Day 3, October 31st, 2016-Part 3- A Burger, A Sprinkle, Lots of Meat & Treats, & a Halloween Party!
'Ohana

Well, my MIL is moved in to her new Senior Living apartment! My DH is still in the midst of transferring his mom & dad's most important items to the new place as we speak, and he's been at it all weekend. His sister & her friend came down yesterday morning from where they live in North Jersey, and spent the day moving stuff out of the house, and to the new place. My DH took off from work, and they moved things from the early AM until early evening, and were right back at it early this morning. SIL's DH drove down this morning to help. Sadly, my FIL is back in the ICU. He almost went into septic shock Tuesday evening, and it was quite scary for a while. With lots of IV antibiotics and other IV meds to stabilize him, he's doing okay at the moment. He went to the OR yesterday to have his extremely infected leg debrided of the infected areas & dead tissue. We're hoping he'll be moved out of the ICU sometime this week.

Okaaay! Let's get back to this Dining Report! So when I last left you, I had just finished eating the most amazing cupcake I've ever had! We took the boat back to POFQ to get ready for our dinner, and then MNSSHP! It's somewhat of a tradition for us to eat at 'Ohana's or LTT before MNSSHP or MVMCP. This trip it was to be 'Ohana! How I found an appetite after that huge burger, fries & cupcake I had for lunch is beyond me, but I did! We had early reservations, 4pm, if I'm not mistaken. Our table wasn't ready yet, so we sat at the Tambu Lounge...

...and I had one of these delicious beauties. I found this to be very spicy, but I loved it! Not sure if it was the Wasabi Blood Mary, which online menus have listed as costing $9,50 or just the plain ole regular one, as my receipt says it cost $8.25, and it was described as just a Bloody Mary. Never the less, it tasted hot enough to be the Wasabi one.

Look how happy I am! I even have on Mickey ears. I must confess this is the very first time I've ever worn Mickey ears. For real. I wore them on two occasions this trip, the MNSSHP, and then the MVMCP! I didn't find them annoying at all, which I thought I would, as I hate things on my head.

My honey is looking pretty happy, too! I think because he's excited for all that good food coming up!

Mixed Greens Salad - with a Lilikoi dressing. I'm not sure what the ingredients are in Lilikoi dressing, but it's pretty good. Has a slightly sweet taste to it. Not amazing, but a tad above average than your run of the mill restaurant dinner salads.

I just happened to find the Lilikoi dressing recipe on Allears. Imagine that!

Ohana Lilikoi Dressing
Ingredients:

3 T rice wine vinegar
1/2 small shallot
1 small garlic clove
1 T lemon juice
1 tt Worcestershire sauce
1 tt Dijon mustard
1/2 tt honey
Pinch of Salt
3/4 C Conola oil
1/3 C pog juice (Passion fruit purée)
1 T fresh parsley

Method of Preparation:

Dressing: Purée the first eight ingredients in a blender. gradually blend in the oil, then passion fruit purée and parsley

Salad

Ingredients:

6 oz Lettuce blind
3 oz Lilikoi Dressing
2 oz Diced Papaya
2 oz Mandarin oranges

'Ohana Pineapple Coconut Bread. I can't tell you how this tastes since I don't eat gluten, but from what others say, it's heavenly. I don't think my DH thinks that highly of it, as he really didn't eat much of it, but then again, he was probably saving his appetite for the really good stuff!

My delicious out of this world gluten free rolls! :crazy2: Had you going there for a minute, didn't I? Yea, these aren't good. They never are. They're really only good for being a vehicle to eat some of that butter, and if you don't eat them quickly enough they turn into rocks, so save the calories and the room in your stomach, and pass on these.

Ahhh, now for the yummy stuff! Sadly, I can't eat any of these. DH loves them though. Usually the chef will make me my own wings, but I don't like them, so I told him not to bother making me any. I mean, I like wings, just not these specially prepared gluten free wings. They're too wet or something. I like my meat dry, well at least my chicken. Nothing grosses me out more than wet fat chicken.

Here's my plate of boring rice and veggies. I have to tell you, about seven years ago we ate at 'Ohana and the chef made me an amazing creation. It probably didn't taste any better than what I had for this meal, but visually it was stunning, and therefore, in my mind, tasted better.

Hey Brandon! :wave2: Send some of that yummy Szechuan Sirloin Steak this way! I know some folks have said they've had steak that wasn't very tender, and maybe actually even tough, but we must be very lucky, because it is always very tender & very flavorful whenever we've eaten here.

