The Holiday Season is one of my favorite times to visit Disneyland Resort (though, to be honest, all times are great times to visit Disneyland!). I thought about adding the photos from the Holidays to the ongoing Figment's HalloweenTime Trip Report, but decided to keep them separate (for now).

Holiday Season, 2015
  • Holiday Trees
  • Big Thunder Ranch, General Decor, & Viva Navidad
  • Season of the Force
  • It's a Small World Holiday
  • Jingle Cruise
  • Grand Californian Gingerbread House and Hidden Mickeys
Anytime in Disneyland, is a great time to be in Disneyland. Along with Halloween and the Holidays, the Spring is also a fun time to visit Disneyland.

Figment's Diamond Sparkling Holiday Trip, 2015
Figment was lucky enough to go to Disneyland in early December to check out the Diamond Sparkling Holiday season at the Disneyland Resort. The holiday decor was out, but with some changes because of the 60th Anniversary Celebration. There were lots of blue and silvery decorations!

Holiday Trees
Throughout the resort, there were decorated holiday trees. For the most part, the decorations on the tree matched the location.

Absolutely wonderful!! Thank you so much for sharing !! Dh and I will be there for the first time EVER this Christmas and I know due to crowds (and time) we can't see everything...so I truly appreciate your thread!!

:jumping1:

Viva Navidad
Viva Navidad was back this year and seemed largely the same as in previous years. There were arts and crafts, a character M&G, special food offerings and a street party/show. It's fun to check out and the show is very lively.

Season of the Force
Season of the Force debut in time for the holidays at DLR, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the holidays. Most of Tomorrowland had been decorated with Star Wars theme projections, music, and banners.

Hyperspace Mountain - Space Mountain recieved a Star Wars themed overlay. It was similiar in concept to Ghost Galaxy, in that it used projections in the attraction. Overall, Figment liked Hyperspace Mountain better than Ghost Galaxy. There was stronger story line...and the laser battle effects were pretty simplistic but still fun.

There are two "fixed" character meet and greets inside the Star Wars portion of Launch Bay (Chewie and Darth Vader), plus one unannounced M&G. The CMs said that Boba Fett is known to stop by the Cantina at unexpected times (so keep an eye out for him). Some CMs also have cards that guests can collect - there are three of them (Darth Vader, Chewie, and Boba Fett). The Chewie one has a Aurebesh decoder which is helpful/fun because a lot of the signage in Launch Bay is in Aurebesh.

It's a Small World Holiday, 2015 Edition
For the most part, It's a Small World Holiday, 2015 Edition seemed very similiar to the previous versions. Nothing jumped out as being markedly different (except the New Year's sign said 2016). It's a very cute ride and all the lights are amazing at night. There was even a Hidden Mickey!

According to the sign board, there are 25 Hidden Mickeys on the showpiece. They're on the house, in the snow, and on the roof. It took a while, but Figment found almost all of them. I didn't get a chance to see the A Christmas Fantasy parade this year, but the little bits that I saw looked pretty similar to past years' parade. Just for fun, these photos are from previous years and include some of my favorite parts of the parade.

Overall, the design was very similar between the two years, but they added more embellishments and decorative pieces to the 2015 version.

Figment's Diamond Sparkling Spring Trip, 2016
Figment was lucky enough to go to Disneyland in mid-March to check out the Diamond Sparkling Spring season at the Disneyland Resort. Alas, there wasn't really very much in the way of Spring Time happenings in the parks this year, but there were a few things.

They did have balloons featuring Thumper! They were very cute. They also had the 60th Anniversary balloons and Baymax (plus other designs).

This was also the last chance to see Mad T Party, so we made sure to visit as often as possible! I've enjoyed the Mad T Party through the years and am sad to see it go. Hopefully they'll introduce something else in its place in the near future!

Egg-Stravaganza
The biggest Spring Time activity was the Egg-Stravaganza. This year, both parks and DTD got into it, with character eggs being hidden throughout the parks. The maps were readily available (when I was there), but you could only purchase the map for that park or DTD (i.e., store in DL only sold the DL map, stores in DCA sold the DCA map, and the DTD and resort hotels only sold the DTD map). So you had to visit both parks and DTD if you wanted to get all three maps!

There were six different prize eggs (Mickey, Minnie, Woody, Jessie, Stitch, and Cheshire Cat) and guests could select which prize egg they wanted. As with last year, you didn't have to finish the hunt before you claimed your prize egg. We got the Mickey, Cheshire Cat, and Stitch eggs!

