confusing borrowing situation

We are planning a September 2019 trip using our 2018 and 2019 points. We have an October use year so the 2019 points will need to be borrowed. We are considering lengthening the trip by a night or two but would need our 2020 points to do so and can't borrow from those until October 2019. If we moved the trip to the last week in September/first week in October, how does that work when we transition use years during our stay? Will the system let me book it technically borrowing from two years during the stay or will we need to do two separate reservations? I am confusing the heck out of myself with this one.

Thanks in advance for helping me clarify this situation.

The only way to use the October 2020 points in October 2019 is to borrow them into that UY. You can not borrow borrowed points, so you will not be able to make one contiguous that spans two UYs on points unavailable for the start of that trip.

At the end of October 2018, you would book the first part of your trip (September 2019) at the 11 month mark. Come Nov 1, 2018, you would book the second part of your trip using the remaining 2019 UY points and then borrow from your 2020 UY to complete the booking.

Then call MS and ask them to link the two reserverations. You may run into problems doing dining at 180 days for the second part of your trip, but you shouldn't have any issues with FP+ at 60, or needing to move rooms on the transition. :)

ETA: Made a mistake about banking your 2018 points. Deleted.

Ok, might be easier just to wait until October for the trip then if we want to add on days so we can utilize all 3 years of points.

2018 points would normally be used October 2018 through September 2019,
but can be banked so they could be used October 2019 through September 2020.

2019 points normally can be used between October 2019 through September 2020,
but could be borrowed so they could be used October 2018 through September 2019.

2020 points can be borrowed to be used between October 2019 through September 2020.

A September 2019 trip could only used natural 2018 and borrowed 2019 points. You can't pull the 2020 points in for a *September* 2019 trip.

If crossing UYs and having it late September and early October, you could then draw in those borrowed 2020 points with two separate booking times.

If you make it all October 2019, then you would bank the 2018 points, leave 2019 points as is, and borrow 2020 points, and book up to 7 days of it all at once.

but would need our 2020 points to do so and can't borrow from those until October 2019

Clarifying this wording... You can borrow when you're able to book the trip. You can book an October 2019 trip at your home resort 11 months before the trip. So in November 2018 you would be able to borrow those 2020 points into the 2019 UY to book the October 2019 trip at your home resort.

That's likely what you meant, but this sort of thing trips people up all the time, and they start to feel that they can't borrow until 11 months from when their UY starts.

Hoping I didn't fall asleep while doing the UY math here...

When you book a trip that crosses your UY, in your case, end of Sept through early Oct, you have to make two reservations and they get linked. You make one reservation for the Sept nights and another for the October nights.
