Anyone have any recommendations for a neurologist that specializes in Autism in the Long Island/NY area??? I've tried a few places for recommendations but no one has replied.

Dr. Sidhu at Columbia Presbyterian specializes in autism

Dr. Ingrid Taff, MD.
1010 Northern Blvd.
Suite 130
Great neck, NY 11021
(516)829-5555

Dr. Joseph Maytal 516 465 5255.

Dr. Rami Grossmann - check out his website childbrain.com

That gives you options. All come highly recommended from parents on my local autism group

I am going to move this to the disABILITIES Community Board since it will be on topic there.

Mt. Kisco might be far depending on where exactly you are located but
Dr. Jay Selman was great
117 Smith Ave
Mount Kisco, NY 10549
Practice: (914) 666-8080

Did you call the Cody Center at Stonybrook? They have tons of resources and can direct you to a doctor (among other things).

If you need someone more specific to call, PM me and I'll get you a name when I get to work on Monday. I'm sure my boss will be able to provide one (she's a psychologist with a specialty in Autism).

Not sure how old your child is. If he or she is younger, I would recommend a developmental pediatrician or psychiatrist over a neurologist. Dr. Cecelia McCarton at the McCarton Center in NYC is excellent, though not inexpensive. (www.mccartoncenter.com) On Long Island, in Nassau County, I would recommend the Faye J. Lindner Center.(http://www.northshorelij.com/NSLIJ/autism) They offer many different assessments, therapies and support groups. My son took executive functioning lessons there and it really did help his organization skills. Also, the Lindner Center has reasonable prices. Some of the people from the Lindner Center split off and opened the Aspire Center in Melville. They are also very good.

(http://www.mountsinai.org/profiles/alexander-kolevzonid=0000072500001497170212) The one place that did not impress me was the Cody Center. The testing was brief and perfunctory---they only did an ADOS--- and they started telling me DS should stay in high school until he is 21. DS is 17 and entirely on track to graduate with an advanced diploma! Good luck and feel free to message me if you have more questions.

Hi, I am New on this Forum, Do you know any group in Long Island That Help Parents Living with Autism ?

You might be able to find out about support groups through the AHA (http://www.ahany.org). I think they have groups and I believe the Cody and Lindner Centers do as well. Also, check out the Mid Island Y JCC or the Sid Jacobsen Y. I think they have support groups.

Last time I checked, he was no longer at this address/phone. He sees patients in the Bronx at the Martin Luther King Jr. clinic (or something like that). He also sees in-patient only (used to see out-patient) at Blythedale children's hospital.