Sweet and Sour Chicken? Yes, please! This is neither too wet nor too fat, as I can cut it into thin strips, unlike the fatty floppy skinned chicken wings!

Drumroll please! The star of the show, the piece de resistance, we have 'Ohana Bread Pudding - served a la mode with Bananas, vanilla ice cream and Caramel Sauce
Okay, does this look delicious or what? Again, I can't have any. I can have the ice cream, but really, who is here for the ice cream? I am usually offered vanilla ice cream over a dry brownie. I passed on dessert. DH enjoyed this thoroughly though.

Now that we were sufficiently stuffed, it was time to hop a monorail and get ready to PAR-Tae!

Sounds like you all had a great meal at 'Ohana. I've only eaten there once like 20 years ago and every time I see someone post a review I want to go again, then of course I never make reservations before the last minute so no such luck for us :-)

BTW, you may have realized it but none of your pictures are coming through for some reason.

What????? I can see them perfectly fine. Can anyone else see them? Please let me know ASAP, as I'm just getting ready to finish this report up so I can start the next. Also can you also tell me which browser you're using?

Ugh, so now I feel completely defeated about finishing this DR. I've been copying the image address from my photos on my Google Photos, & apparently it looks like if you're not using Google Chrome to view this report, and say using Internet Explorer instead, my photos are disappearing and being replaced with a red x. Ugh ugh ugh!!!! I think I fixed the last update by deleting the photos which I had inserted using copy image address, and just copied the photo instead and pasted it into the report. I certainly don't feel like doing that with all my photos I've already included in updates though.

I'm using Chrome, and I can see some of your pictures, but not all of them. The first two pages or so are fine, but after that it was hit or miss.

That is so weird. I've been adding them the same way since the beginning. I can see all of them if I'm logged in on Google Chrome, but not on Internet Explorer. Ugh. Well, I can't go back and change all of them or I'll never get this report done. Guess I'll have to continue with Shutterfly. Thanks for letting me know! Can you see all of them in the above update since I've changed them? Just wondering if the copy & pasting is working.

I'm really sorry guys. It looks like a lot of the photos are appearing, then disappearing, then reappearing. I tried to fix some of them, but like I said, it would take me forever, so I'm just going to continue from here, and not post photos links from my Google photos anymore. That seems to be the problem. I'll upload them from another photo sharing site as I continue.

Day 3, October 31st, 2016-Part 4- A Burger, A Sprinkle, Lots of Meat & Treats, & a Halloween Party!
Finally MNSSHP!

Okay, let's get this day over with! So after our amazing dinner at 'Ohana, we hopped the monorail to MNSSHP! We've done this party quite a few times already, and while I love the Christmas party, the Halloween one is definitely my favorite of the two. Maybe that's because I absolutely adore the fall season & Halloween, and start decorating on September 1st! The Boo To You parade is the best thing about MNSSHP, in my opinion, and I'm not even a parade person. For instance, I've still yet to see the Festival of Fantasy parade, even though we've been to the MK so many times since that particular parade started. Parades are just not my thing, except for the Boo To You parade! Gotta love the Headless Horseman riding down Main St. Years ago he use to really book it down the street, but now he trots at a sedentary pace, probably for safety issues.

Unfortunately, I don't have any my own MNSSHP food photos to post, as we didn't eat much during the party. I promise I'll rectify that at this year's MNSSHP that we'll be attending on September 17th! We shared a caramel apple from Big Top Treats, but I think that was the extent of our party eating. We spent more time getting Photo Pass pics done, and shopping! I'll post a few of my Halloween party pics and then move on to day 4.

I borrowed this pic from the web to show you some of the Halloween party treats available at Big Top Treats in Storybook Circus!

Thanks! I guess I'll just stick to posting pics from my Shutterfly site then. Thanks for the feedback!

Day 4, November 1st, 2016- Part 1- I do declare, who died? And there's bad rumblys in our tummies!

After our night of hanging out with happy haunts, we woke up excited to get the day going. Our plans were to walk over to POR for breakfast at the Riverside Mill Food Court, and then head to Animal Kingdom, my very favorite park, for the afternoon. We've stayed at POFQ a few times, and really love it. I like that it is a smaller resort, with one bus stop, and the fact that the pool and hot tub are pretty close no matter which building you're in, not to mention it's location along the beautiful Sassagoula River, and the fact that you can boat to Disney Springs. We are DVC members, but try to conserve points by adding a few days at the front of our trip staying at POFQ, or booking a non-DVC trip in between DVC trips. I think POR is absolutely gorgeous, but it is a huge resort, so prefer POFQ, given the choice.

