Loyd Have Mercy - Escape from Mos Eisley (to the Death Star) - Stick a fork in me, I think I am done.

Was that breakfast at Royal "whatever you call it on the Fantasy"? It looks like they totally changed up the menu! It had been the same menu since I got back to cruising in 2012 and they had it in August 2018. I'm curious if they changed menus fleetwide if it is changed.

Looks like you had a nice day in Georgetown. I can totally be on board with eating and more eating!

So was the menu at Enchanted Garden also the rotational menu? If so, that is totally changed too! I always ordered the Prime Rib, and I sort of had my apps that I liked too. Now I'm wondering about my upcoming cruise on the Wonder!

Sad that your entree order was totally wrong...at least if the fish had been hot and tasty, it might have made up for the goof!

I am sorry for being AWOL. I teach at a community college and one of our faculty members banged her head in August. She ended up with a concussion and I have taken several of her classes. We thought it would be for only a week or two but that has not been the case. We now know she will be out the entire semester. The normal teaching load at our school is four classes a semester, meaning I am at a 3/4 overload and while I enjoy what I do, this is kicking my tush in regards to any free time. I'll be back. ::yes::

I know how it feels. Take your time. We will be here. :goodvibes :flower3:

I started reading this last year but forgot to come back and comment! 😕

I love your paper towel holder and your Mickey plates 🥰

Beautiful treeeeees!! Thanks for taking a pic for me 🤩😍

I just love how you changed your door magnets out each day, so clever! 😎

So sorry that you didn’t have a great serving team, it can really make or break your cruise 😢

Not bringing the correct food out is kind of a no-brainer! 🙄 I only eat the beef dish at each meal so this would be terrible for me! 😬

Glad they gave you your private table though! 👍🏻

I may not have a second breakfast on my cruises but I always have second lunches 😂🤣

So funny that you took a SW cruise and you didn’t even know who Han Solo is bahahahaha:rotfl2:

You’re going to be thoroughly bored with my latest trip report 🤣😂

I hate to leave things unfinished and yet, this report has set idle too long. Later, I will make my excuses and tell you what has been happening the last, oh say, eight/nine months of my life but for now, let's get this baby moving. I also will reply to all of you who have hung with me and made comments.

Door art for today was one of my favorite characters.

IMG_6194 copy.jpg

The usual breakfast of coffee and cabanas. No pictures of cabanas, we had the usual oatmeal, fruit, bacon and hash browns. Also, grabbed a couple of fufu coffees from The Cove. I love the Star Wars theme. By the way, I finally broke down and rewatched the first Star Wars movie with Rob and Sarah, our daughter. (I saw it in 1977 with my ex-husband so it was a long, long time ago. Yea, I am old, at least chronology. Also married way too young.) My intention was to watch all of the Star Wars movies so I would learn the stories and characters but I am afraid that I was totally bored during the movie and ended up playing on my computer instead of watching. I will give it another try on maybe a later movie and see if I can focus and not be so ADD during the movie. Which one(s) should I watch?

IMG_6192 copy.jpg IMG_6193 copy.jpg

Today was Jamaica day. I have been fascinated with Jamaica since I was a young adult living in Seattle and would follow (not stalk) Rastafarians down the sidewalk. I loved the way they smelled, a mixture of ganja and patchouli (what can I say, I am a product of the sixties...).

Sailing into port we saw this:

JFAL 1.jpg

J. Falmouth.jpg

And this:

J fal 2.jpg

The weather was warm and humid but felt great! Also, it smelled great, not of ganja and patchouli but of flowers and the sea.

People coming into the "secure" area to work.

20190306_005Working.jpg

Setting up the "Craft market". We did not actually make it into the craft market but did do a bit a shopping elsewhere. I will post our purchases later.

20190306_016CraftMrkt.jpg

Finally, off the boat for adventures. Today's plan was to do a bit of shopping, pick up something from Jamaica for Sarah who was at school and not with us, a bit of Rum and Beer, for us, not Sarah...and so forth.

