Las Vegas hotel reviews

I'm drawing a blank on this and hope someone can tell me...

What is the name of the new hotel where the Alladin used to be? I think it's next to Paris now. It was under construction when I was there about a year ago, although the casino was open.

It's now called Planet Hollywood. I stayed there when it was Alladin, and while I really liked the hotel and casino and shopping, it was a bit of a hike both up to the center strip area, and down to the MGM/NYNY area.

Thanks all-I went with the Mirage.

Hi

We have booked New York New York for a two night stay, but want to book a single night to follow our mini road trip around the NPs.

Which hotel has the nicest rooms? We won't be spending time in the casino or spa, just want a night of absolute bliss. As we are from Ireland, rooms that lean heavily towards European styles are less appealing as we can do that anytime.

We'd like a room we'll remember - the kind of room you'd have in your home if you won the lottery! But bear in mind we haven't won the lottery so no suggestions for presidental suites :goodvibes

Main criteria:
Spacious room with huge comfortable bed
Bath with room for two
Classy, tasteful decor (no chintzy girly prints)
Very clean

Minor criteria:
Bathroom mirror that doesn't steam up
Good light in bathroom
Gadgets

Don't worry about budget, we'd like to draw up a shortlist and then see which ones come up in special offers.

We're (regrettably) no longer young and beautiful, so probably don't want to be somewhere packed full of wannabes and party people.

TIA

haven't stayed there, but my #1 vote would probably go to the Wynn.

go to all the hotels websites and look at the room pictures to get a feel for decor and such. Don't forget the luxury towers many places are adding on, these are supposed to be a step up from the main hotel.

have fun!

Thanks guys - anyone any info on bath sizes?:boat:

Have been trawling through the sites, but websites make almost everywhere look lovely. For example, before booking New York New York, I was considering Luxor, but quite a few forum entries said the rooms in the pyramid were getting shabby - which certainly isn't going to show up in the web pics. Anyone stayed in a room they were reluctant to leave?

you an also check out www.ratelv.com and that has a ton of people reviews on it ( its not a message board, just a review site)

CAESAR's get's my vote- we've stayed there many times, rooms are very luxurious - even had a television inside the mirror in the bathroom. Love the 2 baths w/2 showers that meet in the middle (It's almost like a room in themselves), Forum shops are right there..... if $$ in no object stay there.

My DH and I always stay at "The Hotel" at Mandalay Bay, stayed there more times than I can count. We will NEVER stay anyplace else:love: , and we have tried almost every casino ! Right now they are having specials all summer, as they are usually very expensive because they are all suites.

The tub is amazing,:cloud9: the water comes out like a waterfall and it fits 2!:lovestruc The beds are great and there is even a flat screen tv in the bathroom. It is a very modern hotel, but it is connected to the original Mandalay Bay and if you love a carribean vibe you will love this place. The pool is THE BEST in Vegas and worth staying there just for that. Also the cafe is really very good and the clubs are some of the best. You could technically never leave and have a great time! FYI- Luxor was beeing refurb and it may be under construction - pool and rooms - they are changing the theme away from the "egyptianess".Hope I said that right:confused3

You may here complaints that Mandalay Bay is so far from everything, but keep in mind that there is a tram that goes to the Luxor and then to the Excalibur. That is the corner which has the NYNY and MGM Grand.
No matter where you stay - there will be walking - almost worse than WDW! It's so funny to here people say "Look - we can walk to XYZ casino - it's right here!" because the sign is so gigantic it makes it look like it is "right here" :faint: -:rotfl2:

Everyone has very different opinions!

A dozen trips...not quite so many hotels.

Sahara...cheap, too far away, has recently been redone.

TI...LOVE this hotel. as far north as I prefer. lovely redone rooms. Isla MX restaurant is new fav--great ambiance, great well-priced food, fab mojitos; love this tiny poker room

Mirage...loved this hotel--pool, casino, location. Do not like the renovations of the interior now.

