::MinnieMo ARRIVAL DAY

We arrived in Orlando at about 11am and I stopped by the Domino’s Pizza just outside of Disney (8578 Palm Pkwy) for one last affordable meal for the 4 of us before we entered Mouseland. I had the girls call ahead to order while I drove and for $12, I had lunch for 4 people and it was hot and ready when I pulled up. We took the pizza to the pool at the Polynesian where we spent the afternoon enjoying the pool and sunshine. The Dole Whips from Captain Cooks quick service were amazing!! The girls loved them! Since the Poly can accommodate 5 in a studio and we only had 4 people in our party, I was able to add my local friend to the room reservation. She and her daughter drove over and joined us at the pool for the afternoon. We were at the main pool with a big slide and waterfall. Later, I realized there was a smaller and quieter pool not too far away, but by then, we were already headed to the room to get ready for the evening. I will have to say that the Dole Whips were the say of the day! YUM!!!

The view from our lake view studio was wonderful! We were almost at the end of the Moorea building neat the Ticket and Transportation Center. I will say that the boat horns ere loud. Overall, they did not bother me much, but If I had planned to sleep in, take a nap or had a sleeping baby, I would not have been too happy. I would think these horns would bother a light sleeper. Luckily, the horns stopped around midnight and were quiet until about 8 am or so.

The room was ready at about 4:15pm according to the text I received. We went straight to the room and had no problems getting on with our Magic Bands.

::MinnieMo AN EVENING ON THE MONORAIL & THE TOP OF THE WORLD LOUNGE

That night, the girls took the monorail over to the Grand Floridian to look around, listen to the music and shop. I took a little extra time to rest and enjoy the view from the balcony in our room. Later that night, I met up with them over at Bay Lake Tower so we could see the fireworks from the Top Of The World Lounge. Our local friend and her daughter also joined us. The chocolate caramel layer cake was DELICIOUS, as always. One slice easily serves 3 so we shared 2 pieces among the six of us. We had such a fun and relaxing evening. I really do love this lounge. We arrived at about 8:45 and there was a slight wait to get in for the fireworks that started at 9:15, but we made it in time. This “preview” of the show was great and the girls were so excited to find out they could see it closer with Cinderella Castle as a backdrop the next night since we were planning to go to Magic Kingdom the next day.

::MinnieMo HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE THE MAGIC KINGDOM?

Our Magic Kingdom day would start in the park at 8:30 and and end that night at 11:30 pm with Splash Mountain as our finale. Yes…we were exhausted and drenched…. but still laughing!

That morning, we packed up our bags and loaded them into the car before catching the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. That night we would be moving over to Animal Kingdom lodge. The park officially opened at 9 am and we were on Main Street to watch the opening show, shop and take some photos by 8:25am. Then, the girls TOOK OFF for Space Mountain! It was so hot. But , we had a day filled with characters, rides, heat, friends, laughter, fireworks and new memories to last a lifetime. We had lunch at Be Our Guest. The food was not great. The carved turkey sandwich lacked flavor. The kids turkey sandwich was ok , but it was supposed to be served with sweet potatoes fries. And really it was just chopped up sweet potatoes with no seasoning or anything. Thankfully, when I inquired, they brought some regular fries. The French dip was pretty good. The desserts were great…the masters cupcake, lemon cupcake and strawberry cupcake…YUM! Skip the meal and have cupcakes!!! We had dinner at Pecos Bill. I really like the food there. We have been about 3 times in the past 2 years and always had a good meal. We had a cheese burger and beef nachos. We managed to survive the heat. I twas about 94 degrees from 11 am until 5 pm. We brought water bottles and we got lots of free water from the quick service restaurants. From about 2pm – 3 pm we sat inside Cosmic Rays Starlight Café and had a snack and lots of water. Here are some photos from our really fun and REALLY LOOOOOOOOOONG day!

We took the monorail to the POLY and I drove over to Animal Kingdom to check into the value category studio at Jambo House. It was about 6;15pm when I finally got the test that our room was ready. However, it was not an issue since we had no plans to leave Magic kingdom until the very end of the day. We were so tired. I was so thankful that we did not have any plans for the next day and bell services took our bags straight to the room for use where we all collapsed and slept in the next day.

More to come….. ::MinnieMo

Here are a few more photos of our very fun, very hot, very long Magic kingdom day!

