Does room availability affect AP or other room only discounts?

I have a question about room availability and discounts. We are booked for 11/24/10 - 12/02/18 and currently have a 1 BR savanna view booked at Kadani Village. It looks like there are no more of those rooms available by looking at the online booking site. If they release a room only discount, AP or otherwise, will the availability play a role in what rooms are discounted? It makes sense that it would matter, but I am not sure.

Yes, it does. Disney chooses which resorts and room types get the discounts based on how well those categories are booking without discounts. If it looks like occupancy will be in their desired range without discounts, you won't see one.

Thanks. So can you get a good idea based on current inventory showing online? Or just check at the time?

Yeah, this is an important point. They offer discounts only if they didn't sell enough rooms at full price. So everyone who books at full price with the plan to switch it to a discount later, is unintentionally sabotaging their own ability to get discounts.