IMG_6256 copy.jpg

We also had a "Disney" excursion planned for this day. We like to visit old houses, we have owned several old houses that we have restored (not renovated but taken them back to their original glory) so today's excursion was geared towards our love of old houses, a tour and lunch at the Good Hope Great House and Plantation Tour. Stay tuned for a recap of the tour and lunch.

I will try to be back tomorrow to continue on with our adventure.

After breakfast, we headed off ship for a bit of shopping. The time to meet for our excursion was not for a couple of hours so we though we would knock around the "secure area" and see what we could find.

We hit up the duty free shop for some rum and beer. Probably should have bought some Absolute Citron to use in Citron Martini's but did not... hindsight.

IMG_6204 copy.jpg

We had to check the rum until the end of the cruise. No biggie since it was to carry home with us.

IMG_7475 copy.jpg

The rum made it home safely. I do not drink rum (unless it is in a fufu drink) so I have no idea if it was good or not.

IMG_7593 copy.jpg

We also picked up beer for Rob to enjoy on the ship. I don't drink beer either.... (but I do love my wine:worship: ).

IMG_6468 copy beer.jpg

Later in the day...

IMG_6458 2 copy.jpg

I found the sayings on the cartons of cigarettes interesting - and true.

IMG_6222 copy.jpg

We also picked up this hat for Sarah. When we walked by the shop the first time, the owner told me $8.00, when we came back, we were told $12.00. I reminded him of our earlier conversation and he sold it to me for $8.00.

IMG_6237 copy.jpg

Rob also bought a shirt. It has been washed several times now and has held up very well. Seams are doubled stitched and everything.

IMG_6239 copy.jpg

Price was also very reasonable.

IMG_6462shirt cost.jpg

I am sure it will be awhile, but we both look forward to going back to Jamaica.

After shopping a bit, we headed back on the ship to drop off our items and prepare for our excursion.

18th Century Great House and Plantation Tour, FA17,
"Tour a historic manor on a 2,000-acre estate and enjoy a tasty jerk barbeque lunch."
$64. ages $10 and up; $51, ages 3 to 9. Activity Level was listed as moderate. There were steps to climb to enter the house but other than that, it was not strenuous at all.

I am on dinner duty tonight. I will try to post again tomorrow.

Our tour included a late lunch, so we decided to grab a snack to share before meeting up with our Donald Duck tour group. One of us needs to eat on schedule or we have a drop in sugar and become very cranky. :rolleyes1

Pizza sounded good but we passed on the pizza. Love Disney's pizza slices.

486930

A burger sounded good but we passed on the burger also.

486931

We ended up with our favorite that we never eat unless we are on a cruise. Disney's chicken tenders are awesome regardless of whether you grab them from the pool deck area or room service. I could eat an order every day and not regret it at all (until I got home and stood on the scales).

486933

At the appointed time we met the rest of our tour folks and donned our Donald stickers which gave us access to the bus. .... I keep trying to figure out what the background is since it is not something of ours. Maybe it belonged to someone we were sitting with???

486935

There was a slight hiccup at this time as one family was absent, and we were waiting on the family. We did not have to wait long before the mother came in and said they could not find one of their Key to the World cards (Disney ID & room card). No worries, she was told to tell her family to come on down, she was to go to guest services and they would create another key card for her. She was apologetic but seriously, it could happen to anyone and it was handled well and created no problem for our tour. From this I learned that if you lose your KTTWC that it is no biggie, just go to guest services to have another one made.

486938

Once we were all accounted for we followed our guide out to our colorful bus and head to the Good Hope Great House which was about 30-40 minutes from the port.

6 bus.jpg

I enjoyed the bus ride as it gave us a glance of local life. The following two photos were taken from a moving bus with a not so good camera...

