Using FP+ on Mickey meet 'n greet in MK?

Hi, does it make sense to use a FP+ on a meet and greet with Mickey in the Magic Kingdom? He has one in a theater on Main Street USA. I have a 6 year old who would love to meet him. If we go before 10 am during a slightly off period (late Sept/early October.), it might not be necessary?

Yes. We've done it twice and both times were more than worth it. First time it was the talking mickey, this time it was Mickey and Minnie in their birthday getup. The line is boring. We used FP for both visits and it was perfect. The line was no less than 45 minutes our whole trip.

We always get one for Mickey - his lines are really long all day and I have never seen a rolling FP for him. We like to take a rest break after lunch and usually schedule a 12:30ish FP for Mickey so we can do it on our way out.

If you can't get one for him, we've had luck stopping in immediately after the afternoon parade, or during the parade.

We were able to get day of fast passes for Mickey during the week after Easter. Our daughter wanted to go again so I ended up picking another one up

This year that will not be true. Star Wars opens Aug 29th so Disney is going to be super busy! It's never a waste to FP a Mickey greet.

I was able to get day of FP+'s for every meet and greet that offered them except Town Hall Mickey on our spring break trip. I have booked a town hall Mickey FP+ this time. It kills me to "waste" a book-ahead FP+ on this, but those lines never dropped below 40 mins when we were there so we didn't meet that Mickey (and the kids have to meet every Mickey!!).

If it's important, I'd get a FP+. I have them for our upcoming trip bc it's the only thing my 2.5 year old has really asked for and it's the first thing we're doing when we get to the park in the afternoon. GL!

I recommend it. When we were there a week ago, people were rope dropping it, the line built very quickly, and was around 40 minutes at park opening on both days we visited and remained at that wait for almost the whole day. When I checked the app around noon on the second day we visited, the earliest FP I could get was at 8 PM. It's a very popular meet right now because they are meeting together and in their birthday celebration outfits.

Hoping the crowds are more limited to Disney Studios due to Star Wars, rather than all of the parks. That's what we experienced last year with the opening of Toy Story Land!

I'm wishing you all the best on your visit! But SWGE is going to be NOTHING like Toy Story Land. The fan following behind Star Wars is on a level that even at my age, I often have to sit and really run it through my mind. The Studios IS going to reach capacity and those fans Disney and/or Star Wars will want someplace else to go until they can get back into HS. People are waiting to see what happens at Disney Land in 4 days...but that's not even on the same level as Disney World. You can fit the Land inside the World...how many times?? I just Googled it.....53 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :faint: And my date is wrong. I'm mixing Disney Land and Disney World. SWGE in the World opens on Aug 29th.

Remember: now that rope drop is at the hub, the line for Mickey starts before rope drop. Your best bets are:
- fast passes (that’s what we do)
- go during parade or fireworks (if they aren’t your thing this is a great option)
- rely on random luck of a shorter line
- or be content with the wait

If you are going to other parks, I would suggest getting the Mickey fastpass at Animal Kingdom or Epcot instead. There are just too many good rides for small children in Magic Kingdom for me to want to spend a FP on Mickey when he is available in all four parks.

Last year we got there at rope drop and went right to Mickey (it was talking Mickey then) bc he's right at the entrance- we waited 20ish minutes. This year (in April) we didn't get a FP or rope drop him and it was impossible the whole week-45+ minutes, which to us is not worth it for a character meet since we do lots of character meals! We did make a FP at AK though so we met him and Minnie there.

I just moved this to our FP list! With it being both Mickey and Minnie, in their limited birthday outfits, I’m thinking this will be more popular during our summer visit than typical!

When you have kids using FP for characters is NEVER a waste of a FP.
The lines can be very long and they typically are boring. We always FP any characters we aren’t meeting at character meals.

Depends on your kids. If they are young and into Mickey, but not into dark rides like Pooh or Peter Pan (like my DD), then it's worth spending FP+ on Mickey.

Just to reiterate as I jump back into this thread. You can check historical wait times for rides/attractions. If they are longer than what you want to wait for... use a FP.

I agree that the FP is worth it, but ONLY IF you're dead set on meeting him in MK. We had a FP to see him on our trip in early May. When our time came around, it had been absolutely downpouring for close to an hour, and people were leaving the park in droves. But the line for Mickey was still 45+ minutes standby.

But if you don't care where you meet Mickey, there are plenty of other options to help you save the FP for a ride. My kids met him at Chef Mickeys and Garden Grill meals, and randomly in AK about 20 minutes after park open when we were walking by and the CM told us there was literally no wait. The only benefit to the MK meet right now is that he and Minnie are in their birthday outfits. Personally, I think their safari photos with Mickey and Minnie at AK turned out cuter, and the interaction at both character meals was better and more fun than the MK Mickey.
