When life throws you lemons, make some lemonade.
Issac Newton discovered calculus and studied light spectrum when he was in quarantine during the great plague..

What type of businesses would be benefited or created as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic??

I would say Disney is probably very glad that Disney+ is launched and running prior to the pandemic.
Iger probably saw this coming therefore he shifted his focus to grow Disney+ while letting Chapek dealing with the mess as a result of the park closures.

i predict the casinos will benefit. they are salivating over people who are (a) experiencing cabin fever, (b) anticipating stimulus checks and (c) can put off paying their taxes for an additional 2 months. the ones near us are primed to start operation the minute they feel the time is right (sovereign land-they call the shots not the government).

I love casinos and the last thing I want to right now is going to a place where everyone touches the same thing that never gets cleaned!

Third party meal delivery and grocery delivery services: DoorDash, UberEats, Instacart. TaskRabbit to a much lesser degree.

right now its Digital Marketing, Social Media Management, IT, APP Development, Website Design and Development, Graphic Design, Website Hosting, Online Payments Facilities, Data Centres.

Basically any industry or job which is connected to or supports the internet.

The world has changed overnight, if a business is not Digifirst in its thinking and delivering of its services and products it will not weather this storm.

The geeks of the tech word, who many have dismissed and sidelined are now the ones holding the world economies together while the traditional industries, products and services are all shut down.

here they are advertising how they've spent the last couple of weeks of closure cleaning everything top to bottom (still not appealing to me either).

Yeah, not an issue here. Casinos = nonessential = closed for the duration.

here casinos can do whatever they want b/c they are exempt from and federal, state or local decree-they are voluntarily closed at this point but can reopen whenever they choose.

i have to wonder if some of our restaurants that previously only dabbled in to-go but are now entirely to go (with bsns. booming) may reevaluate their bsns. models. could be that they could stop w/brick and mortar location, cut down on staff and only do to go (esp. if they can convince the local government to continue to allow them to sell liquor to go).

agree, this is the future. People get upset that bricks and mortar stores shut down but the future is digital the future is food delivery apps, the future is take out and the restaurants that adapt will survive. If 80% of your revenue comes from food delivery Apps or ordering take out, why would a restaurant waste resources on a bricks and mortar location which only generates 20% of the overall revenue.

Yeah well if all that stuff was the be-all end-all of our future we wouldn't be complaining so hard about shelter at home and chomping at the bit to be able to go back out to restaurants and brick and mortar shopping.

On the contrary, I think all of this forced online-only drop off/pick up type stuff is going to make us appreciate the ability to go out and physically do these things even more.

Teletherapy and Telemedicine. It was already becoming a thing but I'm in school to be a therapist/counselor and our peer sessions are through internet methods, and I looked up the jobs and they are crazy right now...there is a huge need due to mental health during the pandemic.

Yes! Mental health services will increase for sure. Good thing there is less stigma.

I disagree. Restaurants that were primarily take-out before the forced shut-downs maybe; were there really very many of those - fast food notwithstanding? :confused3 For all others, customers will return in droves when it is allowed. At first because everybody is just so itchy to be out-and-about and eventually for the same reasons and with the same regularity as they always did. Dining out is a pleasure and a social activity.

IT companies that support businesses are doing well with the surge to get employees working from home. I heard this morning that HP is reporting very good numbers in the laptop/small printer area, also due to companies sending employees home.