Be Our Guest was a great escape from the heat…even if the food was average….at least the desserts were great. And, to be perfectly honest, I was just there for the cupcakes! We had reservations at 11:35 and were seated right away.
Here are a few more photos….

::MinnieMo A DAY TO RELAX, VISIT THE DISNEY OUTLET AND DISNEY SPRINGS

So, I managed to get us over to the AK resort after my GPS directed me to the AK park and then around in about 4 circles. Bell Services brought our bags straight to the room. We had a great location. We were room 5020 on the 5th floor on the Giraffe Trail. We had a nice view of the pool and were high enough up that we didn’t hear too much pool noise. We were right by the elevator at the front of the lobby, which put us right by the gift shop and pool entrance….WOOHOO!!! Only ten points a night and NO LONG WALKS to the room!!! I still can’t believe that I was able to book a VALUE category room! I grabbed it right at the 31 day mark. At first it was just one night, then within about 40 minutes of stalking the site, I was able to piece together 3 nights. Then when a lake view studio at Poly came open, I didn’t feel guilty for spending the extra points to get that one night at the front of the trip.

We requested an air mattress because one of the girls sleeps like a wildebeest. LOL! She needs her own space. We set it up in the hallway area right at the front door. We latched the door so that Mousekeeping would not try to open it and hit her feet with the door. It was very comfortable and was really easy to inflate and deflate each day. Also, the room was great. It was clean and didn’t seem any smaller than a standard or savannah category studio. As a matter of fact, the counter section in the kitchen area seemed longer than most studios and I really appreciated that since I made some simple meals in our room.

We slept in until about 9 am. I went down to the gift shop and bought frozen waffles. I premade some egg / cheese / bacon muffins and packed some fruit so we had a nice breakfast. After that we headed out to look around the resort and then to the pool. We talked with a cultural representative about some birds at the resort and did a little game. We tried our best to see some animals. There were a few giraffes, zebras, antelopes and birds, but they were not really close. It was too hot for too many of them to be out wondering around.
I was really not happy that BOTH of the porches to sit and overlook the savannah at Jambo were CLOSED for private events. One was an event actually going on at the time and one was for an event they were preparing for at 7 pm. This was around 11:30 am…I was like, “REALLY”…? Not too cool…especially since I had told the girls we could sit and relax and see the animals from the porches. And, yes, I know I could have gone over to Kidani, but that was a bus ride or a ten minute walk away. It was 96 degrees that day….and I just didn’t feel like putting out the effort. LOL!

We looked at some artwork and then headed to the pool. We had some zebra domes and a cupcake. YUM! The pool was nice. Once we were at Vero beach in July and the pool water was alike a hot bath. This water was cool, but not cold. It was great to relax and float and not be baking in the 95 degree sun since we found a little spot of shade in the pool. Also, the hot tub was completely empty, so we sat in it for a while and just enjoyed the silence and relaxation.

[/url

We all used the showers at the pool house so that all four of us could quickly shower and then go to the room to get ready for the evening. There were clean towels and the great H20 brand shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers so it was really convenient and quick. Four women and one shower would have taken FOREVER in the room.

We had some cheese, black bean, corn, salsa, avocado nachos in the room compliments of my extreme microwave skills and took our time getting ready. It was going to be about 95 degrees until about 5 pm so we used that time to get all of the stuff ready for the next day (organized clothes, packed snacks, inflated the air mattress…etc…) at HWS so that when we cam back from our evening outing, we could crash into the bed and wake up early for another big day at HWS.

We headed over to the Disney Character Warehouse Outlet (8200 Vineland Ave #1252, Orlando, FL 32821) around 5 pm. They had some great deals ….really CUTE t-shirts for $8-18, $35 phone cases for $8, picture frames $4-7, plush from $5-12, Star Wars glasses / high ball glasses $4 (originally $14), Kate Spade purses for about $59 (not the cutest ones I’ve ever seen so I managed to refrain)…and lots and lots more. I might go there again. It was not far away and it was easy to park and walk through the food court to get to the shop. The girls wanted cheaper souvenirs, so it was a good place to check. We saw a McDonalds so we went through the drive through for a snack…fries and milkshakes! YUM!

Next, we headed back to the “Disney Bubble” for an evening at Disney Springs. The temperature was finally manageable at about 7 pm. We spent time in the World Of Disney store, the Photo Pass location, Basin. One of my favorite things is the $6 container that you can fill with a variety of bath salts at basin. With the 15% DVC discount, you can have a nice little thing for yourself of a gift for someone else for under $5.50…not too shabby!

