Age requirement for entering bars?

On the RC website, the description for some bars is "Age Restriction: 21+" while the description for other bars is "To consume alcohol, you must be 21+" On DCL, under age cruisers may enter bars until a certain hour of the night. What is the rule on RC?

I’ve only been on three cruises, but I highly doubt anyone would care if someone under 21 was in a bar. Is there a particular bar that reads over 21?

If I recall, there was only one late-night venue that had an age restriction the last time we cruised RCL - Vibe - which was a bar designed for drinking and dancing to very loud music.

Beyond that, every time we cruised RCL our kids were always welcomed in any bar we sat in (though they should not sit 'AT' the bar...those seats should be reserved for 21+ who are drinking...the family can sit at any of the seating groups with lower tables without question.)

AFAIK only the bar that has an age restriction is the dance club (if there is one onboard).

Casino is basically like a Vegas casino. Anyone can walk through the gaming area. But only 21 and older can play.

Ships casinos are 18 and older to play. Different from Vegas because drinks are not complimentary while gaming.

Fair points. Guess I've been way over the gambling age limit for a while now so I've never thought about that. Didn't mean to infer that the drinks were free (it's a cruise after all) but my (at the time) 1yo daughter never had an issue walking through the slot machines so I was thinking more along those lines.

The ONLY reason I know is because my son turned 18 right before a cruise and we joked the whole time about moving from the "kiddie arcade" to the Big League Arcade!!! :P I thinks he secretly misses the ducks though! :donald:

My 18 year old DD was sad no one checked their IDs in the casino. It would’ve been the first time for her.

Definitely 18 to gamble in the casino...my daughter did just that without issue.

What bugs me is RCCL charging the "drinking" age when my DD18 is not old enough to drink on board the ship !

For example, we are signed up for the Bottemless Brunch, drinking bottemless mimosas, yet, they charge the alcohol prices for ages 12+
I called RCCL and specifically asked what the two different price points were, both the customer service rep and her supervisor said, the only reason for the different prices, is only for the alcohol.........then how can you legally charge me alcohol prices for an underage drinker ???

TBH it sounds like the CSR and her super don't know what they're talking about. If it is set up as they say, then I think you're right, and it's not entirely above board. Which is why I think they don't understand the "why" of the pricing.

Realistically speaking they're probably pricing this like a standard buffet might - one price for Age X and under, another price for everyone else, since (in theory) teens and adults eat more than kids (I say in theory because my niece is an eating machine). The fact that sparkling wine is available to those of drinking age (in the US) is meant to be a bonus, and if we're being honest, sucks for anyone aged 13-20.

On some of the ships they will have RCI employees scanning sea pass cards at the entrance to the venue to check the age. For example...Blaze on Allure, etc

It's essentially a nightclub