For the most part, the hunt was pretty easy. I felt like the hunt was easier this year than last year. There weren't really any mis-leading or deliberately tricky clues this year. There were two eggs that were hard to find, but that was due to them being placed in a different location that originally intended (so I don't count those as mis-leading). Overall, I think this is a great activity for families. We saw lots of guests carrying around the egg hunt maps when we were there, so hopefully they'll bring this activity back next year.

Below are the photos of this year's eggs and there locations (so spoilers if you want to know nothing about what the eggs look like or where they hid them this year).

Disneyland - This hunt consisted of 12 eggs. The two unique eggs to Disneyland were Tinkerbell and Mr. Toad. I thought it was cute how they "hid" the Chip & Dale eggs near each other and both of the unique eggs were in Fantasyland.

Tinkerbell - Tinkerbell was hidden in Fantasyland, in front of the Carousel.

Dale - Just around the corner, inside the Pioneer Mercantile, Dale was hidden in the decorations. He was located above the room that has a lot of t-shirts, opposite of Rancho del Zocalo. I thought it was cute the Chip & Dale were near each other.

Minnie - Minnie was hidden in the China Closet shop on Main Street. She was opposite the last entrance, on the back wall.

Disney's California Adventure - This hunt also consisted of 12 eggs and the two unique eggs to Disney's California Adventure were Lightning McQueen and Mater. These were the same two unique eggs from last year and one was nearly in the same spot! As with DL, they hid some pairs close together. In this case, Chip & Dale, Donald & Daisy, Mickey & Minnie, and McQueen & Mater were "hidden" near each other.

Of the three hunts, this was probably the "hardest" hunt, but mostly because two of the eggs had to be relocated so the clue on the map didn't quite match up with the egg location. Otherwise, all of the eggs were pretty easy to find.

Donald - Donald was hidden on top of the over-hang on the walk-way leading to the Chamber of Commerce (Guest Services).

Daisy - Daisy was hidden on the balcony over the entrance to the shops on the right side of Buena Vista Street (when entering the park). She was near the lockers.

Goofy - Goofy was hidden in the back of the station wagon parked adjacent to Humphrey’s Service & Supplies. The DCA eggs seemed to like being in vehicles!

Goofy_Distance_zpswwk366aa.jpg

Mickey - Mickey was hidden on the water tower in Hollywoodland. I didn't have a zoom lense with me, so he was hard to see. He was probably the highest up/furthest away egg in all of the hunts!
Mickey_zpsotlg9pxz.jpg

Minnie - Minnie was hidden nearby, inside the Kellogg's truck parked across from the old Monster's Inc. Meet & Greet.
Minnie_zps4yt8oo38.jpg

White Rabbit - The White Rabbit was hidden under the sign for It's Tough to be a Bug, between Mater's Junkyard Jamboree and the entrance/exit to ITtBaB theater.

WhiteRabbit_Distance_zpskih1mtdg.jpg

McQueen - Thie year, McQueen was hidden on the roof the Mater Junkyard Jamboree (last year, Mater was in almost the same spot!). He was most easily seen from the side of the attraction closest to ITtBaB theater.
McQueen_zpshrehnlwv.jpg

Mater - Mater was hidden over on the windmill near Filmore's.
Mater_zpscguthp5b.jpg

Mater_Distance_zpsgjniojjj.jpg

Thumper - Thumper was hidden in the overhang near Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill. He was on the beams that stick out to the right of the restaurant, when facing the windows. The lighting was tough and I couldn't really eliminate the glare. Poor Thumper ended up looking a little washed out!
Thumper_zps9oiwxh90.jpg

Pluto - Pluto was hidden over the entrance to Toy Story Midway Mania.
Pluto_zpshc5jnof0.jpg

Dale - Dale was probably the hardest egg to find. The clue said "Park Service Ranger Truck" and there is indeed a Park Service Ranger Truck tucked away behind Grizzly River Rapids. Unfortunately, the egg wasn't there! It was actually closer to the water wheel, across from the snack carts.
Dale_zps5kdozvll.jpg

Dale_Distance_zpsxtzxvna0.jpg

Chip - Chip was the other "tough" egg to find. I honestly didn't know where the Artist Camp was located, but one of the CMs in the area said there is an Artist Camp set-up towards the back/top of Grizzly River Rapids. So I'm guessing the egg was originally meant to be on the trail behind Grizzly River Rapids. That same CM said they had been doing work on the trail behind Grizzly River Rapids, so they couldn't get access to the area to place the eggs. So instead, the eggs (Chip and Dale) had to be placed elsewhere in the area. So Chip ended up near the DVC kiosk.

Downtown Disney - This hunt was new for 2016! The hunt also consisted of 12 eggs and the two unique eggs to DTD were Woody and Jessie. I thought this was probably the easiest of the three hunts; almost all of the eggs where either in window displays or atop buildings. Unlike DCA, there really weren't any attempts to keep the character pairs together (except Chip & Dale).

