We did a bit of both, I guess. Thought we would do a later fall trip so that GE would possibly be open, then got caught up in the early Free Dining offer, so moved the planned trip up. All that does is give us an excuse to go again for Marathon week. What a shame.

For me it's the level of excitement of being the opening day. Everyone going or at least the vast majority of people will be super fans, it's an electric feeling of community, of experiencing it together for the first time. It's also why I enjoy going to premieres of movies like marvel, star wars or harry potter, there's no feeling like it. I do understand that fandom comes in many levels

You live locally, so I can see what your talking about.

But for planning a major vacation it just seems way easier to plan for a month after it's open. I do get what your talking about with movie premieres. Open night at a Star Wars or Avengers movie is definately a different mood in the theater.

We are going this summer to avoid the rush and will probably not go again until 2022.

I've only been once to one Marvel premiere and I sat next to a super fan and OMG. I'm not into sitting in a theatre with people whooping it up at scenes. I like to be able to hear the next line in a movie... lol.

I’m from the UK and will be at DL for the opening. We are currently AP holders at DL and have been once before. We will also hopefully be at WDW’s GE opening. I want to be there really badly for the opening day so I’m making it happen. I understand you are saying it may be easier to plan but I would regret not being there. I don’t want to have avoid all Disney related tweets, YouTube videos, coming on here etc because I wouldn’t want it ruined for myself.

We may also pay for the previews if there are any and plan our whole trip around that. Don’t get me wrong, it is stressing me out a little bit that we don’t have a date as the flight costs are going up and up but it isn’t putting me off. There is always the kool aid drinkers out there that will be there if they want to be :)

*We're planning an extra trip late 2019 or early 2020 and can't wait!

On our 2016 trip (my daughter celebrated her 10th birthday) we were in DHS and saw the signs that Toy story land and Star Wars land (I don't think it was Str Wars Galaxy's edge yet). Both of those are things my son LOVES. So while he watched his sister hoola hoop with the rest of the birthday kids, I asked him if he wanted to go back for his 10th birthday to see both of those. And man the smile on his face :lovestruc:lovestruc

Thankfully the timing might work out for us. Obviously TSL is open. His birthday is December 15th, and we are there from the 14th-21st. So hopefully SWGE is up and running too. I am desperate to get him on at least one ride. I am above nothing. I'm considering booking the Star Wars tour in hopes that they add the new things to it. Also considering After Hours tickets. My last resort will probably be bringing his birth certificate and begging a cast member for some Pixie Dust. Just the kid and one parent. Help me make his birthday amazing :cake:

April 2020. The only way I can justify the trip is to merge it with a runDisney race, and, how about that, next year is the 5th anniversary of the WDW Star Wars half marathon :darth:

Personal decision that may change, but at this point, we're delaying renewing our AP's until the 50th. We want to have many new experiences and by then there should be a good offering.

I have trips booked in June and September 2019. Called to book a week in April 2020 at Pop. After Easter but before my AP expires.

I needed an excuse to renew my AP so I booked a Feb 2020 trip at BR over the weekend. My plan when FP reservations are up is to attempt to book SWL stuff at the end of trip and be thankful if I get any time, AM or PM. In the meantime, I'll be replaying Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We are adding a trip because my son has become OBSESSED with SW since his 5th birthday trip to WDW in Dec. Combined with my daughter getting older and wanted to go one last time before college, but her school and summer breaks being full of stuff already...next Feb it is. 2020. I honestly didn't think we would go back until he was older and SW was a distant memory lol

We've been planning August 2020 since we went December 2017, and knew GE was opening in 2019. We figure a year after opening might let the crazy die down a tiny bit, but we still don't want to wait too long to go!

I think I resolved to add a day to have longer to mingle with whatever crowd there will or wont be. Probably staying offsite that one night with single park ticket if I don't splurge for park hopper.

Since it's come up in several threads with people coming at it from different angles, I'm curious what the Disboards consensus is. Are people looking to go as soon as possible or are people running from the chaos.

HS, not my thing. I do enjoy SW though. I might go on our next trip. Won't be for another 3 or 4 years, but I'm ok with that.

My wife and I have plans to go out to DL in October 2019. We will try to get to Galaxy's Edge there before trying to get in line here at the Florida Welcome Center!!! We always do the two main festivals, F&G and F&W and we won't change that just because of Galaxy's Edge here.

We are doing Family trip in April after doing summer trips last 7 years which should be nice change. Huge Star Wars fan so currently looking to make another trip with wife to celebrate 20th wedding anniversary end of Sept if we can swing it.

We're not changing plans, but our plan was to go this summer and next summer for Star Wars (I work in a school). If we were able to take trips at other times of the year (we were previously fans of fall), I would have avoided a fall trip this year. We are huge Star Wars fans but I just don't want to chance it being totally chaotic. I have no doubt it will be busy for years to come but I want no part of that initial craziness.

I planned Labor Day week because of low-ish projected crowds and free dining. I wanted to avoid the SWGE crowds for now, next trip might be 2021.
I never dreamed they would announce an August opening date (a week after I scored the most wonderful dining schedule). I went through a full cycle of the stages of grief, and debated moving the trip up by a week and a half. After reading up, weighing pros & cons, and tweaking my plans, I decided to keep it as is.

I still get occasional waves on anxiety over it, but I'm trying to remain calm. I'm a seasoned Disney vet, so I need to just trust my strategies.

I voted "delaying normal/planned trip to go after". No 2019 trip for us. I've always been planning a 2020 trip, but now it's just figuring out WHEN we'll go.

We’re planning on March 2020. We really like that last week before spring break. Hopefully it’s calmer!
