Hello,
We are going on our first RCCL cruise. It's leaving out of Port Canaveral in a few weeks, and we are wondering if anyone remembers the process at the port. I have passports and set sail pass. Do I need any other documentation?

Also, are there any tips for first time RCCL cruisers on this forum? Thanks!

We sailed on the Oasis out of Port Canaveral in December and I would expect the boarding requirements would be the same for the Majesty. All we needed was a photo ID, the printed documents, and IIRC my credit card.

RCL also asks you to print your luggage tags, but we never do that. You can show the baggage people the little diagram at the end of your printed out documents and they will fill out a luggage tag for you.

Thanks for the reply OKW, The only cruise document I have is the set sail pass. Is there another cruise document? We are very light travelers. I only have a carry on for such a short cruise, but thanks for the luggage tag tip. I'll remember that for a longer cruise.

Can I tag onto this post, with a question? We're sailing Majesty on Sept 8, for a three night. Are we going to need dressy clothes for one night? I would think a nice sundress would suffice based on other cruises, but just want to be sure. Thanks!

Diane, you'll find that the Majesty OTS is no more formal than the Disney ships.

I am going on the Sept 1 Majesty cruise. I have been researching too since this is also our first Royal cruise. Second night is formal night but I heard that pretty much a variety of dress will be seen but many folks don't get too dressy on such a short cruise. I will bring a dress and DH will have dress pants with button down and tie. I will do capris with top for the other two nights. DH will do khakis and polos.

I printed set sail pass and luggage tags. I will bring passports and CC and likely will pack us both in one suitcase that I will put luggage tag on. We are driving down and staying in hotel one night pre-cruise. I will pack backpack for that and leave in car during cruise. I pack toiletries in Vera Bradley hanging travel organizer so I can carry into hotel and then put in suitcase for cruise. I will pack a tote bag to carry on since I am bringing the allowed two bottles of wine.

Soooooo excited! Three weeks...

Just got back The captain brought us back in on Thursday a day early so that we could evacuate. The ship was acting strangely and I thought I would ask if anyone had this experience or may know what the problem was. We were in perfectly calm waters, smooth as glass, barely any wind at all. We were sailing up the Florida coast on the way home, and the ship began to roll side to side. It was enough to make people lose balance, grab hold of rails sometimes. It went on for a long time. I asked 2 officers standing near me why the ship was rolling. One said that it was because of the motion of the sea. I told him to look at the sea. It was perfectly calm. He said he didn't know why it was rolling. My husband thinks they were testing the stabilizers because they had to go out to sea to get away from the hurricane. That was a good guess. Does anyone else have an idea why the ship would be rolling on perfectly calm seas? It's a worry. I don't think I'll take Majesty of the seas again because of this.

Obviously I can't say for sure, but if they were trying to get back in a hurry they likely retracted the stabilizers. There is a maximum speed the ship can go with stabilizers engaged and they cause drag, if you want to go fast (say to beat a hurricane) then you pull them in.

Thanks! This makes sense to me. They were trying to get back quickly to allow us to get out of Florida quickly.

So anyway, the cruise on Majesty of The Seas was ok. We had low expectations. There wasn't much to do but we brought cards and borrowed their checkers chess, and scrabble games. The only games they had available. There were some drunk folks but they behaved themselves.
One entire side of the pool deck was designated for smoking. That may be a bad idea. The fumes carry over too much. There were cigar smokers and pipe smokers on board.
It was difficult to watch the outside movie screen, it was blocked by so many things, stair rails, umbrella's, poles, people. But, we did enjoy the movie anyway. They had Pirates of the Caribbean (Dead men tell no tales) and the Mummy. My husband said he would miss getting ice cream in a cup and watching a movie in the Buena Vista theater. So, I got a bowl and a spoon and had the ice cream host fill the bowl for him. :) Viola! Ice cream and a movie. He was a happy camper.
There were not many kids on board. The dynamics was mostly older ladies and gentlemen, couples, folks with toddlers. I did not see any teenagers. Maybe a handful of kids age 6-12.
The ship is very old looking with very dirty carpets except in the dining areas. I have to say that the buffet foods on the Majesty of the Seas tasted better then the buffet on the Disney cruises. More flavor and variety. We love Disney, but the food needs improvement. Our dining host in Starlight was a very serious fella, and he bordered on rude. We only went to one of the dinners. Windjammers was open for dinner every night.
Going into the stateroom on the first night, I could tell that everyone was expecting it to be bigger. They walked in there quickly like they were expecting to go back quite a ways but were almost instantly stopped by the bed and almost piled on top of each other. That was funny. The room was very small, but there was enough room for all of our stuff and we did not stay in there much, so it didn't matter. It does help to separate the bed. Much better. It wasn't Disney, but we knew that going in. We had a good time. I never felt bored. Was a little odd that one of the guest service agents seemed to struggle with English. The majority of the guests were speaking English. She just did not understand what I was asking, so I gave up. But, cudos to her for knowing some English. I understand it's a tough language to learn. I would not go again. But, I am happy we went. It was nice enough and a good family vacation.

