Nov17: Shhh…Don’t Tell the Kids , Husband or Podiatrist

So excited... :jumping1:

Rivers-of-Light_Full_29620.jpg

One of the things that I had on my mental bucket list for this trip was to see the Rivers of Light in Animal Kingdom. Looking at touringplans.com and the park schedule on the WDW it has not been listed for the week that I am going to be there. I pulled up the DTA (Disney Travel Agents) calendar and it is scheduled for Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday during this trip. I hope that also means the Tree of Life Awakenings will also take place, too!

Yay, I'm here! First off, I cannot wait to see you! :yay: We ate at both Tiffins and Homecoming last trip and both were good! Tiffins though, is exceptional. It was soooooo good we're eating there again in November! I hope you love it!

Yay!!

The days should fly by pretty fast considering my few short weeks of summer vacation end today...and it is back to work for me tomorrow. The beginning and ending of the school year is always the busiest for me...I have several new trainings to attend, plus a couple of staff development sessions to write and deliver.
Sorry about the end of summer, my mom's a teacher so I understand the craziness. Hopefully these next three months will fly by.

So excited... :jumping1:

Okay, I had no idea that RoL wasn't every day o_O Now I must check and see if it's happening when I was planning to see it. May have to rearrange plans now.

I am so excited that everything worked out for Monday night...I am so excited to see both of you! I think we need to get another maragarita too! You are making me rethink about letting Tiffins go...being tied down to an ADR on Saturday night.

Fish Extenders for the Disney Cruise

Our lists for the Fish Extender Gift exchange came out this week on the FB group I am in. I opted to be in an adult only group since it was just DH. There are only 3 other couples in our group. At first I was really bummed but then I got to thinking that with only 3 people to make/buy things for I could be a little more generous. I had already budgeted about $200 towards this. I have made my final decision on what I am going to do...

1. Fish Extender-Since we are going on a Christmas cruise I am going to make an oversized stocking for Mr. Grumpy and myself. I found the perfect material last night at Hobby Lobby, so this weekend I am going to sit down and make a pattern.

2. Fish Extender Gifts-I have pinned so many cute ideas the last couple of months that it was hard to decide what I wanted to do, so I am going to do a "Cabin Survival Kit"...which if I can find a cute little zippered cosmetic bag I will put it in, if not I might make one of those little change/pocket stuff trays with some DCL fabric

  • Poo~Pourri-I found the recipe online how to make this spray. I know the lady of the cabin will thank me.
  • Air Freshner-Again something I am going to make...found the recipe for the Beach Club Scent
  • Bubble Magnet Set
  • His & Hers (Mickey & Minnie) Clothes Pin Set
I also found a really cute nautical picture frame that I am going to embellish with the DCL logo.

Pictures to follow soon...need to get busy on this stuff!

Never wanting to waste a moment of Mr. Grumpy's temporary insanity (brought on by a HUGE trout) I got on MDE found availability, checked SW and guess what the amount I was saving by booking a Friday night flight would almost cover 1 of my added nights (Don't you just love Funny Disney Math...and I am a math teacher). SCORE...are you totally confused now?

I do love Disney math! The last trip I took it extended my trip by four days! I am a teacher too. I teach eighth grade. So, I am curious, is the conference you are going to for educators? Maybe, I can use that Disney math and figure out a way to attend a conference in Orlando too sometime. Tee Hee.

I am really sad about both Coronado and Caribbean Beach totally getting a makeover and lots of new additions. I wonder if Disney is going to start losing some of the quaintness of the resorts? I am no really excited to think about a tower going in, but then again I know nothing about Coronado...it is my conference hotel so its a good pick.

Like you, I am really disappointed that Disney is adding the towers to Coronado and Caribbean Beach resorts. I have stayed at both and really loved the themes and tranquil quality about them. But I fear that with the addition of the towers and additional rooms that will definitely change the feel of them. Plus, I bet it will also increase the price to stay at them and I have not read anything about adding or increasing the pools. So, the pools will be super crowded with all the guests in the new rooms using them too.

