the room, it doesn't matter so much what room it is. I just want to be on the property and close to the magic. Unless the amenities matter, like the spa or even the location, I don't think a value resort would even make a mark in your memory. You're going to remember that you honeymooned at one of the greatest places on Earth. Not that you didn't stay in the Grand Floridian.
Good luck! And I hope you'll post more after the fact with anything you liked or didn't and any tips or just great stories!

Absolutely not.
Every Disney resort has bits to it that make it magical for you. Definitely look up the resorts prior to choosing one and take a look at all of the amenities. If you're not that dead set on spending a lot of time at the resort then you're not losing out on anything. Also note that you can always resort hop buy taking a bus, minivan, or the monorail for no cost (if you park at a resort with your own vehicle though you will be charged). You dont have to be staying a resort in order to enjoy their amenities and you're welcome to visit as many as you like.

Keep in mind that WDW is HUGE so no matter what you do you're always going to be in Disney experiencing some sort of magic everywhere. Whether you choose to spend your time in the parks or visiting resorts it's carefully placed for a magical experience no matter what. BUT IF you're absolute on a Disney Honeymoon the Grand Floridian is very elegant and beautiful although it is the most expensive out of all the resorts.

My best advice is determine what you want from Disney and go from there. If it's the rides then the room doesnt matter because you'll be out all day.

Hope this helps.
And also, congratulations. :)

I agree with the other posters, value resorts can be magical too! Easily my greatest issue with them, was the large sprawling area. We do not spend much time at the resorts themselves, so our last trip we stayed at a value thinking to save money and make our trip longer, as we use the resort mostly for sleeping. However our rooms were close to the back, we do full days at the parks and on return home the long walk to the rooms we found so inconvenient. We never went to refill our refillable glasses we got with the meal plan because it was just too out of the way, our feet too sore, limbs needed rest. I would suggest requesting rooms near the main entrance, as it is your honeymoon and the little time you do spend at resort should be just as enjoyable as the days at the parks, stress and hassle free!

Okay, if thinking about a November 2019 honeymoon is early, then I'm just being outright insane with thinking about mine in February 2022 ...
(You're not early ;) )

Just to echo the others, it's definitely not too early to start planning for November.....and if you are able to book soon, you definitely should.

We stayed at Pop Century for a few days before our wedding and we loved it! Room was comfy and cute, outside theming was fun, and the food court food was good! This was prior to AoA being built, but it would have been fun to walk the bridge over to AoA.
