    Marathon Weekend 2024

This was my favorite part of marathon training, bar-none.

That was utterly terrifying and I regret having joined you (comments welcome)

Congrats on Berlin! I entered but didn't get in. Looks like an awesome race!

Running Renaissance: Road to Paris 2024

Can I recommend Topo? I had to switch from Saucony when their toe boxes got way too narrow. Topo has small drops (5-6mm, some I think are zero) and a wide range of cushioning. The Cyclone 2 looks great (haven't tried it yet). I did pick up the Atmos, which is apparently the more cushioned...

Yep, I didn't enter but this makes sense to me. I think it's an anniversary year PLUS the world record was broken there this year, so next year was gonna be tough. I entered Berlin, which is usually the easiest international major, but didn't get in. Their email said they also had a record...

This is my training journal. I'm bad at titles. (Comments welcome!)

Oh hey I haven't updated this in quite a while. There's been a lot going on - I recently started a new job - and I've been taking time to reflect post-marathon about what comes next. I've still been running, but everything has been a slog. I did start a 5k-specific training plan for Dopey...

Thank you for asking! Better. No sling needed. Still painful, but latest x-rays as of Monday showed bone healing. Probably another 6ish weeks until it's fully healed.

November Running: Total Mileage: 84.2mi Total Time: 13h 21min Recovery post-MCM meant no running one week and very light running the next two, but the build to the Dopey 5k began this week.

You must be swift as the coursing river (as long as it's the Lazy River) - comments welcome

I think sometimes it's possible to simply step wrong and tweak something? Or maybe step wrong a few times, but you've done it so much it doesn't feel weird at all and the cumulative load causes an injury? It's so hard to say. You can do everything right, as you've done, and it still happens...

Listen, much like me and my broken elbow, one does not need a head to run a marathon. Only legs.

I did 4 sessions of the soft wave treatment for my plantar fasciitis a few years ago and yeah, that thing hurts. I do think it helped a little. The tough part was insurance doesn't cover the cost (or at least didn't at the time) and it was quite expensive here in DC. Good luck!

Both the regular and Beta gels are isotonic, yes. Not sure about the chews though, never tried those. The Beta gels are also quite expensive, but they have more carbs compared to Maurten (40g vs 25g) and they're flavored! The consistency of the regular is kinda like snot, though. You're welcome...

Bummer! Hope it feels better soon. Here's the upside- you're tapering and under 2 weeks away from race day. Don't push it. Sit out and rest the entire time between now and the race if you need (despite the fact this will drive you batty). Rest that Achilles! My rule of thumb for injuries is...

November 6 - November 12 Total mileage: 14.0mi Total time: 2h 16min This week was all about marathon recovery and easing back into things after taking an entire week off. Because my elbow is still fractured, I haven't been cleared to resume strength training yet. Hopefully in a few weeks...

    The Running Thread—2023

Yep! I'm about 50/50 if I sleep well after a long run or not. It doesn't matter when I do the run during the day. I believe this is from overtraining, because any single long run is inherently overtraining. I also do get restless leg syndrome sometimes on those nights. I have no strategies...
