Can you share a place you couldnt wait to eat but was a huge letdown

Another thing to keep in mind, strange as this may sound, is that a lot of people love certain Disney restaurants despite them having mediocre food at best. They go for the experience. Character meals are a great example of this. People freely admit that the food isn't good but their kids love meeting the characters so they go there every trip, and that's perfectly fine. As long as you know what you're getting yourself into and you're happy with that, go and have a good time. It's a shame that Disney can't do better but it is what it is.

We weren't impressed with dinner at BOG but I am 100% happy that we went as I loved going inside and seeing the place which is beautiful. I wouldn't go again (though that was with the old menu so maybe I would) but I would never tell others not to go at least once.

This is my experience at Chef Mickey's. My wife loves it so it is our first stop every time we go. I don't like it.

The food isn't bad. Much of it is rock solid but none of it makes sense. Salmon next to mac and cheese next to yams? That doesn't make sense at all, even though all three are excellent. It is sort of manic. That does sort of match the ambiance. Huge families, lots of kids, characters strolling in and out while people wave towels or napkins or whatever.

I swear Chef Mickey's has all of the best dishes they couldn't find a place for on any other restaurant menu. It's all so random.

Le Cellier. Had to send steak back three times and they still could not get it right. Wife likes it med. well. It always came to us charred.

We found that Ohana for dinner wasn't worth the money since other than the noodles and wings we didn't eat much. I don't like chicken thighs and neither does my husband and it was far too chaotic in there to sit and enjoy a meal. Even after a Lapu Lapu.
Le Cellier, no issues with the food, but the seating - waaaaaaay to close to your neighbors. So much so that ours on both sides were commenting on our conversation to us and asking questions about our meal. My husband is not one for small talk and it completely ruined the meal for him because he felt like he was in a fishbowl.
San Angel Inn - I have nothing nice to say about the service we had on our honeymoon. The waiter was so preoccupied with something else he had to come back and ask what we ordered twice and I still got the wrong meal sent out to me. And I am still waiting on my drink refill 3 years later. I have been asked to not even suggest it for future trips no matter how cold I remind him the a/c is in the Mexico pavilion.

That being said some of the pleasantly underrated surprises I have had added into the rotation are Spice Road Table, The Wave, and Polite Pig.

Yak & Yeti. I heard great things. Everyone is my party said their meal was ok but my was awful, it was the Honeycrisp chicken. It was bland and mushy, huge disappointment. Never again.

Also Hoop Dee Doo review food was inedible. The only good thing was their strawberry dessert.

Last May, Boathouse. What a let down. Loud, uninterested server, out of several menu items, crappy table, blah, blah, blah....

Also our worst ever all time disney dining experience was Tony's Town Square.... never considered going back.

Ha Ha, just goes to show you everyone has different experience on different nights. We actually really like Yak and Yeti although we always seem to get a less than desirable table location and we were pleasantly surprised by how good HDDR food was and had a great table.

This is a restaurant pet peeve of mine. I get that they want to squeeze in as many people as they can, but doesn't anybody think, "Gee, maybe we shouldn't put a table right in front of the kitchen door or right next to the bathroom or right at the doorway where everyone walking in will bump into that chair."

When we went to Tiffins a few months ago, they escorted us to a table right at the kitchen door. The place didn't seem to be that busy so I asked to be moved and we were taken to a different room in a very nice location. That first table should be among the very last ones they fill when they have no other choices.

This happened to us on a cruise once, too (not DCL). We were taken into a 95% empty dining room and seated right at the kitchen door. 30 seconds later we all got up and moved one table over. The server seemed annoyed but oh well.

Whispering Canyon- The server who was waiting the table next to us was great, but our server was dry and didn't seem to enjoy her job. The only thing she did well was throw the straws at us when we sat down... :)

I also want to add Be our Guest Lunch to the mix. Turkey sandwich tasted dry as crap and the bun which was toasted was hard as a rock. Now I never usually complain or send stuff back, this time I asked for the manager and they gave my money back. Honestly never again for BOG. IMO the food has gone down hill since when it first opened. Breakfast might be the only meal there I might give a 2nd chance to.

For me, the last time I went to Liberty Tree Tavern. I had gone twice before and had great experiences, but my last visit wasn't good at all. The food and service were so much worse than they had been before, and it was disappointing. We're going to give it another try this year.

Edit: Be Our Guest for lunch is my other answer.

I wonder how many people’s negative experiences were partly due to cost or value. Was it actually bad or just not worth what Disney charges? I know my expectations are very different for a $15 meal than for a $50 meal.

you make a valid in great point. But I will say this i will say that I don't concern myself with price at all. To me it has to do with the value of a good meal in general no matter if it's $10 or $5 or $50 and so on. I also judge by quality of service as well. It doesn't matter if it's Disney World or if I'm eating at Longhorn or McDonald's I know people have a bad day but I don't expect somebody to take my ordered and disappear for 20 minutes when I need a glass of water. No matter what restaurant I said that that's kind of ridiculous don't you think? So I judge based off of a male and how good or bad it is and other little nuggets as well.

For sure. It’s not all about price. We had a terrible experience at Pecos Bill’s a couple of years ago. Ended up speaking to the manager and getting a full refund. But I’ve also had “bad” meals where had the price been half as much, I probably wouldn’t have been that upset.

I recall once at the wave for breakfast I couldn't wait to eat there heard the bath a was very good and we're very reasonably money-wise. I went there. Coffee and water and then didn't the waitress disappear for 15 minutes I need a refill on both. I look over and I see her talking to two friends at a table and she just stand there for 10 minutes nonstop. Didn't come over once to check in on me and when when she finally did I was so angry I told her I just want the check. She then had the audacity to ask me what's wrong why you leaving you only want up once for the buffet and I just told her I had to go and she said okay no problem I'll get the check and of course that one came quickly. That whole episode piss me off big time. I was anxious to eat there and why the food I thought was good I thought it was a joke that she took off and then she decided the BS with her friends that's one time when I would say the food was good but the service stunk so you see in can go both ways.

This is why we stick with counter service only. Save tons of money. food is fine. and no let downs. And, no complaints.
Eat...and get back to the fun at the park we are in.
I am doing more counter-service this trip than I have before and I'm excited about it because I'm looking for a variety of places that I've never eaten that and of course some favorite thrown in.

Kona cafe. We had dinner and breakfast we stayed at Poly.

Generally, the openness felt like an airport lounge.

The server we had for dinner was reading off a script with practiced inflection and it felt fake and like he wished he was anywhere else. The food was ok.

Breakfast felt like standard ihop food, which was fine. Our server was great.

It was just an ok experience, both times. I was expecting something awesome, I suppose?

Trader Sam’s, however, was amazing, food and drink - and is a must do now no matter where we are staying.

The mac and cheese at Liberty Tree our last trip was awful. I'm not convinced there was actually any cheese in it.
