Courses or Session for child interested in production?

Hi. Not sure where to pose this ...or even how to phrase it.
I'm looking to see if there are classes or courses for a child who is interested in video production, computer animation, etc.
I see they have a few that would fit the bill as part of the Disney Youth Education Series, but those are for groups ... and we have just the one kiddo.

Maybe a lunch with an animator type event?
Or something away from the parks, like at the Disney animation studios or something?
maybe not even Disney related, but something drivable during our SoCal trip?
Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't know how to search because I'm not really sure if something like this even exists.
I'm looking for something that is a little more about the business and work ... if someone is interested in these things as a career ... to get some basics about how to get started, etc.

thanks for any help you can provide.

USC has summer classes specifically tied to Disney Production. My daughter spent 6-weeks at the USC Cinematic Arts school this past summer and her roomie was doing the Disney Production class.

This is the guy my niece uses for her homeschool classes. She really likes the courses. I can’t post a link but google: theanimcourse

Hi Delilah,

I am have been a professional Animator for the past 20 years.

How old is your child? There may be a few online classes your kid could take depending on how old and how interested...these are good schools (I've taken them) taught by industry pro's at Pixar and WDAS, Blue Sky, Sony Animation....ect. But they aren't cheap! The beginner or intro courses might be ok....but you will need a web cam and download Maya (student edition) which is the industry standard software

https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/maya

Check out:

https://www.ianimate.net/ - (this one leans a bit more to the Dreamworks method)
https://www.animsquad.com/masterclasses/ - (this one leans to the WDAS method)
https://www.animationmentor.com/

If you are set on a face to face...

Unfortunately I only know one person at WDAS and I don't know him well enough to ask for an onsite...but you could try Adventures By Disney (not cheap either) as they offer a tour and chance to speak to an Imagineer (I think)

If you just have specific questions about being an Animator...you can private message me and I'll try and answer best I can...

whoa this is some amazing feedback! thank you so much!
He is only in 5th grade, so perhaps a little young for all of this ... although his interest is beyond just being a phase and he truly wants to improve his skills as he plans to pursue this as his career.
I'll check out all of this, but I think perhaps we keep our trip a vacation and keep the courses online.
Maybe we can think of the trip as research! ;)

oh that sounds so awesome! probably something to consider down the road ... good to know! I'll file that one away! thanks!

my son had an interest at that age and he is now in college pursuing tv/film video production as a career at hofstra university, ny. on vacation at that age in california it was just enough to take visits to paramount studios and warner brothers studios tours, perfect for that age. we are on the east coast so it was a treat. as he got older he took a local college level class in high school and joined his hs video club. fifth grade is great age to just see movies often, watch shows on tv with him and have nice discussions about them. seeing different genres. also in school they had opportunities to do the morning announcements , etc. to get involved in younger. in hs he went to socapa, nyc (look it up)... it was a great program for him in the summer.
