Disappointed

I have an American friend who is coming to the UK. She's spending a couple of days in London and I was hoping to meet up with her. I'm flying out to LA the day before she flies home.
I booked an extra day at the airport Hotel with a plan of meeting up with her in London as we had talked about. I just got an email from her and she and her companion are delighted to have found three casinos in London so they can go play slots, as she says. Am I right to be saddened that on her first and probably only trip to the UK and London that she wants to spend her time in a casino? I was hoping we could go see the sights together as I haven't been to London in over 30 years and I've no interest in gambling, especially the day before my own holiday.
I don't want to tell her that I don't want to meet up with her just to watch her play fruit machines at a casino, I was hoping to visit Buckingham Palace or the Tower of London, for example, and make memories.
We've known each other for over 40 years and don't get to meet much. I'm just so disappointed.

It appears her priorities and yours do not mesh. And you had plans to meet up? And she cancels shortly before, with her New plans? I can understand your disappointment. I believe I’d feel the same way. But you see that’s the Good thing... she does not have to control how you feel, do what you wish at this point.. enjoy yourself and so be it!

Thanks everyone, I'm a bit too passive for my own good, but, I did hint when I emailed her about going sightseeing together as I haven't been to London in over 30 years. I'm not into casinos or gambling beyond the lottery so it wouldn't be my thing even in Vegas, I'd go for the shows and sights there (plus the all you can eat buffets) Anyway, I have a plan B for me, I can't cancel the extra night in the hotel before I fly to the US so if we don't meet up I'm hitting the sights alone. I'm hoping it won't come to that.

I'm sorry your friend has such strange priorities (and embarrassed as an American). I do hope you will go and see the sights in London without her. I have spent time on my own in that city and always found it a great place for a solo visitor.

I visited London when I was 17 (I'm from the US) and would love to return.... visiting a casino seems so bizarre. That would be the very last thing on my mind... or I guess not on my mind at all, ever. I'd love to go back and re-visit some of the places we went before and add a few new ones. You are not wrong to feel disappointed.

My husband and I were allowed to peek into the casino that was attached to our hotel, and we weren't impressed; this was several years ago, though, so they might have improved. I can't imagine a casino visit winning out over seeing London, no matter.

OP, that is so sad! We have friends in London, and we would never, ever go to a casino and not visit with them. I can't imagine what they are thinking??? Hope you have a great vacation!
