What is the craziest DCL policy you've encountered?

I’m pretty sure all the major cruise lines have a drinking age of 18 when sailings don’t touch US or UAE waters. The exception being carnival - I think they have an age of 21 wherever they sail (at least it used to be unless it’s changed)

    Teens of different ages

Most of the time the teens are all together but will be spilt into ages when cruises are super busy for some activities - like teen only flow rider or the dance parties at the very end of the night.

    Closest DCL Competitors

It’s not necessarily down to the cruise line. The actual ships can vary a lot within cruise lines. Many ships out there do a better job and have a bigger variety of family activities and experiences than Disney.

Royal Caribbean v. Disney - Newbie

As someone who was youth staff on Disney and then royal - I totally agree. Much more enjoyed the job on royal (Disney we just stood guard in specific places). Royal let me get to know the kids and their families, and run the sessions and not get mad when we adapted it more to their...

Small private pool in front of Magic

And it can be so windy, even when docked. Its better post dry dock with a little more shelter. But still always felt on show. But a massive perk having the area on certain itineraries/ports: Alaska/Panama/New York.

Small private pool in front of Magic

This is so funny me and my roommate from my magic days were talking about this pool yesterday. Neither of us ever went in there because it was empty, or really odd itineraries. Here’s a couple of pictures: empty in the Caribbean, but ready to go in in freezing Northern Europe 😂 Also, would...

    No more kids club reservations?

exactly. And if they’re not going to be separated for the other 90% of their time on the cruise, what’s the point for the hour and a half they’re in the club? They’ll leave the club and go join all those they’ve been kept away from at or the buffet or the pool… they’ll be more likely to be...

Nursery Opening on Future Cruises ?

when I worked at DCL our manager explained to us that it is part USPH as there are no designated changing facilities within the clubs. Kids needing changing would have to be taken to the nursery or the family bathroom. but the main reason is because it would lower the ratio allowed (due to...

Just off the Magic - a few thoughts on cost.

right! Disney upsell but are far more sneaky. From flashing ice cubes/straws/cups strategically placed near you table for extra $, bubbles wands at deck parties, want your small human to look like a princess that’s an extra $500, placing popcorn/candy/cans of soda outside the shows/movies, the...

Are you nervous about cruising now due to war in Ukraine?

I’m most concerned for the Ukrainian (and Russian) crew members I’ve worked with over the years. Seeing their posts on social media is heart breaking. (Even though DCL don’t have that many compared to other lines.) Cruises and their multimillion dollar companies will be fine.

SHOCKED at how great level of service and food were above Royal C!!!

After working the same position for both companies, Royal we’re far superior to work for, which means I would probably never pay the extra to sail with Disney. We did have one of the uk staycation cruises booked, but we cancelled because it just didn’t seem worth the price tag, there’s so much...

    Gifts for the crew?

As an ex crew member - snacks! Especially at the moment. Yes they have the crew store, but it’s so limited an over priced. the ‘experts’ always say no to snacks, but those of us who have lived with the crew mess for meals, would never say no to snacks. If they don’t like it they’ll swap it...

Will guest experience suffer on the first sailings?

Didn't say they wouldn't and don't doubt it. But as an ex crew member on 2 lines, I've done dry docks, and taken brand new ships out - so just being realistic too 👍

Will guest experience suffer on the first sailings?

I will add though, me, my cousins and their kids were booked on a UK staycation cruise this summer and we recently cancelled. Not really anything to do with covid rules as such, we're not offended by masks and they won't make or break any experience for us, and it wouldn't bother us if we were...

Will guest experience suffer on the first sailings?

Even without new rules and regs, there's the issues of things like, CM not working with guest for over a year and new protocols for themselves that they're getting used to, and equipment not being used to the same extent in over a year. Teams put together who have never worked together. It...

    New Muster Drill Experiences

I was on Symphony near the end of 2019 (so pre pandemic) and we were already trailing the e-muster, so I think it would have become a thing (at least for royal and celebrity) even without the pandemic. This also meant that there were already things in place that they know works, now they have...

2 Kids text positive on Royal- Family Disembarked-Cruise Continues

They were tested as they have to be routinely tested. People might not agree with it, but I think that's one of the agreements to be allowed to sail again.

When working for DCL, when exactly are you working?

Yes, if you have time off as long as you don't have IMP (in port manning, which seems to be a DCL thing, which basically means you have to stay onboard in case of an emergency and it works out about 1 every 4 or 5 ports, but there's a whole rota for that) or there's drill, but you can get off...