As I said, I enjoyed our stay at CSR. It was very pleasant at the time. Hopefully, the construction that is going on will not impact your trip and enjoyment too much.

We did the ROL package last time so I had the Octopus to start, the Wagyu Strip Loin for my entree and the Calamansi Mousse for dessert. All were excellent!

Your fish extenders are going to be so cute!

I am so loving the menu, but darn it...just not working with my plans very well. Sigh

Thanks...I really need to get working on my little projects for the cruise. After I posted yesterday I changed my mind about the bag...instead I am going to make a couple of Butler Trays. I found a really easy pattern on line while look for my stocking pattern. Now to pull out the sewing machine.

The conference for this trip is not for school...its for my little side part-time job that I am not allowed to mention on DISboards. However, my very first trip to WDW 7 years ago was an education conference. We stayed at the Gaylord right outside of the main gates. It was with Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).

I am lucky that my position, elementary math curriculum specialist, allows me the ability to leave for a week and that I have a district that is flexible enough to let you use your personal days how you want. Now 10 years ago I would have never left my classroom for a week.

I am not worried too much by the construction. My days that I am staying at CSR are going to be filled with the conference which is taking place at the BWInn. I can't wait to stay there...but then I guess I will have to go back when the construction is done for another stay since that is what my part time job is all about.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, as you mentioned being a teacher in a classroom setting, I am unable to just plan a week's vacation during the regular school year which leaves holiday times, winter break and summer break. But like you I am fortunate to work in a wonderful district that gives us two personal days to use as we need them, except for a few days/times which we have to avoid. So, I was just dreaming of how I might be able to plan a conference in Orlando which might be two days and then tie my two personal days and a weekend together to give me about two days at WDW and a travel day. I would most likely have to pay the conference fees myself or I might get partial refund. So, if something pops up that really would benefit my teaching practices AND it just so happens to be near WDW, then I guess I would have to use that "Disney math" to plan a way to go. :scratchin :thumbsup2

With all the changes going on to the resorts and the parks themselves, there are lots of reasons to plan trips to go.

I so love DISNEY MATH! Being a math teacher of sorts I can always work those numbers in my favor when it comes to a Disney trip. I am glad your district is flexible too...I know a lot of districts that are not. There are WAY TOO MANY REASONS too visit soon....lots of needed trips. LOL

You sound very crafty, I can't wait to see how everything turns out.

This is awesome! Didn't know there was a DIY version, I must look that up.

Oooo, I want a butler tray! ;) Seriously, I think those will be hits with your fellow cruisers! I'm so envious you can sew. I wish I had learned that skill!

LOL...this pattern calls for straight lines, nothing hard there...although my straight lines have something to be desired, so I think I will use a zig zag stitch. My sewing skills are somewhat small, much to the displeasure of my mother.

Joining in! Shaun and I are there November 2nd to 6th! While he is running the challenge - I'm supposed to be running the 10K only since I'm coming back from my surgery in May. It's August 9th and I still haven't run with clearance from my PT and the most I've walked in a mile. This should be interesting. I understand the weirdness that is not running the main events for the weekend!

Are you planning on doing any of the F&W Special Events?

HI MELISSA...so glad you are joining in. Excited you will be there the same time. How is the healing going? I understand the fustration of healing...I am hoping to finally be cleared next week to begin walking at least, but I am not very hopeful. I am still wanting so bad to sign up for the half, I figure with my time I could pretty much walk it as long as I can get started and build some distance the next few months. I have even mapped it out on the calendar and it is pretty much do able as long as the ankle cooperates. I just need the doctor to give me the green light. I have finished PT...

As for the special events, I really did not find anything that either fit my schedule or I was really interested in. But I know my FAVORITE DISNEY FOODIE will point me to things I have missed, right? So what are you doing?