We got off Majesty as Terrena got on, I think....on Sept 4. It was our first Royal cruise after 1 Disney and 8 Carnival cruises. We had a good time. Here is my mini report...

Getting on the ship was easy and quick. Got to Port at noon and was on the ship by 12:30....walked right on. Way better than Carnival.

We ate lunch in buffet and explored the ship. We could go to our room at 1:30. It was a tiny cabin, smaller than Carnival but was good enough. It had more storage space than Carnival though. We had our bags quickly and unpacked easily and stowed luggage under bed. Bed was hard and I woke to sore hips and whatnot. We had window that looked out on deck that went around ship and had covered area with the hanging lifeboats. It was nice, like our own giant balcony. There are lounge chairs out there. This deck, 7, is great location for going up to Lido or down to other stuff.

Room steward was tip top. Kept room tidy and when I asked him for two wine glasses, he had them in room pronto and fresh ones every day. We brought our two bottles of wine allowed but only drank one.

Ship was noticably older and I agree with above about the carpet (it was dingey and frayed). But it was easy to navigate being a smaller ship and not crowded due to lower passenger capacity. We never had bad lines for anything. In Port, getting off and on ship was quick and just walk right off/on. Even tendering at Coco Cay was quick and no lines. This is not our experience on Carnival and bumps Royal up on our list when wanting to book a cruise.

Food....now I like most of the food on Carnival. Royal, had some misses in this department. Some food was really good but there was more blech food than on Carnival. And some awkward buffet placement. Also the water and iced tea in buffet tasted icky. As did the coffee. The MDR dinners took two hours. Now it may have been more because we were seated with a couple older ladies (traveling together) who came 15-20 minutes late each night and the servers put us on same timeframe with them (we didn't get main courses until they finished their apps, and they also got more than one app and Royal only brings one at a time unlike Carnival who would bring all apps you ordered at same time). We missed dessert the first night, which also was DH's birthday and our Anniversary, because we wanted to get to show and it had been an hour and a half with no dessert menus handed to us yet. So second night the servers promised us they would move things faster so we could have dessert....NOT, we were there 2 hours. The third night we skipped MDR and went to buffet. Would have been better if we had our own table and am not sure why they sat us with two older ladies on our Anniversary cruise. They were nice ladies but ruined the MDR dinners.

Coco Cay was great. Best private island of the three we have been to. Clean and spaceous with a lot of stuff to do.

I won bingo for $300 and that covered our on board charges.

Theater show was terrible but that was similar to Carnival. Comedian was good like on Carnival. We didn't do any casino. We listened to karaoke. DH tried to watch college football and they don't broadcast it on ship. No CBS or ABC and their ESPN was the Caribbean zone which has all soccer. He managed to watch some in Nassau. We booked another cruise while on the ship, for Jan 2019. He asked about football and was told they do buy the channels for playoff time so I hope that is true. This next cruise is 9 days and DH will lose his stuff if college championship game isn't shown or pro playoffs. It is on the Grandeur out of Baltimore and I have heard rumors that the ship is for sale and also suspicions of Royal pulling out of Baltimore due to not being able to open casino while in Bay and they are in Bay for long time, like 8 hours. If our cruise goes bye bye, we may scrap cruising that week altogether. Our college kids have off and it's a cheaper week...the week after New Year's. But DH has to have his football...eyeroll.

Forgot to mention. The crew in wind jammers was terribly inconsiderate. (Though the food was good) I was almost mowed down by some of them several times. They really really want to get to the drink station before you! I was about to put my cup on the lever and one of them stepped in front of me. Never acknowledged me. Happened twice. same girl. I managed to stop before I ran into her. Another fella actually hit me with what ever he was carrying. Another crossed in front of me (He could have slowed and crossed behind in another second) while I was holding my plate. I had to stop short so he would not be wearing my dinner. I don't know if they are just tired of being courteous, but I swear, if I go on another cruise and the staff acts like that, I am going to let them hit me and drop my food on their feet so they can clean it up. (kidding) It was that bad. Make sure you keep a sharp eye out so you don't get knocked over by the crew.

You'll have fun, but don't judge RCCL on the Majesty. That is a really old and really small ship. They don't make them like that anymore.

We have a 4 night booked on the Majesty. It cost me $175 per person (not including tax and tips) for an oceanview. I found adjoining cabins so we have two cabins for four people, which is way better than sticking all of us in one cabin. We were originally booked at the Poly but I decided that we would try this out especially since I can barely feed my people for this price in Disney. I was eyeing a Disney cruise that was $250 per person but it ended up in San Juan and dh just didn't want to take that risk, though he did say that we could do a Disney cruise at some point.

We have a week in Disney after the cruise. I'm not quite sure of the packing logistics. We just may be wearing Mickey clothes on the cruise.
