Booking next cruise while on board

We are sailing on Oasis this July in Europe (yay!), and we were thinking of booking another on board for June '20, depending in the incentives. Anyone do this? We would book one ocean view or balcony room and one inside or possibly ocean view for the kids. Here are my questions:

1) are the deposits always non-refundable?

2) do they offer on board credit for the cruise you are on AND on board credit for the one you are booking, or is it either or

3) any tips on the way to go about procuring the best deal possible?

We booked a refundable cruise while on a cruise. The cruise was only a 4 day and so the OBC was quite small (and not sure if booking refundable made it even smaller). But the good thing is that this OBC stays even if you re-price your cruise.

The OBC is only for the cruise you are booking.

Maybe others have been able to make a better deal, but pretty sure that the prices are set (and same as if you booked at home aside from the OBC).
