I'm in :wave2:,

Loving the little emoji's you put with our days of the week :D

I am Sam joining in from Australia. This month my goals need to be about activity :dancer:. I feel I should be able to maintain the changes in water consumption I have made since January. I will still need to be mindful of sticking to my Keto eating plans though. But now I really need to up the movement and strengthening in my days.

Goal 1: to move from 1 day of walking to 2
Goal 2: to do some strength training 2 days per week.

I am in. I am Stephanie. I live in Northeast Ohio. We are still cold but hopefully by the end of the month it will be warmer. I have been married for 14 years and have a 12 year old DS (eek 13 in a month) and an 11 year old DD. They keep me very busy with all of their activities. DS is playing soccer and running track this spring and DD will be playing soccer though right now basketball is not over. The tournament starts this weekend so at least with DD this will be her last weekend. They have lost all of there games so we are not expecting them to make past the first round. DS lost a lot of games but only by like 1 point so we will see how they do.

This month I have several goals but one main goal.

  • Track my food and stay at or below 1,200 calories (main goal)
  • Continue to drink 20 oz of water a day and try to up the amount 30 as much as possible
  • Work out each day. The days I can get to the rec i will walk on the treadmill other days I will do a Nike workout video game on the XBOX
  • Get an average of 45 minutes of activity a day according to my fitbit.

I’m in! I’m sjrec from south central PA-and it snowed again last night. Sigh. Hurry up, spring!

I am retired after working 20 years in our local HS
library and as much as I loved my job, I love being home. My 8 year old grandson is the joy of my life and a big motivation for staying healthy and active. My husband is a big supporter and partner in this.

My biggest issue is not to gain weight over these cold winter months. Helping with that would to be more active. So I need to get out at least every other day. I also have a plan from my sessions with a trainer for things to do at home. I still haven’t checked out the local Anytime Fitness Center by us, so that’s on my to do list for next week.

Looking forward to chatting with everyone!

:welcome: Everyone!

I'm noticing that people are putting a lot of specifics in their goals - like numbers and deadlines - and I think that's great!! It really makes the goals measurable and (I think) easier to stick to than vague ones.

This is not a happy house today ... I am living with 3 teenagers!!! DD15 (last month) seemed to get a whole fresh batch of hormones and ATTITUDE :sad2::sad: There will be a family discussion this afternoon - some changes need to happen around here and gaming is the top of my list >:( DD and I are typically super close and these changes are difficult at the moment.

On a more positive note I have been sitting here writing my shopping list so that I can get organised for the week ahead. The weather can't decide what to do here at the moment - earlier this morning we had rain, grey cloudy skies and right now I can see some sunshine on my little courtyard outside. I just read Magnolia the Chip and Joanna story - a few things stuck a cord with me - firstly even though they are on TV they have NEVER had one in their home since they were married! Now I am not throwing my TV away - but as per the previous gaming frustration and our TV habits - I think too many opportunities for activity and doing other things is being overtaken by screens. Secondly - she talked about having an epiphany herself about needing to 'thrive' no matter how bad things are as if you are just feeling like you are 'surviving' it is easy to get swept away and find yourself drowning. I am trying really hard to find the 'thrive' in my day today - I am really close to feeling like getting swept away in the over-whelmingness (I think I am making up words now) of solo parenting today.

I have something to look forward to tonight, though. My walking friend and I are having movie night at her house - neither of us as seen 'A Star Is Born' so we are having dinner and movie (I know more screen time lol) - but hoping some grown up time with another solo mum and the chats will help me sort through my feelings today.

Oh and I have decided to have a wall hanging herb garden - now that my new recipes are asking for different fresh herbs - it seems more practical than buying it as I go from the supermarket. So some gardening is on the horizon this weekend as well.

I'm in! I'm Cristin from southeastern PA (@sjrec we also got snow last night...another 2 hour delay today). I'm a 42-year-old kindergarten teacher, married with twin boy/girl teenagers (14 years old). I've been making great progress so far this year and hope to continue it this month.

March Goals:
*continue daily workout routine, but bump up the weights
*Meet 12,000 daily steps goal on Fitbit at least 5 out of 7 days per week
*continue "walking to Disney" with the goal of making 1048 miles by July Disney trip (Walked 288 miles so far in Jan-Feb)
*meal plan for the week with one new healthy recipe each week
*lose 5 pounds this month

Looking forward to another great month with all of you!!

Hang in there! You have the right mindset...needing to thrive when you feel yourself drowning. I often feel the same way with my 2 (can't imagine 3!) teenagers and their attitudes. And it usually has something to do with screens (video games, phones, tv). We live in such a technology driven world, and it can be great at times. But when it seems to be running their lives, it can be very scary! I think you've just given me my next book to read...but it might not be until summer. I love to read while sitting in my backyard or on the beach. But that seems so far away...as we now have more snow coming tonight and then again Sunday night into Monday :worried:

I hear you! I have an 18-year-old and thought I lucked out and "escaped" the teenage drama phase. It turns out he just saved up the years 14-17 to go through everything at once.

*meal plan for the week with one new healthy recipe each week

Welcome!! It looks like we have a recipe goal in common this month.

My sympathies to those of you living with teenagers! I remember those days too well!
Venting with friends in the same situation is good therapy and a reminder you’re not alone.

I like the idea of a new healthy recipe to try every week. Maybe if we have a success we can share them on Fridays?

Thanks for all that empathy about teens :-) We had a 'family meeting' yesterday and cleared the air about some things - I just have to decide how to handle weekend gaming mainly - they are already not aloud to game on a school night. I think I am going to do more of a 'no gaming until after 4 or 5 pm - which then gives us time in the day to clean house, get out of the house in an activity of some kind and connect then some gaming can happen. Obviously I have to align my tv watching in a similar way as well ...

