July 4th?

Hi, any info on July 4th please. With it being a special date we were wandering if they do anything different for the day and also do the shops (stores) shut? Are there extra celebrations? Thanks Beady.

Hi Beady,

I was there last 4th of July. We avoided the parks that day. We were warned in advance to do so because all the locals celebrate at the parks and it's heaving.
So we made that a pool and shopping day. All the shops were open and didn't seem too busy.

Hi Beady,

We've been in Orlando several times on 4th July and once we were in Sarasota and during the day we shopped at a mall (can't remember which one as there are several good ones down there around Bradenton/Sarasota). Anyway because it is 4th July they give extra discount at the cash desk which was great. That night we went to a bridge at Sarasota where all the locals went to for fireworks but unfortunately it rained so they were cancelled.

One year we asked at our resort where to go and they advised us to go to Lake Toho in downtown Kissimmee for a traditional old-fashioned 4th July celebration. This was ok however again a thunderstorm took over and at the particular time we were in a marquee and very scared. When it finished we just went straight to our car and back to our resort.
This event has stalls where the locals sell handmade crafts, there is a water-skiing show on the lake and people also do dance acts etc.

This year we hope to go to Celebration as I believe they put on a parade etc for 4th July - just hope the residents don't mind us tourists being there. We love to go to Celebration each year just to look at the show-houses and dream which one we could afford if we won the lottery. There are also nice shops to browse around and several places to eat.
