How hard will it be to get into a park later in the day NYE? Can we get in if we have a dinner reservation? Will fast passes still be available? Any advice on how to plan for this day is appreciated! Especially what are our chances for getting a fastpass for haunted mansion holiday after 3pm?

I guess I'll take a stab at this then. We have been to the parks for NYE a couple times. To be honest, we leave DL by 10:30 AM and don't return because DCA is far less crowded and more pleasant to us. Unless crowd patterns change significantly from previous years, you are likely to be able to get in to DCA any time that day/night, but DL could experience gate closures.

If the weather is good, there will very likely be gate closures at DL, so the rule of thumb is to be in DL by early afternoon if you want to be sure you are inside. I have seen others suggest 1 PM, but there's really no way of knowing when crowds will peak. The thing about gate closures is they are unpredictable. They may happen, they may not. They may happen early afternoon then lift for a while in the late afternoon or evening then close again then lift again or they may just hit a closure and mostly stay closed through all the interesting parts that you wanted to be there for. You just don't know for sure, but NYE is one of the most likely days of the year when gate closure will happen.

We had friends who chose to stay on the DL side 2 years ago and they reported wall-to-wall people and lines for everything that eventually just got too long for them to tolerate. Fastpasses disappeared fairly quickly that day, but I don't know how quickly. Ordinarily I would expect headliners to be gone by 3 PM on NYE and think there could still be some HM left, but then again HM is a very popular ride during the season. Also, MaxPass has really changed fastpass availability patterns.

I can tell you that DL will not just let you in with a dinner reservation if the gates are closed. I have heard that these closures are hard closures mandated by the fire marshall.

Disneyland may or may not close during the day. I've been there when it hard closed at 4 and didn't reopen, and I've been there when it stayed open all day. If it hard closes (ie Fire Marshal closes it) the only way in is if you are on a VIP tour as you are counted in both parks all day. Reservations for meals - If you are not in the park, and it is closed during your reservation, contact Disney Dining and they will make sure you don't get billed the $10 no show fee. The exception to this is Club 33. If you have a reservation there, you will have a contact number, call them prior to your reservation. They will send a host to meet you by the Newsstand, and they will escort you into the restaurant. If the hard closure hasn't lifted by the time you are done dining (Club closes at 3 on NYE) you will be escorted back out.

Thank you for the replies! Should I attempt a dinner reservation at DCA with a World of Color Package?

I would...that is exactly what we are planning on doing, we too will be spending NYE at DCA this year. We also are hoping to get a Carthay Circle lunch reservation for the same day because we are planning on being in the park from right at opening until after we ring in the New Year, and since we won't be heading back for a break in the afternoon, our lunch will be our R&R. I have read that DL park can get really crazy on NYE.

Does DCA have fireworks on NYE?
Yes.

Would there be less of a chance for cancellation of the fireworks in DCA or are they held to the same guide lines as DL. Great picture.
The ones in DCA are low level, so not the same guidelines. But are more likely to completely cancel if there are low winds, as they are shot off from right behind Paradise/Pixar Pier. Actually, I'd think they'd have a bigger chance of cancelation due to how close it is to Katella. In 20+ years, the only time NYE fireworks had canceled was more due to rain and not winds. We even had fireworks the year of "fog" where the fog just changed color and you heard booms.

Bahahaha.....I get the mental picture. That would be strange indeed. Thanks