We walked over to Riverside along the pathway that borders the river. What a beautiful morning! Nothing could mar this day, or could it?

We've never eaten at the Riverside Mill Food Court before, so I wanted to give it try. I had a veggie egg white omelet with breakfast potatoes and sausage. I thought this was pretty good, and filling. Nothing exciting, just good ole breakfast food.

enhance

My DH obviously went all out! Lots of breakfast meats on these plates. He chose an obvious meat lovers & veggie omelet, with sides of bacon & sausage, and cheesy grits. He loves him some grits! He is from the south you know, South Jersey! :teeth: I guess he didn't get enough meats at 'Ohana the day before. :confused3 He loved his grits; said they were really good & creamy & cheesy, and he tried to get me to eat some. No thank you. He does this all the time. He knows I don't like something, but insists I try it. Yogurt for instance. He loves yogurt, with granola on top. I don't like yogurt, even with delicious granola on top, even if it is delicious Fage that tastes like cheesecake dessert (his description). It never fails though. Every time DH has his delicious dessert yogurt, he insists I try a taste. NO! I don't like yogurt! You're not going to get me to like yogurt! There. I feel better now. :lmao:

We were having a very enjoyable breakfast, talking about our plans for the day, reminiscing about MNSSHP the night before, and were just in a generally great mood, until my sister called. I immediately went in to panic mode, as why was my sister calling me on a late Tuesday morning when she should be at work, and she knows we're at WDW, so she wouldn't be calling to just chit chat at 11am. I answer, and the first thing she says is "did you look at Facebook this morning"? I'm like huh? No, I haven't. My sister can talk 100 miles an hour, and she was on turbo speak right now. :hyper: All I caught was Mindy, Aunt Carol, dead, bed. After I walked outside where I could hear better, and she calmed down a bit, she told me that when she logged on to Facebook that morning she saw she had a message. It was from our late cousin's wife, Mindy, sending us a message that our 90 year old Aunt Carol had been found dead in her bed sometime that morning, by her cleaning lady. Poor Aunt Carol. I felt so bad that she died alone, but on the other hand, it appeared that she passed away in her sleep, so that was a good thing. What I couldn't get past is that Mindy sent us a FB message to tell us this. Seriously???? You couldn't pick up a phone? My Aunt Carol was my dad's sister, & the oldest of seven siblings. She had no children, and two shi..., uh, crappy husbands, and had been divorced and on her own for the past 30 years. She did have a very nice boyfriend for around 20 of those years until he passed away about 10 years ago, but he wouldn't marry her because she was a divorced woman, and his religion wouldn't allow it. He was a widower. She was a very independent woman who worked up until about five years ago when she started having random petit mal seizures, and also was diagnosed with macular degeneration. That about killed her, as she was an amazing seamstress, still driving, enjoyed reading as a hobby, and was a foreman at a few different sewing companies throughout her working career, up until she had to stop working. She made all of her nieces' wedding gowns, as well as custom gowns for clients. She even worked in the costuming departments at several casinos in AC. Mindy said Aunt Carol stipulated in her will that she wanted to be cremated, so there would be no services. Even though Aunt Carol was a "divorced woman", she was still very involved in her church, so we had a hard time believing she wouldn't even want at least a Mass said. There is a lot of family drama around all of this, especially the fact that Aunt Carol had recently switched out my sister, who is my aunt's niece & Godchild, as POA, to Mindy, who is not a blood relative, and was married to my cousin, Joseph, who passed away at the age of 49, fourteen years ago, due to a brain tumor. Whatever. I hope Aunt Carol is dancing the jitterbug up in heaven with my dad. They both loved to dance and were very close as far as brothers and sisters go.

So after digesting that bit of sad news, my DH & I started to take a leisurely stroll back to FQ. If you've never walked the grounds of POR & FQ, you really should. Beautiful Disney landscaping at it's best. Enjoy a few photos I took along our walk, that started out leisurely, but ended up in a speed walking race!

