How much cash should we bring to Hong Kong, Shanghai & Tokyo?

We are leaving soon to spend 2 days at Hong Kong Disneyland, 2 days at Shanghai Disneyland, and 4 days at the Tokyo resorts. How much cash should we bring per person for each resort? I have one credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees, but I don't want to get caught off guard without any country-appropriate cash.

Food carts in Shanghai and Hong Kong Disneyland don't take credit cards so you'll want around 50 RMB/HKD per snack that you plan to have. Restaurants and shops take credit cards. Tokyo Disney takes credit cards almost everywhere so after the monorail ticket, it's pretty easy to survive with zero cash.

The amount of cash necessary outside the resort will vary dramatically depending on what you plan to do. Just plan to have enough cash to cover all your food/transportation in all three cities just in case they don't take card. Taxis in Shanghai will sometimes try to rip you off so plan to spend a hundred or two RMB per taxi trip in case your driver refuses to use the meter.

We didn't have any problem finding/using cards or ATMs at Disney in either HK or Shanghai. We haven't been to TDR yet but have been to Tokyo itself, where ATMs are plentiful. The only time we had any issue finding an ATM/getting enough cash was at Pudong airport, oddly enough! We were trying to buy our metro tickets and didn't have any local cash because we assumed we'd get some at the first ATM we saw. Keep in mind that there are ATMs in every park in case you need to pull some cash out. Locations vary, but at the very least right outside the park gates, somewhere on Main Street (or equivalent entry land), and each of the hotels will have an ATM, plus a few other places (Explorer's Club in HK, first aid in Tomorrowland in Shanghai). In general, drink and snack carts are the only place you can't use cards, and how much you expect to spend there will vary depending on the size of your party and traveling preferences.
