And it was awesome. Used it to communicate both on the ship and with family and friends at home. Sorry if this is old news but it was a great surprise to me!

I hope they are doing the same on the Dream in a few weeks!

I am sailing on the Wonder in February. Fingers crossed that this is a success and it’s offered on all ships by then.

Hopefully, DCL won’t try to monetize, and will follow the airline model - free texting, but still charging for full-blown internet access.

The chat functionality on the DCL app is ... unimpressive, to say the least.

It worked on the Magic last summer but not in March. I hope it is working on the Fantasy this summer.

Just imessage? So only iphones? Can someone clarify? We have galaxy phones and are very happy with them (we can "facetime" using google duo) and aren't up for new phones for a year, but if you can really message home I would switch for our 7 night next June.

Apple only? We are Samsung galaxy people also, so hopefully they are doing something with Android SMS.

I've found places are about 50/50 on if messaging on the Galaxy series works when iMessage does for free. That being said you can send a lot of messages over WiFi with 50-100mb.

I don't know how it works on Android, but iMessage only requires a Wi-fi connection and not a cellular connection. Does Android SMS require cellular service? If so, then it would be a no-go.

Imessage as in the apple service?

Yes.

It just mentioned iMessage. Who knows what the future will bring. Ginger Pilot had a suggestion.

The info regarding this was in the WiFi/internet info sheet you can pick up by the wifi desk on deck 3 and it said only iMessage and so only iPhone to iPhone. I was able to message my kids at home and my husband on the ship. We didn’t really use the navigator app to communicate. I was on the Fantasy as well.

Verizon Message+ will work on wifi or cellular.

They were working on it back in April - and post-cruise survey mentioned it as well. On our sailing, my wife's iPhone was getting all notifications via the ship's WiFi, but mine did not - so it wasn't yet 100% functional back then.

When we went on the Wonder in March 2016 we had iMessages for free. It’s nice to read we might be able to use it again during our next cruise on the Fantasy!

Oh that’s awesome!! I thought it was just messaging with the app that could be done. Not iMessages to land!
