Matt's 2019, Spring Dapper Day Trip for Char's 10th Birthday with Napa Rose/Club 33!!

It was almost 11:30, so we headed towards one of our FAVORITE parts of DCA, the Grizzly Peak Recreation Area, and one of the most under-appreciated parts of DCA, the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. I really hope they never get rid of this and replace it with some E-ticket type of attraction. This self-guided, immersion into the forests of the Pacific North West is simply a wonderful part of the park and really makes the area w

Great photos and TR! Grizzly Peak is fantastic, we also hope they never get rid of it! Although our boys have sadly outgrown the zipline, it's still a must-do for us every trip!

I have to ask, how did you get the old furniture from the Grand Californian? I've seen a Hotel furniture re-sale shop in Phoenix, was it from there or some other find? So jelly!

Amazing pictures, as usual! And that breakfast at the RR Taverne looks delicious. Though we've never been ones to eat breakfast at Disney (prime ride time!) I think I'd stop for that pancake stack. Big Thunder Mountain never gets old. :)

Given that it was a quarter past nine, time to head over to our favorite attraction ever....

Digging this new scene. THIS is PLUSSING. Screwing up the auction scene and the Davy Jones/Black Beard Mist and inclusion of Jack Sparrow are all travesties.

DSC_9780%20(Large).jpg

OK, gripe here. I realize the company that manufactured the revolving door mechanism went out of business, but simply switching up the projections on the doors when you still enter the middle door ALWAYS is a major thematic let down. Seriously, you can build Galaxy's Edge and you can't fix a wall on rollers? Man up Disney, you are letting your edge degrade.

Mara is seemingly agreeable this morning.

DSC_9879%20(Large).jpg

After a hike across the park (because why not when you are only 3 people), it was time for Toon Town. I honestly love this land. It's underappreciated and full of SOOOO many details. It has so many practical treasures that people probably never enjoy, but I do. I do wish Eisner hadn't chopped the second story of RRCS from the budget, but it's queue is only slightly eclipsed by Indian Jones for immersiveness. LOVE this attraction and the movie to boot!!

Shoving a tied up lady in a trunk? The SJW must be having a field day after they got done messing up Pirates.

Gag factory is one of the best themed retail locations in DL proper if not the best. I did an extensive review of it in one of my other TRs, but I absolutely LOVE the theming of this place.

DSC_0061%20(Large).jpg

As there are only two ride vehicle-based attractions in Toon Town as of this trip, to the next it is. My only gripe... MINIMAL SHADE!!

Amy had to take Char's ears to let her cool off.

DSC_0068%20(Large).jpg

DSC_0071%20(Large).jpg

We do love this attraction even if the seating is BEYOND cramped for large adults.

DSC_0097%20(Large).jpg

Next up before we move on to the next attraction, what trip to Toon Town isn't complete without a trip to Chip and Dale's Tree House. I am sad that this will likely be demolished in the coming years...such promise..

Woo! I wondered what happened to one of my favorite trip reporters. Glad to see you and family are still Disney-ing!

I've been soo overwhelmed lately. Have properties to attend to, new job, girls growing up I don't know how to relate to through puberty, it's just been a mess. I'm still alive and still LOVING my DIsney.

OK, as there's an unofficial rule on C33 pics, I'm just gonna classify every one of these as pre-club even though the COA is now considered in-club...

After a nice cool down, shower, and re-dress for everyone, it was time to head over to the club for our reservation. Left the room 8-ish for ample time to get there...

I should also probably mention, we were bounding for Char's Bday extravaganza. Aladdin! Amy was the Magic Carpet (the print dress she's wearing is exactly that), Char is Jasmine, and I am the Genie. I could just do a blue shirt for my part, but they were dressed to the nines!!!

Sounds like another Disneyland trip is needed! Congrats on the new job!
We were hoping for this October. Not gonna happen. Next March maybe at the soonest. Next October, I have to move HEAVEN AND EARTH for Victoria's 10th. Next year better be amazing. We have ideas of 21R, Adventureland Suite, and C33 for most of them.

Even though this in within the hallowed doors, I'm gonna count this set of pics as outside.....

After we got our fill of the CoA, it was quarter to nine and time to head upstairs.

Part of my favorite parts is for the kiddos to not only press the button and get us in, but also sign the guest register. So fun.