486942

I cannot imagine carrying something on my head but then I broke my neck (seriously) when I was a teen so have always been a bit protective with my neck muscles.

A BBQ & bar beside the road. I bet they have great BBQ, maybe even as good as Memphis BBQ.

486943

I will continue tomorrow with our ride to the Great House as I am at my limit on photos and it is "the cocktail hour".

Smiles all!

Looks like you had a nice day in Georgetown. I can totally be on board with eating and more eating!

We did enjoy Georgetown. I would like to go back and spend even more time looking around exploring.

Sad that your entree order was totally wrong...at least if the fish had been hot and tasty, it might have made up for the goof!

I am not the biggest fish fan anyway (unless it is fried with lots of cajun spices) so for it to be cold was just disgusting. I keep trying to eat and enjoy baked/broiled fish dishes but .... :sad2:

Following along. I love your trip reports.

Hi there CaseyJo, I hope you are still around. It certainly did take me a long time to get back to the report.

Ugh.. I registered just to read these trip reports and I've caught up!!!

Here we go again. I hope you found other reports to read during my sabbatical (was not really a sabbatical but my absence was work related).

Welcome to the DIS!
:welcome:

Agree with PurplePencil, Welcome!

I know how it feels. Take your time. We will be here. :goodvibes :flower3:

How are you guys doing? Are you teaching from home?

I love your paper towel holder and your Mickey plates 🥰

Beautiful treeeeees!! Thanks for taking a pic for me 🤩😍

Thanks! Our daughter thinks we overdo the Disney stuff but she never turns down a trip to DisneyWorld...
I love trees also! In fact, that tends to be my mother's day and birthday presents most years. Rob has planted many a tree for me. Flowering trees, fruit trees, evergreen trees....

So sorry that you didn’t have a great serving team, it can really make or break your cruise 😢

Not bringing the correct food out is kind of a no-brainer! 🙄 I only eat the beef dish at each meal so this would be terrible for me! 😬

Glad they gave you your private table though! 👍🏻

You’re going to be thoroughly bored with my latest trip report 🤣😂

The serving team was really the pits, luckily though we normally do have great serving teams. I was a bit worried about not getting the private table. We would love to sit with others "if" we could chose them but to randomly be assigned to a table, not knowing if folks wear cologne, smoke... could be disastrous.

I think cruises are for second breakfasts and second lunches.

Sadly, I still do not know who Han Solo is (and I am sure Rob has told me), but I still like seeing the characters and their costumes.

I LOVE your trip reports and am not bored at all. Heck, I probably have increased my Star Wars knowledge just by reading your reports.

I just found your report and am enjoying it! As you know, we were on the Fantasy the month after you but on the other side of the Caribbean. I loved the Fantasy, but like you, we had some not great servers as well. Still didn't detract from our cruise experience, but I think if you have amazing servers, it could really add to it…does that make sense?? Ha!

Too bad your tour in Mexico wasn't what you'd hoped for. I can see how it might be more fun doing that exploring on your own.

You trying to figure out the Star Wars stuff is too funny :rotfl: I remember seeing it in theaters way back when and at the time my brother was obsessed. Years and years later, my DS got obsessed and still really loves SW. I can take it or leave it, personally, but I know a lot about it from being around it for so many years. And still, I wouldn't want to do a SWDAS cruise…I had a cruise booked for next February and ended up changing it to March after they announced it was going to be a SWDAS. I just want my cruise to be a cruise and nothing else:-)

amazing servers

Amazing servers can really add to the experience. On our second cruise, we had Yussef and Harry. They were totally awesome. We have not seen Yussef since that cruise but Harry is now in Palo. I am sure he does not "really" remember us but he always goes out of his way to talk with us. Makes us feel very special. No picture of Yussef but here is Harry and Nikola, both great Palo servers.

491469

SWDAS cruise

I really was not expecting to enjoy it but I did. It was like halloween, so much fun watching the wee ones enjoy the characters.

