Debt Dumpers 2020

My friend and I do a massive Christmas baking day every year. I am paranoid about supplies so I have been picking them up as I see them and little by little. I put everything we still need into the cart on Walmart online and surprisingly prices this year will be about the same. Probably helps that I picked up nuts for cheaper prices earlier. I am relieved as I was worried about getting items and what they would cost this year.

We are officially under contract to buy a house and should close in 6 weeks. The debt dumping is on pause while we put our funds toward moving and everything that comes with it. We’re getting a great deal on a house in the same town we currently live in. In fact, I thought it was a scam when I first heard about it, so I keep waiting for something bad to happen, but everything is checking out. No major issues with the inspection and our attorneys are handling everything on the title side.

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can help with suggestions!
We are heading down to WDW in a few weeks for a 24-day trip. I've got a ton of gift cards saved up equaling about $4500.
I'd like to budget $200/day for spending, including food.
Is there an app that can help track this? I am looking for something that I can set a daily spend goal and maybe scan receipts or manually input each purchase and it will tell me how much is left in my daily budget.

Thank you!

No idea if there's an app, but if you are just looking for something on your trip I'd use excel, Google docs or the note app and a calculator.

The gc balance also prints on the receipt so if you know what you start the day at you could use that.
If you are looking for a budgeting app to continue using outside then for sure I'd find something to use. I use excel for that as well since I can set a column to add up when I enter numbers and can access it on my phone if I need to through my Microsoft login and the cloud.

I have been looking for cherry baking chips to no avail. no store has them in my area and online prices are ridiculous. Today I am working visit clients in their homes and I stopped at a gas station to use the restroom and grab a water. They had cherry chips!!! I grabbed the two bags I needed. Of all the places to have them.

Congrats! We are too!!! We lucked into a private sale offered to us by the broker my boyfriend is using. We didn't have to compete with anyone. It just fell into our laps like it was meant to be and it's everything we wanted and more. :dogdance::dogdance::dogdance:
woo hoo! Congratulations!! That's great news.

I don't use Disney gift cards usually, typically use a credit card for expenses. I had one visit several and consolidated them, under disneygiftcard.com I think it was and could check the one balance.

For tracking, no idea, I'd probably just save my receipts and use a notepad, or notepad on the phone or OneNote. I'll do that anyway just because (at least on saving receipts) just in case on a trip, until it's posted and I'm done with the trip. I suppose one could set up a temporary very basic and free budget app specifically for the trip entries, and manually in the month only the trip accounting, enter the amount of the gift card as if it were a paycheck, and don't link any banks (well, free ones probably don't let you), and set up/change the categories on the expenses to be something like dining, lodging, stores, transportation, entertainment, other and enter as you go? :confused3That could be a completely and absolutely terrible idea, I don't know. I know it's not the intended purpose of the free budget apps.

I'm not aware if there is any Disney or other travel-type budgeting app where you enter your allotted amount whether it is a gift card or saved up amount for the trip, and allows you to enter transactions as you go. There may be, I've never looked. Interesting!

I’m not sure if it’s perfectly set up for this but I would use the fudget app. I got it a while back and was able to sort out the different sources of income we have and then you can deduct your expenses from each entry. Maybe you could pre-establish each day’s 200 “income” and then as you spend put it as an expenditure.

DH and I have finally decided on taking a roadtrip next month for our vacation instead of doing WDW. As much as I want to feel some disney magic and explore new parks, I don't think I'd be able to handle 5 days of having to wear masks. The only thing we have booked for our roadtrip so far is our hotel in Vegas. We'll be staying at the Aria for 3 nights (anyone have any input on the Aria?) I've never been to Vegas and DH has never been as an adult, so we're both looking forward to it. After Vegas I think we're heading to San Diego for a night or 2 and we're for sure heading to Anaheim to go to DTD. Knotts just announced today they'll be doing a Christmas food festival that starts on the 20th. I really want to go, but we had planned to be home that day, so now we need to talk about it and figure out what we wanna do.

