We did this last trip and it was not crowded at all. Plus you are surrounded by the fireworks, short ones go off by the castle and the big high ones go off toward Tom Sawyer island. As a bonus the wait for 7dmt was only around 30 minutes (park closure was at 8 at same time as fireworks.)

I walked in at 8.30 last night and got almost a front row seat, but crowds were pretty low at the parks overall.

Thanks for updates. We were able to have a comfortable dinner at polynesian instead of worrying about missing out. Bummer about hard line on time. Not thrilled with the idea of fighting my way through fireworks crowd to get in.