Ballys...always a fav. huge rooms, perfect location. north tower redone; short walk from roomto strip

MGM...nice hotel, but the location of the rooms is LONG walk thru a huge casino to the strip; as far south as I would like, for the most part

Excalibur...eh, OK. room felt like a dungeon (definite theming here); again too far south, but cheap

Mandalay Bay...My FAV hotel in Vegas...but price & location are bummers. Ballys usually wins for these reasons

Fitzgeralds...YUK; room smelled like sour milk

Golden Nugget...nice; feels like strip hotel; but weird that MIL booked 3 rooms online, and we ended up w/ three entirely different rooms! (size/view/ redone or not)

Personally I like the strip; DT is good for one day

I can only talk about one Vegas hotel, one which I didn't choose and didn't pay for -- but for free it was okay:

The Riviera

Low cost
On the strip, but waaaaay at the end (across from Circus Circus)
Rooms are clean, but very basic -- rooms look just like a Motel 6
No view
Plain little rectangle pool (but you'll have it to yourself)
Very quiet, especially in the newer building all the way at the back
Burger King and a coffee shop
Bus stop located across the street

If you're looking JUST at cost, it's not a bad choice. If you want something special, keep looking.

Anyone been to Excalibur since the pool renovation? Any info or opinions?

We're staying there for one night when we arrive in Vegas for our Mega-Grand Canyon-Zion-Bryce-LA-PCH-SF-Yosemite-Sequoia-Death Valley Trip in August!

The theming looked great for the kids (8 and 10) and it was dirt cheap, and we definitely don't need 4-star accommodations!

Good lord - and I thought my trips got out of control!!! How long will you be gone? We're thinking of doing a shorter version next summer. I was thinking of flying into Phoenix, and staying 2 nights in each of these - Sedona, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bryce, Zion, and then ending and flying out of Las Vegas. One thing I'm not sure about - how much time do we need in Zion and Bryce. We're not the type to look out the window and keep driving. We like to hike, horseback ride, etc. Any thoughts?

The Wynn in supposed to be fabulous! Samantha Brown (Travel Channel) just did a Las Vegas show, and she stayed there. My husband didn't stay there, but knew others who did. They said it was great!

Hi Everyone! :wave2: Just wanted to leave an impression of our latest trip to LV last weekend. We live in Northern AZ so our trips to Vegas only take about 3 hours or so. :drive: We go about 2 or 3 times a year and try to stay at the Paris when they have some uber special under $100. :thumbsup2 This time we were meeting our very close friends from England who were staying at the Luxor on a package tour holiday. We decided to stay there to be close to them. After reading other reviews online, we were not expecting much at the Luxor and were not disappointed. It's an MGM property and for some reason we have not had much luck at anything MGM has (other than Bellagio). Something has most always gone wrong or gotten mucked up and their customer service is nonexistent. We arrived around 9:00 pm Thursday night and thought that since it was later the check in would be quick. Not at all. Long line, not enough windows open but lots of "suits" lingering around staring off into space.
One thing we had not encountered in all of our past travels was a policy where the hotel "precharges" your credit card "in case you use room service or charge anything to your room." :confused3 We were NOT happy to have the choice taken away from us and consequently did not buy anything at the hotel that was charged to our room. We generally enjoy room service breakfast on the day we leave but sacrificed it on this trip. We had read that the pyramid rooms can be noisy and smokey so we requested a tower room. After Miss Personality :snooty: had completed our check in and precharged our credit card, I asked if we had gotten our room request since she neglected to describe the room. She blandly replied that we had so I was at least relieved about that.
At this point, our eyes were beginning to sting from the cigarette smoke in the lobby. We have noticed that many of the other Vegas hotels must have better exhaust systems because we barely notice the smoke at the Paris, Bellagio, and Mandalay Bay. I personally feel like Vegas needs to join the rest of the civilized world and confine smoking to specific areas. :smokin: There is a short walk to the elevators for the tower but it wasn't bad at all and just about smoke free. The elevators were a bit irritating since most other hotels in Vegas have a security person at elevators checking for room cards.
At the Luxor, you use your room card before you push your floor button. Only problem is, it doesn't always work. Then you have to wait for someone else to enter the elevator and hope theirs works. Our room was good size, nicely decorated, king bed. The tile in the bathroom was disintegrating from the water that leaked from the shower. The grout around the bathtub was yellowed and missing in places so it made it look a bit tatty overall. Luxor is stingy with its toiletries being the smallest I have ever seen. The air conditioner worked well and made very little noise. The bed was satisfactory but not for more than two nights. It was not much better than any inexpensive motel 6 and looked like it as well since there was no bedskirt. Probably the most irritating feature of the Luxor is the continual stalking by the "TimeShare Vultures". They are located in areas where you must walk past so it is impossible to avoid them. :sad2: If that is not bad enough, your phone message light is continually blinking with "specials" the hotel feels it is imperative to inform you of. We finally unplugged the phone to avoid their nonsense. We ate in the cafe since it was so late and the food was very good although not much for the price. Be prepared to have a buttload of single bills if you use the valet and bellhop. It seems we ended up tipping 3 different people on check in and check out each of them making sure you know you will only being seeing them once. If we were younger and had packed lighter we probably would have saved a good $50. :scared: We liked that Luxor is connected by tram to Excalibur and Mandalay Bay but it is located a way from the main part of the strip. All in all, it was about what we had expected after reading the online reviews. We prefer the Paris or if the budget is tight the Gold Coast.