[/url
]

We had a lot of fun at the Photo Pass stop…the girls had coordinated their outfits for everyday and for this particular evening, they had Spiderman, Iron Man and Captain America “inspired” outfits. So, they were very excited for a photo shoot!

We went to some more stores. They especially liked Trend and the Co – Op Marketplace stores. We all loved the dresses in the One Cherry tree Lane shop!

We ended the night with boba tea at the Morimoto Asia Street Cart quick service location.

::MinnieMo HWSHERE WE COME!

HWS officially opened at 9 am. We were on the bus from AKL at 8:05 am and in line to enter the park by 8:35 am. We were really fortunate that all of the busses came quickly, really quickly as a matter of fact, and we never had any transportation issues. They let us in all the way down to the Starbucks area at HWS. At 8:45am, a group of Cast Members walked us to the Slink Dog ride. Even though it has been open a while, this was our first time to ride it and we did not have FPs. We all loved the ride. I thought it was really well done. Lots of fun! Not too intense and not too lame…a prefect combination for a Disney rollercoaster.

[/url
]

Next, we headed over to Tower of Terror. It was 9:30 am and it was already SO VERY HOT! We had to wait about 45 minutes to ride since only one elevator was operational. The girls LOVED it and we had a blast!!

We stopped by one of the quick services spots and got some water and then headed over to Star Wars Launch Bay. We had just a little bit of time before our reservations at 11 am at Sci-Fi Diner and we were able to enjoy the cool air and a really quick visit with Kylo Ren since he only had a 5 -10 minute wait and we really needed a break from the heat. It was only about 10:30 am at this point.

[/url
]

After leaving Star Wars launch Bay, we took a wrong turn and ended up running into Frozone and the sport wot take photos with The Incredibles background. Frozone was just wondering around. He did not have an official line. I liked this approach a lot.

We made it to the Sci Fi Diner at about 11:05 for our 11:00 reservation. In all of our Disney trips since 2008, we have never been here. I have read so many mixed reviews. Some people just loved it and other say sit is just average or even bad. I will say the theming is GREAT and we had great service. We were seated in a two row car / table so we ordered milkshakes for everyone and an order of fries for each table. We were just so hot that no one really wanted to eat. Plus, we had snacks packed for later and 2 of the girls wanted to go back to the resort in the middle of the day to swim, eat lunch in the room and escape the heat. We didn’t stay long since we did not want to hold up the table for people who wanted a full meal and I tipped 22% percent because I felt like that was just what I should do in this case. It was fun and net time I think we may actually plan a full meal here. The menu looked great. We had all the milkshake flavors and they were great…strawberry , vanilla, chocolate and cookies with crème !

[/url
]

When we left the restaurant, Olaf only had a 10 minute wait and it was in the shade so, we all headed over that way. He was fun…

[/url
]

After that, it was about noon and my daughter and her BFF headed back to the room to rest, eat lunch and go for a quick swim to cool off. Both of them had been to HWS recently, but our exchange student and I stayed and did some more things in the afternoon….

More to follow… ::MinnieMo

::MinnieMo MANAGING THE HEAT AT HWS

While two of the girls were back at the resort taking a break, I went with our exchange student to meet Mickey and Minnie and then we went to see the Belle / Beauty and The Beast Show. I love this show and my French daughter is a HUGE Belle fan. We enjoyed a chance to sit in the shade and watch the show. After that we did some shopping and not long after the other two came back and joined us again.
[/url
]
[/url
]

At this point it was about 3 pm and the heat was starting to get to me. The three girls decided to go meet Mike and Sully. We were told it was a completely indoor line and so that fact that the line was 35 minutes long was actually WONDERFUL news! Funny how hot Florida sun alters your perspective! My daughter and Mike had a staring contest and he won. They had fun.

[/url
]

I ***LOVE*** how she is totally lost in this hug!!

On the other hand, I headed into the Brown Derby for a salad and some lemonade. I love the outdoor terrace, but today was an inside table kind of day. Have I mentioned that it was HOT???

After that we headed back to Star Wars Launch Bay to see Chewbacca and we encountered some Storm Troopers along the way. We were “Officially detained by the First Order’s Storm Troopers” and basically managed to get ourselves “arrested” because we looked like “suspicious Rebel allies”. It was so fun! My daughter was able to bust us out of jail by pledging her allegiance to Darth Vader and showing her phone case with his image on it. Our exchange student isn’t a big Star Wars fan , but she did get a kick out of this. I hope this is a preview of great things to come in SWGE…we are super excited about this new land!

