section of Vegas when you go there ?

I try to get there every trip for at least 5-6 hours, even thought of spending the night there one night, its a lot of fun and a lot of action but a little bit seedy, your thoughts ?

Rarely do we go downtown anymore. We used to go there and stay for golf tournaments. But the last round we went the hotel was disgusting. They finally told us we could pay our dues for the tournament and stay else where. I am not fond of it down there anyway.

We like heading up there for the freak show LOL. Wouldn't stay there as the hotels are just to dated. Great place to spend a few hours for the grins of it and a few good restaurants.

At least there is a Tony Roma's down there. We do enjoy eating there once in a while since they closed the only one here in town at home.

Is that one casino that has nothing but penny slots still there?

Technically penny slots dominate the industry now. However, when you can play 25-30 lines and up to 10 cents per line it's not exactly a traditional penny slot. Now I'm wondering what machines still accept coins or tokens. Right now dollar tokens seem to only be used on table games.

I think the area itself is thought of more as "Downtown" and actually in the city limits of Las Vegas. Business got better after U2 filmed their video for I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. That really gave the downtown area a publicity boost.

I kind of like The California Hotel and Casino. It's kind of different since the majority of their clientele is from Hawaii. They have a quick serve Hawaiian cafe upstairs. My understanding is that a lot of their customers have package specials with transportation, lodging, and a coupon book. Many arrive straight from the airport by bus and basically spend their time in this one place.

Can't remember, is that the one at the end of freemont st? It was closed for many years and then they redid it? If so it has the Hash a gogo in there. I would really like to eat there sometime.

Looked up what you mentioned, and that's The Plaza. The California has stayed open for years. I suppose the nicest place in the downtown area is The Golden Nugget. A lot of downtown is locals places like El Cortez.

I agree, the Nugget a great place with a really good steak place ( Vic & Anthony's ). My brother stayed at El Cortez shortly after the remodel. I looked like a nice place although brother mentioned that the rooms were a bit small by Vegas standards.

I remember going there years ago because they had free parking (refund of parking fee at the cage). Didn't stick around to play there. It looked really depressing. There was cheap wood paneling and it really seemed old. I guess they must have remodeled it since then.

El Cortez was remodeled into a "Modern" look. They did a good job, but like I said maybe they should have sacrificed some rooms to expand others. By comparison, brother said our standard pyramid room at Luxor was a bout 25 to 30% larger than his at Cortez.

heading downtown today! we always stay and play downtown

Easiest/cheapest way to get from NY NY to downtown?
If you haven't already used Uber or Lyft, you can download and get some promotional credit. Then send referrals to your friends traveling with you and you each get more promotional credit.

Im thinking of using Uber this trip, I heard that Uber can not pick up at a hotel on the strip can you confirm that

We used Uber at strip casinos; however you have to go to the main entrance, as if you were a hotel guest being dropped off at hotel registration. Make sense? Not on the actual strip. We just went outside to that location for the hotel and then requested the pickup. Most often the driver would immediately call and confirm exactly where we were standing. HTH
