Day 17 – October 2nd – T-Rex
By the time we walked up to T-rex for our 6pm reservation, it was packed! The line to ask for a table was already 20 families deep and there were a lot of people waiting!!!! Thankfully, with an ADR in hand, we walked up to the desk and were seated immediately (I assume mostly due to our small party size, which definitely gets you sat quicker at a lot of places).
We were seated right by the triceratops:
I didn’t grab a photo, but we all had Blue Raspberry Icees as our drink, and we pretty much ordered them as soon as we sat down (service here in the past has been VEERY slow, so I wanted a bit of a headstart!). They can be included on the dining plan if you just ask for it not to be in a specialty cup. $4.99
The chef here was SOOOOO accommodating. He basically came out and asked Peta what she felt like, then tailored things to suit.
For her appetiser, he brought out a full size salad:

Omnivore's Delight - Iceberg, romaine and baby greens with goat cheese, strawberries, dried cranberries, red onion and caramelized pecans. Tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Add Grilled Chicken $2.00 additional; $16.99
It was very tasty! The strawberries and pecans added a lovely sweetness, and Trent and I helped Peta get through some of this!
Trent and I shared appetisers:

Dual Dip - Our phenomenal combination of shrimp and artichoke dip and Chile Con Queso dip served with tortilla chips $11.99
This was tasty and the dips were piping hot – in fact, I burnt the tip of my tongue with the first bite…..oops ☹ the Queso was a bit flavourless but we really enjoyed the shrimp and artichoke dip – it was nice and chunky, with lots of flavour!

Chicken Flatbread - Warm flatbread topped with cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan and goat cheese, caramelized onions, drizzled with a balsamic glaze $11.99
This was really tasty! The base was nice and light and the glaze added a nice sweetness. The goats cheese on it was delicious!
As if those serves weren’t bit enough, our mains were to follow. These took a while to come out:

Prehistoric Pasta - sauteed zucchini, yellow squash, sun-dried and Roma tomatoes tossed with linguine, arugula, fresh mozzarella cheese and basil oil. Add shrimp or chicken for $3.00 additional; $19.99
Peta looked pretty happy with this when it arrived. She did say the actual flavour was a bit lacking, but it did have nice fresh ingredients, and she was impressed by the quality of the GF pasta.
Trent ordered the special:

Lemon Chicken – Served with Pasta (seasonal special) $24.99
He ate this really quickly, and said it was juicy and flavourful – nice and tart and acidic, and it went well with the pasta.
I also went with a pasta dish:

Mushroom Ravioli - Walk on the wild side with our massive mushroom ravioli simmered in a rich lobster cream sauce with Roma tomatoes and fresh spinach $19.99
This was nice and creamy and the mushroom flavour was intense and delicious – I was really surprised! It reminded me of the mushroom soup at artist’s point. A surprising star of the meal!!!
Although the massive portions hadn’t left much room, dessert followed soon after. Trent and I both felt like:

Cosmic Key Lime Pie - freshly baked Key Lime pie in a graham cracker crust, served with raspberry sauce and creamy whipped topping $7.99
It was just ok, more creamy flavour than actual lime, and neither of us finished ours.
Peta didn’t really have any choice, so she got:

Sorbet Sampler - Mango and raspberry sorbet topped with raspberry sauce and mango puree and served with a chocolate covered wafer $6.99
I ate the wafer as they had seemingly forgotten to leave it off to keep it GF. Peta said the sorbet was actually very nice, and was a nice fresh way to end the meal.
And so, the score card:
Food: 3/5 – A few stars, but mostly just average food here
Service: 3/5 – This place is huge, and the service speed really suffers as a result
Experience: 4/5 – This is what T-rex is all about! A point deducted because the loud, bright environment isn’t for everyone and can get a bit much by the end of the meal – especially after multiple meteor showers.