[/url
]

[/url
]
[/url
]

This is a funny thing that happened. Our exchange student sent a photo of our detainment to her dad with a caption that said, “we just got arrested”. But, the photo did not go through right away…so all the way over in France for a few minutes, he thought we had literally been arrested. I am sure it was not one little bit funny to him. But , the four of us laughed and laughed and laughed.

We finished out the day a lot of fun. We had Toy Story Mania FPs so while we were in Toy Story Land, we went to Woody’s Lunch Box for dinner. Three of us had totchos and one the Mac N Cheese kids meal. We’d had totchos during our trip back in January and they were really delicious…such a guilty pleasure , but worth every calorie. YUM! I also really like the brisket sandwich here. This is not my photo. It is form Google, but in case you have never had them or seen them, it thought it was important enough to pirate a photo for you. Please order these on your next trip. This is my number one trip report tip!!!

W finished off by sharing two of the homemade pastry pop tarts . The Nutella one was ok , but the lemon raspberry one was GREAT! At this point, and at several other points throughout the day, the Alien Swirling Saucers line was under 40 minutes. But, it really just looked like the tea cup ride with no spinning so we just decided to skip it. We did the Ariel show quickly and then we had Fps for Rockin Roller Coaster. We had time to do the single rider line once before we used the FPs. At this point, around 7 pm or so , the line was down to 35 minutes. So, the single rider line took about 20 minutes.

For the end of the night, we split up. My daughter and I went to the Star Wars light show and the other two girls went to see Fantasmic. We met up outside the Starbucks and then headed out to the bus. We amazingly did not have to wait a long time for a bus. We were able to take a quick dip in the pool before it closed. It felt wonderful after a day of such high temps. We crashed in the beds and slept in until about 9 am. The next day would be our last and we had a few more fun things to do before we hit the road for North Carolina.

HWS did not disappoint. It was another magical day. ::MinnieMo

::MinnieMo AN IMPORTANT BREAK IN THE TRIP REPORT TO MENTION THE FASHION

Before I start to wrap this up, it is important to take a moment to discuss the fashion. Have you heard of “Disneybounding”? It is the concept of wearing an outfit inspired by a Disney character without wearing a costume. It is not cos-play. My daughter has long since outgrown the frilly (itchy) princess dresses, but loves Disneybounding. Here she is as Snow White at about age 3 and then again at abut age 15….Be Still My Heart! Don’t Blink! These days pass too quickly…
[/url
]

So, the three girls coordinated their outfits for each day.

At Top Of The World Lounge, they were Rapunzel, Ariel, Minnie and another Minnie.

[/url
]

At Magic Kingdom, they were Tink, Pooh and Belle.

For the evening shopping at Disney Springs , they were Spiderman, Iron Man and Captain America.

At Hollywood Studios, they were The White Rabbit, The Cheshire Cat and The Red Queen. I even had Mat Hatter ears. It was so fun.

I made most of the ears. I really like doing that. It felt like an ear factory at my house the week before we left….My husband was seriously concerned that I had lost my mind.

Thank you for indulging me. They really enjoyed doing this. And, I really enjoyed helping them. I made lot of the t shirts using transfer paper, as well as the ears.

::MinnieMo A FEW LAST THOUGHTS

WILL I GO AGAIN IN THE SUMMER? CONSIDER AN AFTER HOURS EVENT

I usually hate the heat. But, our points were not available for travel until June 1. So, we decided to give it a try. If I go back in the summer, I will either just do resort time or plan it around and After Hours Event. We just missed the Villains party and that would have been great. It was much cooler each night after 6 pm. So, for next time, I will keep that in mind. We were really on a tight time schedule for this trip since my points were not valid until June 1 and my French daughter had to depart from the Raleigh, NC airport on June 6.

So, with that in mind, I will say that HWS was not a bad park for a hot day. The park is smaller, so it was easy to get from one point to the other. We took advantage of the indoor Muppet and Ariel shows. Also, the wait for Mike and Sully was indoors. The Belle show wasn’t indoors but it was in the shade under HUGE fans so that really helped. And, then there was Star Wars Launch Bay, which is all indoors and we visited it twice. We also took an afternoon snack break in the air conditioned section of Back Lot Express. We really wore ourselves out at MK that day. But, it was worth it. I just probably won’t do it again. Unless , somehow that Disney magic permeates my memory bank and allows me to only recall the FUN and not the HEAT…Disney magic has a way of doing that….

