ECV and RAIN

I have a prosthetic leg and finally decided to rent an ECV for my trip in June since last year I got very tired. I was wondering will the rain be a problem for the ECV. I know last year in June it rained, and rained, will this cause damage to the ECV? Also what are some reliable companies I can rent from? Thanks

Before I had my own ECV I rented from Randy's. When they delivered the unit they said that under no circumstances could the motor or controls get wet. They repeated this over and over. I was also there in the summer and when the rain started I covered well and headed indoors. Now that I have my own it simply says to avoid a total drenching basically. I keep a gallon bag and a couple of towels in my backpack on the back, but last year got caught going to the van in a downpour. I covered the best I could, but I know everything got pretty wet. It was fine and I've had no problems. Good luck.

I have used Walker a few times. They will ask for a credit card and charge it the day before arrival. They will deliver the ECV to your hotel bell services before your arrival and pick it up there after your departure. Their rates, especially for longer than a week, are much better than Disney's. Also, their scooters are much better.

You don't say if you are renting a car or what. If you are using a car for getting around, the ECVs break down into five pieces, the heaviest about 39 pounds. They take about a minute or so to take apart and about two minutes (once you are used to it) to put it together.

Walker provides a shower cap in a plastic bag. They say that only the control box needs to be protected. I cannot see why there would be any need for protecting the motor/wheel assembly ad there is no problem when driving through puddles.

When caught in the rain I have used a poncho which would of course cover my upper body and my legs, draping down over the back of the seat.

It is always a good idea to have a towel with you. If you left the ECV out in the sun it will protect you from the hot seat when you return. If it had been left outside and it started to rain, you can dry off the seat.

I also rent from Walker & would recommend them. As mentioned the ECV comes with a little plastic bag with a shower cap type item inside. I have used it on more than one occassion & it works fine. Plus I carry a poncho with me that covers me & most of the ECV. And I also recommend the light colored towel - it will help a lot!

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. This is my first time using an ECV. I was a little bit apprehensive about using one but I just can't stand the pain. Husband doesn't want to push me in a wheelchair and I understand that so I went ahead with Walker and I already received my confirmation.

Thanks Again!!!