A random house we passed while in route to the Good Hope Estate.

491357

The entrance. Apparently there is a lot to do here, zip lining and such but our Disney sponsored excursion only included a tour of the house and grounds and lunch afterwards. More info here: https://chukka.com/destination-gallery/good-hope/

491358

This view is to die for. If I lived here I would probably never want to leave.

491360

Of course, part of the beauty of the view is the landscaping. I believe we were told this was an olive tree but I could be wrong.

491361

More of the grounds.

491362

Still more ground photos.

491363

The local wildlife.

491365

Once we were all off the bus, we were given a few minutes to walk about and were to meet under this tree where our guides were waiting.

491375

The Good Hope Estate was in the 1700s a working village and sugar plantation. The Great House was built in 1755 by Thomas Williams as the dream house for his wife Elizabeth Baker Williams. Elizabeth died of malaria seven years later at the age of 24. From my math, I would say that Thomas married a very young Elizabeth. Elizabeth is buried under the first floor of the house. Talk about ghosts inhibiting a house, most houses are not home to the bones of their inhabitants.

491370

More information here: http://jamaicagreathouses.com/goodhope/

491369

This house was built during the Georgian Period characterized by symmetrical proportions, hip roofs (to stand up to hurricanes), sash windows and louvered shutters (to let in the breeze) and shaded verandas. All designed to keep the house and it occupants cool.

I loved this tour and the lunch. My complaint, like our previous tour, it felt rushed. I want to come back but not as part of a regular cruise tour group. One more complaint about a certain family but I will discuss that later.

491391

The floors and shutters were beautiful. The house used a lot of wild orange wood that is native to Jamaica.

491404

Our tour guide was friendly and seemed to enjoy his role.

491392

I loved the way these chairs looked but I do not think they would be very comfortable. I really liked the rooms were not roped off and you could actually get close enough to see details.

491405

A peak out of one of the windows. No glass in the windows, just shutters.

491393

We were told that most of the furniture (maybe all) was not original to the house but was chosen to fit the timeframe they were depicting. In an 1804 inventory of the house, it was listed that there were nine bedrooms, now there are three. I wonder what happened to the other six bedrooms.

491394

There were no bathrooms in the original house so folks would be dependent upon a portable commode chair, pitcher and basin. I am pretty sure there was a piece of wood that goes over the chamber pot when not in use. Something to make it look like a real chair.

491395

As I alluded to earlier, young Elizabeth died here and was buried under the first floor of the house.

491399

Here is where Elizabeth is buried. Under the slab next to our tour guide.

491402

Elizabeth's stone.

In 1767 The Good Hope Great House was sold to John Tharp (age 23). Later in life, John Tharp's suffered from rheumatism and had a bathtub installed at Good Hope. The bathtub was coated with lead. I have a feeling this was not a good thing.

491424

As you can see, there is even a shower but I suspect it was later added...

491425

And a sink.

491426

Leaving the house, I turned around to snap this photo showing the house from one side to the other.

491430

I seriously wish I had this view from my office.

491431

As our tour continued we were escorted outside to "The Counting House", where our tour guide explained that counting money inside one's house was believed to bring bad luck so Richard Tharp had a counting house built steps from the main house.

491421

We were not escorted inside the counting house. I wish we were given a tour but oh well, at least we saw the outside of it.

491429

Next up, lunch, which was very welcome as I was becoming very hungry.

The plantation had an outdoor kitchen that we passed on the way to our outdoor eating area. The kitchen was the only room where I saw screens over the windows and it was in use as our lunch was being prepared.

491432

There were several tables sitting about with four to six chairs at each table. We sat with another pleasant couple from, I do not remember, but they were enjoyable table mates. Once everyone was seated, we were escorted table by table to the buffet.

491433

The food was awesome and (we thought) plentiful. Until one family of five walked through and loaded up everything that was sweet or fried on to their plates, leaving empty platters for the rest of us.