Dinner, a wine, a chat, a movie and a cry last night was great - movie made me cry not the kids :-)

It is a bit rainy here again at the moment is 7.50am Sunday and birds are singing outside in the rain - it sounds nice. I am considering whether or not to drive about 45 minutes to Costco today or not - I am thinking it might be a more cost effective way of buying the nuts and a few other things that are featuring in my eating right now. Just not sure I want to spend the time in the car - and if I drive down there I feel like I should visit my sister - but then that will take more time.

First thing I want to do is go get my herb garden organised .... so I am off - to get ready and head out to do that while it is still earlyish and the rain and milder temperatures today can help them along the way :-)

I am happy to share my favourite meal from week on a Friday if everyone wants to give that a try :D

It does sound like that's the direction we're heading, so I've updated Post #1 to add "Foodie Friday" and bumped "Free-for-All Friday" to "Whatever Weekend" - since we kind of do that anyway :). (If it doesn't catch on, the next host can just bump it back!)

I'm definitely excited for some new recipes!

So glad you had a chance to talk things out! I struggle with the video game thing here too, but I think you have a good plan in simply delaying the start time. I find once DS gets playing, he's "gone down the rabbit hole" for the day, so anything important needs to be dealt with first.

And I agree, sometimes a good movie cry is exactly what you need!!

:-) Thanks - yes the rabbit hole is definitely the hard thing to fight. DD in the afternoon yesterday commented that the day seemed so long :rotfl:I commented that is because she had not been gaming - she doubted it - but her brothers actually backed me up and agreed and said yes it is - gaming is a big time-suck without you realising they actually admitted :rotfl2:

So - I got some good things done over the weekend. Herb garden is up on the fence  took all the kids for a walk on the beach yesterday afternoon - so I am already 1 walk for the week down  Meal plan for the week done and SHOPPED for

Feeling much more positive today :P

Mine are not teenagers yet but DS will be officially in 1 month and DD has the attitude of one though she is 11. Gaming is an issue with DS. We shut his internet off if we need him to do anything. He is very active in sports so that already regulate a lot of his time. Homework is more of the issue with him. In the summer we do kick DS and DD out of the house in the afternoons or on the weekend to go play with friends. Thankfully they don't fight this as of last summer.

This weekend was a busy one. DS had basketball practice on Friday night. Saturday DS had Karate and DD was supposed to have a make up riding lesson but they forgot to tell me it was cancelled. No biggie as we are only 11 minutes away from the barn. Then DD had her basketball game. It was a tournament and single elimination. No surprise here that they lost. They have lost all but there first game by a ton of points. Though this game they played better then they had all season. After DD's game we decided to get an early dinner at our favorite place since it was by DS's game. I ate fairly good as I had a grilled chicken sandwich. DS's game was good but the game before ended in the 3rd quarter because one team was losing it and at least 1 parent was escorted out. This is just a rec league so they kids should be having fun. It was really uncalled for. DS's team lost as well. It was close though. So basketball is over for the season. Track for DS starts on Monday and soccer for both will be in a few weeks.

Sunday was a shopping day. First was grocery shopping and then later DD and I went shopping for a care package for one of her Cheer Coaches from the fall. The coach is younger them me and has 4 kids with the youngest being 3. Last week she had a brain aneurysm and a stroke caused by an AVM (tangled up veins, capillaries and arteries). She is in ICU right now but off of a ventilator and talking. She is having surgery this morning to fix the AVM. So the cheer squad (who are all close, at least the parents are) are putting a care package together for the kids and gift cards for food to help them out. The kids are also making cards for the Coach. After shopping DS had a baseball clinic to go to.

We did have a great meal last night. I made a pork tenderloin. I only used salt and pepper to season it but we did wrap it with bacon. We only used the bacon because we had it left over from Christmas time and needed to use it. The flavor was really good. I also made rainbow carrots for the first time. I just roasted them in the oven with a little bit of sat and olive oil. Everyone loves them. We will be doing this more often. I also made smashed potatoes. you boil small red potatoes until soft, drain the water and place them on a cookie sheet. Then you smash them, brush them with olive oil and any seasoning you want. We just use salt and pepper. Then you roast them until they get a little crispy. They are so good. Writing this out I realize I ate a lot of salt in this meal. But it was good and the kids ate a ton of it.

Hello all, and Hello March!
I'm Lizanne, coming to you from Seattle. I'm in for another month, thank you @PollyannaMom for picking this up.

We had a lovely weekend of sunny weather, so refreshing and invigorating... for some people at least. I felt like I slept most of the weekend, I think partly from being tired from the 12 - 14 hour long work days last week and this morning I have a sore itchy throat, so I think some of the sleeping was because a cold is coming on. I'm grateful I was able to kick back and take it easy because rest is always the most effective cold treatment.

My word for March is going to be FOCUS... because oh boy do I need to. I'm pretty sure I know what happened in February and how to make the adjustment. For more concrete goals to focus on, I'll go with these basics:

... minimum 8 glasses of water per day
... lose 4 pounds
... average at least 8000 steps per day

I think I'll have to do some work travel again this month at some point, but I'm counting on having at least the next two weeks at home. I'll also take a Friday off at some point during the month, to head to my Sister's to be with her during her chemo appointment. It's a 45 minute drive from her little beach town to the town where the treatment center is, so she needs people to go with her.

I feel like I was barely at the beach week before last, and barely took any pictures, but here's one of the awesome clouds:

That's so nice of you all to do!

Sounds delicious! (I have a salt alternative I can use on the carrots, so I think I'll try that this week!)
