Phone Charger Kiosks

I just found that Disney sells a portable phone charging kit at kiosks around the parks for $30. According to the page, you buy the kit, charge your phone, and when the charger runs out of juice, you can take it back to a kiosk and swap for a fully charged one.

Has anyone used this? It seems the price is right - as cheap or cheaper than most external batteries. How heavy is the unit? Any drawbacks?

The FuelRods that Disney sells aren't worth it if you factor in the price for the capacity. They reportedly have a capacity of 1000mah, which is super low. It might charge my Galaxy S8 about 30%.

For the same $30, I bought this Anker charger that charges my phone fully twice with juice left over for a partial charge. You can get some with more or less capacity for a reasonable price.

I plug it in each night after I've used it and I've never run it out at the parks. Ir is about the size of a deck of cards and weighs about as much as a mobile phone. It fits fine in my small bag.

I guess the downside is that there isn't the convenience of trading it for a fully charged one, but I don't have to stop at kiosks 10 times for the equivalent charge capacity, either.

I think that both larger portable batteries like the ones made by Anker, and the FuelRods have their uses in the parks. The larger batteries hold a lot more power. That is true, but you also have to make sure that you recharge them overnight. The FuelRods don't give more then about 1 charge, but the advanage of being able to swap them out when empty I've found to be very handy.

I bought a portable charger at Best Buy for $20 and take it on all of our trips. It capacity is larger the fuel rod. Its mine to keep and easy to charge at night when I charge my phone.

Good to know. I just ordered one on Prime Day to use in the parks.

we purchased our fuel rods ahead of time (for $20 each.) we swapped them out every morning in the resort lobby and a few times at the parks. I would recommend. We both have the iphone 8+ and it charged them both decently. We also use them at home, you can charge them just like any other portable charger.

My son uses the fuel rods every trip. They are about the size of a portable cigerette charger that you plug into your car, easily fit even in a woman's shorts pocket. The charge lasted him all day on his Samsung. He would just switch the charger out at some point during the day when we were near a kiosk. He loves them. He used to carry around a bigger one but the fuel rods are so small they are just more convenient. If he could just remember where he puts them when he gets home and doesn't have to buy a new one every trip that would be great. Even buying a new one, $30 for a week is good for him. I don't usually have to charge my phone while in the parks, I charge it at night in the room and it easily lasts all day but one night my charger came out of the wall at the resort, thus no charge. I was down to about a 20% charge on my phone and used his fuel rod that was from the day before. It had enough juice left in it to fully charge my google pixel, took about 2 hours. We swapped it out after that so not sure how much charge it had left, he had used it the day before and didn't put it on a charger that night.

Can anyone explain how this works?
You get your first charger, then what do you do to exchange it?
Thanks

I bought mine directly from their website for $25 ($20 for unit + $5 shipping) because my airport doesn't have a kiosk. So if you are interested in using one at Disney, see if you can get it at your airport or order it on-line.

Check out their website at www.fuel-rod.com. Most of you r questions can be answered there.

I've used it at the parks with no problems. I use the MDE app a lot in the parks so it I use about a fuel-rod a day. I like the convenience of being able to trade it in. I've only had a problem with one kiosk at EPCOT (in the gift shop to the right of the main entrance). It wouldn't dispense my replacement rod. I just called the number listed on the kiosk and they remotely forced it to dispense a fuel rod.

I bought one at the Boardwalk in june. I loved it. it would charge my Galaxy Note 8 within 2 hours. my phone would last until early afternoon with heavy usage and then the fuel rod made it last for rest of the day. It really was convenient and now with 10 of us going next week to the Boardwalk i know we will be swapping that out a few times a day and the Boardwalk has the kiosk in lobby too.
great small charge tp carry around at home too so i'm thinking of getting another for the family.
Anyone know where the kiosk is at MCO?

I bought a Fuel Rod three years ago. Still swapping it and it's been many places. Can't beat the size and swappability.

Love our Fuel Rods as well. Yes they dont have a huge amount of charging power but they can charge my Iphone 7+ up to about 90%, easy to swap out and they are super light. I hate having to carry a bag or stuff heavy things in my pockets when Im at the parks.

I recommend the Anker products bc they have more capacity. There are a few that are small/light; joust check Amazon.