Dale - Dale was hidden on top of the seldom (seemingly) used information kiosk near security. He was quite easy to spot as guests disembarked from the tram.

Chip - Chip was hidden in the last/first room of the World of Disney Store (the toy room), right near the entrance.

White Rabbit - The White Rabbit was hidden in Brisa Courtyard, which is on the pathway leading from DTD to the GCH. This was close to the hotels at the egg hunt got!

Daisy - Daisy was one of the rare eggs hidden inside a shop in DTD! She was in the display behind the registers in Marceline's.

Jessie - Jessie was hidden above Wetzel's Pretzel shop. She kind of blended in with the yellow railings, but was still really easy to spot.

Overall, my family really enjoyed doing the egg hunts in all three areas this year. Some of the eggs we found as we walked through the areas of the parks, others we made a special point of going to the area where the clues said there would be an egg. The hunts were pretty easy for the most part, but well worth doing!

Grand Californian Gingerbread House

Artist Signing
Two limited edition pins were released on Saturday, December 10th featuring the Grand Californian and the Disneyland Hotel. On hand, were three of the artists involved with the holiday themed gingerbread displays at DLR. They signed the pins!
  • Jorge Sotelo (Executive Pastry Chef) was in charge of the Grand Californian's gingerbread house. We asked him about the hidden Mickeys and he called one of his staff to find out if the Mickey snowman counted as one of the hidden Mickeys. Alas, it does not. It was very nice of him to call to find out!
  • Jean-Marc Viallet (Executive Pastry Chef) was in charge of the Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house. He's been leading that team for several years.
  • Bo Bolanos (WDI Art Director) was instrumental in getting the first (faux) gingerbread display into the DLH. He said that was the first step in convincing management to add gingerbread decor to the hotels. Then they went to the next step and created a real house at the Grand Californian. He's hoping to vary the design of the GCH gingerbread house at some point in the future, but for now, it's about establishing a legacy/tradition at the hotels.

Grand Californian Gingerbread House, Hidden Mickeys
According to the sign board, there are 25 Hidden Mickeys on the showpiece again this year (but they're not in the same places as last year!). They're on the house, in the snow, on the tree, and on the roof. Figment found 23 out of 25 (the Mickey snowman doesn't count according to the Chef).

Figment's Spring Time Trip, 2017
It's Spring Time at the Disneyland Resort! That means it's time for the Egg-Stravaganza!

Egg-Stravaganza
The Egg-Stravaganza returned to Disneyland Resort this year. The hunt runs from April 1 to April 16, with eggs hidden in Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure, and Downtown Disney. The maps were readily available (when I was there), but you could only purchase the map for that park or DTD (i.e., store in DL only sold the DL map, stores in DCA sold the DCA map, and the DTD stores only sold the DTD map). So you had to visit both parks and DTD if you wanted to get all three maps! The maps are $5.99 each and this year, they did offer an annual passholder discount!

There were six new prize eggs (pie-eye Mickey, pie-eye Minnie, Dory, Nemo, Lady, and the Tramp), along with the six eggs from last year (classic Mickey, classic Minnie, Woody, Jessie, Stitch, and Cheshire Cat). Guests were allowed to select which prize egg they wanted. As with last year, you didn't have to finish the hunt before you claimed your prize egg (in fact, the CM were asking if you wanted to redeem your map at the time of purchase or later). We opted to redeem our maps at the time of purchase to avoid having to wait in a second line. We got the classic Minnie (to go with the clasic Mickey from last year), Lady, the Tramp, and a pie-eye Mickey. Maps could be redeemed at Disney Showcase in DL, Elias & Co in DCA (the room with the children's clothing), and in World of Disney in DTD (between the children's and the art room).

They also released an annual passholder exclusive pin featuring the pie-eye Mickey design.

For the most part, the hunt was pretty easy. There realy weren't any mis-leading or deliberately tricky clues this year. Overall, I think this is a great activity for families. We saw lots of guests carrying around the egg hunt maps when we were there, so it seems like this is still a very popular activity.

Spoiler Alert: Below are the photos of this year's eggs and their locations for all three hunts.

Disneyland Egg-Stravaganza
All of the hunts consisted of 12 eggs. The two unique eggs to Disneyland were Tinkerbell and Mr. Toad (same as last year). I thought it was cute how they "hid" the Daisy & Donald eggs near each other and both of the unique eggs were in Fantasyland.

When I first got to Disneyland on Wednesday, a handful of the eggs were already out. Some of them stayed in the same location, but Goofy moved from the Magic Shop to It's a Small World!

None of the egg locations this year were exactly the same as last year, although the location near Bengal BBQ was pretty close.