PLACES TO BUY SOUVINEERS
The girls really enjoyed my DVC discount while souvenir shopping. However, they really loved the great prices at the outlet. We might make a stop to the outlet in future visits. Now that I know where it is and how to get there, it will be convenient. It is open until 11 pm and I hear lots of people flock there int eh mornings and buy up stuff. So, I am happy to stop by in the evenings when it is less crowded or just skip it if it isn’t convenient.
On our way out of town, we stopped by the Walmart closest to Disney, as well. Our exchange student wanted a few more things. They had lots of stuff and the prices were good. But, I probably won’t go back. I hate going to Walmart while on vacation. The things you do for your kids.

::MinnieMo THE LAST DAY

We woke up around 9 am and had some breakfast in the room. We all packed up our things and went to walk around the resort a little before officially checking out. We went to the gift shop and my daughter and her friend pooled their money and bought our exchange student, our French daughter, a charm bracelet with a Magic Kingdom charm and an America flag patterned Mickey head charm. A few tears were shed as we started the process of saying goodbye to her. She would fly home to France the very next day. But, never fear….shopping always helps with tears so we decided we needed one last stop at Disney Springs.

We went to Amorettes Patisserie for a mini Mickey cake and a lemon tart. Then, we went quickly into the World of Disney for a few last minute purchases. My daughter always gets a small Minnie Mouse plush for every Disney trip we take. We bought her a big one on our very first trip when she was three. That was our very first Disney trip as a family and it was the trip when we bought into DVC. We quickly realized we should not have room for a full size Minnie every time. So, we started the collection of smaller ones. This time she picked out Minnie in a rose gold glitter dress. How Sweet is that!?!?!

As always, Disney did not disappoint. We had a wonderful time! Despite the heat, everything was just perfect. We didn’t have a huge budget for lots of expensive meals or add ons. I had considered renting a pontoon boat or a meal at Trattoria Al Forno with the princesses, but decided against it in the end. I will save those for next time. We just relied on the fun things in the parks like rides, character meetings, shows and fireworks, as well as the great amenities at the resorts. I think we have managed to turn our daughter’s BFF into a “real official Disney addict”. This was here 2nd trip to Disney with us and I can tell she has the bug. And our French daughter…..well, let’s just say that as a European she has vacationed in Italy, Spain, Paris, Morocco , Thailand and Japan. During her exchange, she visited NY City and San Francisco. But, she told me this quick 4 night trip with only two park days in Disney World , was her BEST trip ever.

This DOLE WHIP photo from the World of Disney store says it best: “Dole Whips, Disney Trips & Friendships”…we had a blast!

I love your ears. My daughter and I Disney Bound every trip and make new ears each time. Here are some of ours. I'm really enjoying your trip report. It's getting me all excited for our next trip. By the way, I think we stayed in the same room as you last time we stayed at AKL. I loved that room. The location was fantastic and 10/11 points per night was amazing.

I absolutely **LOVE** the ones you made! We've made a lot of the same characters...LOL! Thanks for reading the report. We had a blast! How do you do yours? With fabric? I just print the images and then use modge podge and hot glue for the ribbons and trim.

I use the craft fun foam as the form for the ears... spray glue fabric to them and trim with the hot glue gun. We love making them... and every trip we end up giving some away if any little one has a conversation with us about them. Sadly I have to replace some of my favs now. But we love spreading the magic. My kids (when they were little), had so much pixie dust sprinkled on them by cast and guests, it's our little way to give some back.

Do you sell the ears by chance? If you do I would love to buy from you!

Thank you for sharing your trip report. I have a trip in late October and I keep reading about people buying extra hard ticket events beyond what I have already paid for my package. I start to wonder should we get Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party tickets, should we splurge for a Behind the Scenes Tour, etc. Your trip reinforced that there are so many activities to do with just your resort and park admission, you do not have to feel like you are missing out. Hopefully, some time soon you'll be able to visit the French daughter in France. Maybe even sneak over to Disneyland Paris? Just as I'm sure being a member of the DIS community you've done plenty of research on Walt Disney World. Do your research on La Belle France. Half the battle is setting up appropriate expectations. Just because things are done differently doesn't mean that one is better than the other. Just different. Enjoy the rest of your summer and hopefully you won't feel like you are living on the surface of the sun as you probably did in Orlando much of the time.