We were promptly escorted to our table, which was along the North wall of the Salon adjacent to the new window they had installed with the renovation.

Oh how I love those chargers!!!

Hmmm.... a wonderful looking menu tonight....

While we were deciding, we all started with a round of drinks. Amy got a Mint Julep (a real one, not the green one served at the Julep bar), I went with a Manhattan, and Char went with a Le Raymond Fizz (the first of 3 I think she had that night... thankfully I have the recipe and can make them at home)

IMG_7776%20(Large).jpg

An amuse bouche came out for all 3 of us. Amy and mine was a citrus concoction with some lump crab meat on it. Both served in "toothpick holders" (what the Club calls shot glasses).

Charlotte's first course, a yogurt parfait was also delivered.

I decided to have the wine pairing and a glass of white was poured promptly. For our first course, Amy and I both selected the Sautéed Snow Crab Claws. YUMM!!

Perfectly cooked and the sauce made them delectable. I'm not so sure about finger food at Club33, but we dug in with healthy appetites.

DSC_0418%20(Large).jpg

We both went for the same second course too... the chicken and Leek soup. They brought the ingredients in their own bowl and in typical grand presentation, poured the broth over after (always loved that flair). The chicken, so delicately prepared, leek matched perfectly with the delicateness of the other ingredients and the acid of the lemon crème brought it all together. DELICIOUS!!!!

DSC_0419%20(Large).jpg

Again, Amy and I were in lock step, because the third course, also the same tonight... We go nuts for great scallops (Napa's scallops over vanilla lobster risotto is a must on most trips) The club always makes amazing Scallops, and this was no different. The oyster stew was briny and savory at the same time and a perfect pairing for this. I could have eaten 8 of this dish back to back!

DSC_0425%20(Large).jpg

A palate cleanser came out. It was a mango juice with tiny bits of pineapple if memory serves (also in a tooth pick holder)

Now it was time to get down to the main entree. Again, Amy and I got the exact same offering. I'm a sucker for Rack of Lamb, and it has to be cooked properly, which this was. I probably go through 20 racks at home every year the family loves it so much. The onion velvet paired so well with it, and the red pepper glaze complimented the sweetness of the lamb. HEAVENLY.

DSC_0433%20(Large).jpg

Char obviously went with the steak

DSC_0424%20(Large).jpg

On to dessert...

Beignets of course!!! She was also presented with a birthday card signed by the club's cast as they've taken to doing in recent years. Lovely little touch.

DSC_0438%20(Large)%20(1).jpg

I went with the chocolate decadence. I much prefer the opera cake I usually get when it's on the menu, but this was good, albeit heavy and maybe overly rich for my palate. I don't really have a big sweet tooth.

DSC_0443%20(Large).jpg

Amy got the Semifreddo. I don't know that I even tried it as cucumber for desert.... not really my thing.

DSC_0444%20(Large).jpg

I rounded out the meal with a cup or two of their wonderful coffee.

During Dinner we briefly stepped out for F!. Horrible view unfortunately, but always good to see. The view from 21 Royal.... well... Nothing better anywhere.

IMG_7783%20(Large).jpg

After Dinner, we took an opportunity to take a few family pics on the balconies. Never eaten out here, but I imagine it would be pretty darn amazing. Maybe next time that it is dinner for two.

Almost forgot... Char getting us in....

[MOVIE]

After we were kicked out (graciously escorted even though the park was still open), Char was just outta steam. We ALWAYS do Pirates on the way out... this time would be no exception.

How I kinda felt full of food and booze... what's my next move..

This new vignette.... I love it so much.

On our way back to the Grand at a few minutes till Midnight, we stumbled into World of Disney....Clearly Char was punch-drunk and wanted EVERYTHING! Sorry... not happening

IMG_7794%20(Large).jpg

I have ZERO clue how Amy got this GIANT Dole Whip, but I still wasn't buying it especially with 4 figures of C33 merch in our bags..

So.... having been out well past midnight, we took it easy this morning, especially as the ladies had hair, makeup, and some dressing up to do because... IT IS DAPPER DAY!!! We didn't even leave the room until after 10AM. Disneyland was LONG since open, so we just took our time taking pictures along the way...

Who can guess what we are bounding as?