on my recent (sept 2008) trip to las vegas, we had free rooms at ceasar's palace, and due to the fact that they accidentally left us at the air port (they did send a limo back for us) they gave us an upgrade to a marvelous suite. the room was fantastic and had a large window looking out on the bellagio fountain. it was just beautiful. we did not win a thing but had a great time. i made a res for one night at the bellagio since it is my favorite. it was also free and just grand. my room view looked out over the beautiful gardens and pools. and i did have luck there. i always seem to have luck at the mgm properties, altho the only ones i have tried are the bellagio and the gold strike in miss. i just love those. we also spent a little time at the vennician and thought it was great. they have also sent me offers for free rooms which i may use some time. :thumbsup2

there are so many fun things to see at all of the las vegas resorts. just put on your walking shoes and go. ;)

I have travelled to Las Vegas often in recent years, for business and pleasure, and have stayed at:

Bellagio
Caesars
Luxor
MGM
Mirage
Monte Carlo
New York, New York
Paris
Rio
Treasure Island
Venetian

I'll be at Mandalay Bay next month.

My favorite to date has been last month's stay at Venetian, Club Level. It's really going to be hard to stay anyplace else after that. I've enjoyed a prior stay at Venetian, just love the location, but this was my first stay Club Level. The rooms were the same as the others in the Venezia Tower but the service was amazing. I enjoy having a separate living area in the suite with a nice dining table for my in-room breakfast. The Club Level offerings in the evenings were fantastic.

Least favorite has been Paris Paris.

Does anybody have any reviews (good or bad) about the Bellagio?

Also, what's the difference between a lakeview and partial lakeview? Would the partial lakeview still face the strip?

Anybody know if they offer non-smoking rooms or floors?

Thanks,

-- Hulamom

Hi, thought I would let you know what we decided and how it worked out - since quite a few of you were good enough to offer advice.

We picked New York New York for our first two nights, mainly because it didn't have a European theme, and also because it was the cheapest four star hotel on the strip at the time we booked.

Let's just say I wouldn't stay there again. It wasn't bad really, but it just didn't impress me at all. We didn't get the king bed we asked for - they said they didn't differentiate between queen and king bed rooms at check-in! The wallpaper behind the curtain was falling off and had mould behind it. There was no fridge or minibar. The public areas of the hotel were fun and reasonably lively. We were distinctly unimpressed with the food. For example, our breakfast at Il Fornaio was lukewarm. Enjoyed the roller coaster though.

For our third night (after our wonderful road trip), we picked the Signature at MGM Grand. This was more expensive but I felt it was worth the extra money. Yes, it was a long long way to the strip (we timed it at 12 minutes walking from the Signature foyer). We had breakfast in the cafe in Tower 2 and it was yummy, with very good service. The room was equipped with everything we could think of and more (although the room we had didn't have a bath you could have laid down on the shower floor it was so big). One slight down point was that the excellent gym (water, iced towels etc provided) didn't have a changing room, so you had to walk through the hotel looking like you'd just taken a shower in your clothes!

On a separate point (mentioned by an earlier poster) the Signature is completely smokefree, which was a welcome experience as we found the wafts of smoke, especially from cigars, quite unpleasant and pretty frequent.

We didn't gamble at all, but we would definitely go back to LV for a short visit in the future - we didn't find the walking a problem at all (in fact I bought monorail tickets and didn't use them because we just seemed to get to the next interesting place so quickly it didn't seem worth it).

So for the next visit, which probably won't be for a couple of years, we think maybe we'll try either the Wynn or the Mandalay Bay (or just go back to the Sig).
Ciao

the bellagio is my personal favorite hotel and my favorite casino in las vegas.::yes::

even if you do not gamble, the casino has a very nice walkway thru the middle so that coming and going to your rooms is very easy and direct. the shops can be accessed from the hotel without going thru the casino.:)

it is also very beautiful and the rooms are lovely as well. i have never found anything distasteful about the bellagio!!!!! a+ overall.;)

ceasar's palace is also extremely nice, but very confusing to find your way around in.