491434

The wait staff had shocked looks on their faces when this happened and after quick whispering, ran back to the kitchen to restock what they could.

Last edited:
Even with empty platters, we managed to have enough great food items but I was sad about not being able to try the plantain fritters or the sweet bread.

491446

I think I was overheard by one of the wait staff because before long this was brought out to me and the others at our table.

491448

After lunch we were given a few minutes to walk about before returning to the bus.

491450

I have a feeling these statues were not original to the house but I still enjoyed seeing them.

491451

After we returned to the ship, we cleaned up a bit and got ready for a DVC members gathering, this was not the same thing as the promotion to sell DVC but something you had to sign up for in order to attend. We have been on seven cruises and this was the only time I have experienced this. It was fun and promoted as a chance to get to know other DVC members.

491452

Sorry for the lighting, it was dim in the lounge. Drinks were plentiful and a good variety, more-so than the morning DVC sales promotion where you are given some red drink (like the one in the below photo). I don't like red drinks, except for red wine. I wish they would go back to the days of offering a glass of Prosecco.

491453

After our full day of touring and DVC drinking, we decided to skip the MDR and incompetent waiters and order in room service.

Disboards is being cranky and not allowing me to add any more photos even though I am below my limit so I will stop here for now and add in our dinner photos later.

Let's see if Disboards has stopped being cranky and let me finish day five of our cruise.

We ordered in room service and watched the movie Coco. Neither of us had seen it and we both enjoyed it a lot.

We shared a Chicken Caesar Salad. It was very good. Cold and fresh.

491635

We also shared a Margherita Pizza. Yummmmm!!!!! Also very good, hot as it should have been.

491636

We also shared a sandwich. Can't go wrong with a BLT. No complaints here either, also very good.

491637

As most of you know, room service is included in the price of your cruise except for tipping the CM who brings your food and for a few specialty items. I am going to try to post the menu from our cruise.

From this page, my favorite is the "All Hands on Deck", we always order this the first day with extra crackers and bring a few ziplock bags to store our leftovers in for later. I am also a fan of the Caesar Salad. We have not tried the other two salads.

491642

We also tend to order the fruit bowl at least once during a cruise. We have not tried the other items but maybe one of you guys have and can weigh in on if they are good or not?

491644

We did not this cruise but in the past have order the Chicken Tenders and they were GREAT! I use an old family recipe for Mac and Cheese (pie) which has spoiled me and the rest of my family for Mac & cheese so will not order it out. Someday, I will order the hot dog.

491645

I was not a fan of the "buffalo" chicken wings but some folks rave about them. I think I was expecting BBQ wings and not hot wings. Some hot spices will trigger an asthma attack in me so .... Love DCL pizzas.

491649

The BLTs are good.

491650

I am not a desert person so cannot really weigh in on too much here. The Key Lime Pie was ok, I am not sure we have tried the cookies. If you will notice the last item, it is an extra charge. Be wise, bring your own bagged candy from home. It is a lot cheaper than what DCL charges.

491651

I believe you can also order the cake of the day, just ask for it. AND you can order MICKEY ICE CREAM BARS from room service for no extra charge.

Last edited:
Continuing on with the room service menu.

These items cost extra. Be aware if you tell your kids to order room service.
491652

You can order adult beverages - or bring on your own...

491653

You can also order specialty non-alcoholic drinks - for an additional cost.

491654

These are also an extra cost. If you collect your pop from one of the drink machines or order it at dinner, it is included in your cruise cost but if you order a can of pop - DCL charges extra. You may bring on as much canned pop as you please but it has to come on with you in your carry on, not in your checked suitcase. Also, maybe this is just me, but there is no reason to buy bottled water, bring on a reusable water bottle. The water on the ship tastes like "water".

491655

Tomorrow is our sixth day on the cruise, a very special day indeed. Star Wars and Palo! Stay tuned.