Enjoy the road trip! Are you going late in the next month? The air quality right now in OC may not be so good with the Silverado fire from the report in the OC Register yesterday. Though, it seems they made a little progress and hope it continues.

We'll be going mid/end of the month so hopefully the fires/ smoke will be gone. I've had enough smokey skies for a lifetime lol.

Hi all. I know that I have been MIA for a while. Things have just felt really busy overall and I hated that I felt like I didn't have time to catch up on all the posts. I decided that doesn't matter, just start back up and hopefully I can figure out what I missed as I go along. I hope everyone is doing well.

I had a sweet baby on August 21 named Laurance Xavier. He is super chill and sleeps like a professional. He is now 8 weeks old and sleeping 10 hours straight at night. We bought a used Snoo for $600. I was somewhat skeptical, but it has been an amazing investment. Some cuteness for your day:

That is such a cutie!!! And August 21 is the BEST birthday to have. (I'm a little biased there).

I only had 3 goals left for the rest of the year and I think i'm going to just call them done.

  • Save an additional $1000 towards emergency fund - This has been completed.
  • Increase retirement contributions for DH and myself - This has not been done. But I am supposed to be receiving a small COL raise and I might increase my mine then.
  • Pay an extra $500 to Highlander - This has been half way completed. I think I'll get the other $250 done before December, but i'm not going to beat myself up about it if it doesn't get done.
At this point I think i'm just going to enjoy the rest of the year. As I mentioned DH and I will be headed to Vegas and SoCal for our vacation, plus with Christmas being less than 2 months away, i'm sure we'll be going through cash pretty quickly between now and the end of the year lol. I hope to knock out a couple gifts between going to the Disney Outlet in Vegas and heading to DTD.

Good luck to everyone trying to complete some of their goals before the end of the year. I know you can do it!

Also, I hope everyone is ready for the great pumpkin tomorrow!

Congratulations on your new homes! I hate the process of moving and don't plan to ever do it again, but love the idea of a "fresh start." Hope all goes well for both of you! Please post updates so I can vicariously enjoy your experience without having to actually do the hard work :-) .

That's weirdly lucky or something. Cherry baking chips sound really good. I don't think I've ever seen them nor have I ever eaten them. What do you use them for?

On to my "debt dumping." Last I posted I think my spouse and I were holding off on making the extra payments on our mortgage. Well, my husband really wants it paid off by the time he retires, which is still looking like it will be less than two years from now so we are back to massive house payments.

We are both still working and chugging along, although my position has become more precarious due to changes in my organizations' leadership. My step-son lost his job last month so we sent him some money and may do so again soon. We also had a major plumbing issue that costs about 2500 to repair (I can't remember if I already posted that and too lazy to go back and check) and now we have a giant hole in a brick wall that we will need to have repaired as a result. That's going to be another couple thousand dollars. I'm spending so much money this year on the house! But we were super fortunate with minimal house repairs needed over the last 10 years (it's a 65ish year old home), so I guess it's all just catching up with us now.

I'm doing really well with my newfound ability to not worry so much about what tomorrow will bring. So that's been good. Hope everyone has a lovely halloween.

What a wonderful attitude! I just decided on the way to work that I'm going to try and call in one driver a week to compliment them to their bosses. Today, it's trash truck #368. Tomorrow, bus #110.

And I've got to call the Women's Imaging Center and tell them to stop sending me notices for another mammogram! Thanks to their efforts, I happily don't need them.

It has been a few years, but the Aria was very nice (huge) and we enjoyed the room. We didn't love the casino and had issues with them not honoring the special we had booked direct through them. I got it corrected, but it was a pain.

I use the cherry chips to make bing bars/cherry mash barsCherry-Mash-Bars-960x720.jpg. They are a cherry/chocolate candy that I feel is delicious!