It was at about this point in our stroll that we both started having serious rumblys in our tummies. Serious! OMG. WTH? We were like :chat: you, too? I swear I've never walked so fast in my life. It's not a long walk from Riverside to French Quarter, but it's not a short walk either. I'm like OMG, OMG, the entire way back. You know how they recommend Kegel exercises after childbirth? Well I was doing them with other muscles, LOL. :crazy2: Thankfully, we made it back in time, but now we were fighting over the bathroom! I won. DH had to run to the lobby bathrooms, lol. I don't know what the heck was in that breakfast. Maybe the greasy potatoes, or the greasy breakfast meats? I don't know, but now I'm afraid to eat breakfast there again. I'll close out this portion of this day's update with a few more pretty pics! Up next, an amazingly delicious dinner at Yak & Yeti!

Sorry to hear about your aunt. Never good to get that news at all, but certainly not on vacation and yes facebook is woefully inappropriate. Glad to see you all were able to make the most of the day though.

And I can see your photos now, but I'm in chrome today (was using safari the other day)

We've done MVMCP twice and MNSSHP 4x, the Halloween party is by far my favorite of the 2. Not only that it's my favorite ticketed event in Disney! SO bummed we're missing it this year, it killed me to move our trip to early Aug. and get our tickets refunded (although I'm very glad they refunded our tickets lol). I actually love Christmas more than Halloween but fall is such a fantastic time to be in the parks and the way they do the Halloween party, the parade in particular, just makes it the best :goodvibes

:scared1: :bitelip: I'm glad you made it back!! Thanks for sharing lol, it's something everyone can relate to! My boys had an experience similar to that after eating nachos at La Cantina in Mexico at Epcot but they were throwing up :crazy2: We all love eating there but all the money in the world won't get them to touch the nachos again!

Very sorry about your Aunt Carol, may she Rest in Peace :littleangel:

I'm so sorry about your aunt. She sounds like quite a lady!

Gorgeous POR pictures!!

Thanks, jakenjess! Yes, Aunt Carol was a character, in a good way!

Thank you, Raeven. It's still hard to believe my aunt is gone. She lives on in our memories though. I'm glad I'm not the only non-parade person, lol!

Thanks, Kari. Yea, I totally don't understand her leaving us a FB message. People are odd, that's for sure. So glad you can see my photos!

That's great that they refunded your tickets! Sorry you won't be able to attend the party though. My gosh, I wouldn't wish that feeling on anyone! Your poor boys. No fun throwing up at Disney! Thank you regarding my Aunt Carol. She led a very full life, and made the best of her situation. I really admired her independence.

Day 4, November 1st, 2016- Part 2- A picture perfect day at Animal Kingdom!

After we were sure there would be no more bathroom emergencies, we hopped on the bus to our very favorite park, Animal Kingdom. I use to think Epcot was my favorite, but Animal Kingdom seems to be nudging it out lately. I know there usually isn't a middle ground regarding this park, you either love it or hate it, and we're definitely in the love it camp. My brother and SIL always complained that the reason they don't like AK is because it is too hot because of all the greenery & foliage. :confused3 That totally confuses me. I actually think the greenery provides a lot of shade to cool off, but to each their own. We had a dinner reservation coming up at one of our fav restaurants, Yak & Yeti. It was only around 2pm when we arrived to the park, and our dinner reservation was at 5, so we had some time to kill. What does one do when you have three hours to kill, you ask? Why go on a safari, of course, and take lots of pretty pics!

I am not a drinker by any stretch of the imagination, and if I can taste the alcohol, I definitely won't drink it. This was absolutely delicious though.
Rickshaw Rickie - Skyy vodka, Cointreau orange liqueur, muddled oranges and limes, Sprite $9.99
enhance

We shared our meal today. We learned our lesson on past trips that our eyes are always too big for our stomachs. One of our favorites at Yak & Yeti!
Ahi Tuna Nachos for Two - sushi grade ahi, Asian slaw, crispy fried wontons, wasabi aioli, sweet soy glaze $14.99
enhance

Another Yak & Yeti fav!
Dragon Roll for Two - spicy tuna, avocado, topped with Dynamite crab, tempura crunch, sweet soy glaze $15.99

DH wanted some Wonton Soup - pork wontons, clear chicken broth and vegetables $5.49

And for some reason I was in the mood for House Fried Rice $11.49 This was plentiful & really good!

It had been a pretty long day, and we were getting tired, especially after our late night at MNSSHP the night before, so we decided to head back to our resort & chill out. Dusk was setting in rather quickly. It is November, after all.

It seemed later, but was only 7pm. The lobby was pretty much empty. Most people were probably still out at the parks.

So what's a girl to do when it's too early to go to bed? Shopping, of course!