I am thinking about the W&D after party on Sunday night. Only making a lose plan for this trip and going with the flow...what a unique concept for me! I know that I am going to be tied up with the conference on Tuesday and Wednesday and then we leave for the cruise on Friday.

Those are super cute. You must be super crafty! I've been on two cruises and just can't bring myself to bother with FE. It seems like an awful lot of work and extra planning…just not my thing :crazy2:

DH and I are going on the Fantasy next year and I think if there was ever a time to try it, it would be then…ahhh, who am I kidding? It's not going to happen :rotfl2:

My healing seems to come and go. I have no swelling for days and then it puffs up like a puffer fish! I've been going to PT twice a week since the third week of June and that has helped. Once my scar tissue 'popped' it definitely helped my mobility a ton! I didn't want to do the challenge without having done a 10K and Half separately first. I am signed up for St. Jude's Half Marathon in December with Betsy. I picked that to be my first half post surgery since the time limit is a 20 minute mile pace so I have a lot of wiggle room!

I hope your ankle cooperates! Its shocking the PT released you if you still don't have clearance to exercise from your doctor. I thought they were supposed to partner together? My PT is more cautious than my doctor. My doctor cleared me but my PT knows I want to return to running so she is being more cautious about it all.

Here are the special events going on while you are there:

Saturday, November 4th
9AM - Parisian Breakfast
1:30PM - Parisian Afternoon

Sunday, November 5th
12PM - French Family Meal Traditions

Monday, November 6th
12PM - Italian Food & Wine Pairing
1PM - Mediterranean Food & Wine Pairing
4:00PM - Hibachi Experience

Tuesday, November 7th
1:30PM - Italian Food, Wine & Beer Pairing

Wednesday, November 8th
12PM - Italian Food & Wine Pairing
12PM - Mexican Tequila Lunch
1PM - Mediterranean Food & Wine Pairing
1:15PM - Japanese Craft Beer Tasting

Thursday, November 9th
12PM - Mexican Tequila Lunch
1:30PM - Italian Food, Wine & Beer Pairing
4PM - Tokyo Pairing

My husband & I are doing the Parisian Afternoon. It still includes the unlimited Mimosas like the Breakfast but the meal is plated and includes macarons! We did it a couple years ago when it was brand new and enjoyed it. We figured this would work out better than the Breakfast so we would have time to relax and clean up from the 10K. All of those events are lovely that are going on during your trip. My husband and I really enjoyed the Hibachi Experience when we did it 2 years ago and it was well worth the cost. The Mexican Tequila Lunch is also a ton of fun. The Italian Food, Wine & Beer Pairing also gets great reviews.

So I am getting a little antsy...not everything for this trip is in place 100% and I so want to plan...

Departure Day Plans (Friday, November 3)

My flight does not leave until 6 pm from my regional airport and has a tight connection at Dallas Love field, so I guess once again I will not have time for one of my favorite margaritas…

6 (1).JPG

I know that sounds crazy that one of the best margaritas I have had has been in an airport, but these are really that good (or I am just in a gitty mood because I am going to WDW). Last year I met several people traveling for Wine & Dine weekend, plus on the same flight was about 10 administrators from my school district. LOL...it was a lot of fun, sadly I don't think the flight to MCO will be that much fun this time around. I arrive at...

Around 11 pm all ALONE...no one to meet me like last trip or Cammy around to have fun with in the airport, so that means that I will be retrieving my luggage from the baggage carousel then heading back up to the main terminal and then back down the other side to...

Which will be taking me to

images.jpg

For my first resort stay of 3 during the next week. I am hoping to get a refurb room so I can do a blog report on the changes. I read something on touringplans about how to request specific rooms so I am going to see how that works. I am not really picky at which section I am in (stayed in the 80s before so I would like a little different this time) and I am not afraid of walking. If I feel like it and the weather is nice I might even walk around taking pictures...I love POP at night!
