Oct - Dec 2019 no longer on sale

Probably not Virgin's fault - they can only sell what Disney allocates to them and if Disney suddenly change their allocations then the Tour Operators such as Virgin have no option. It seems that rooms are available on the US Disney site but not on the UK Disney site so they are certainly doing something to restrict access from the UK (and maybe other countries as well). Similar situation with moderate resorts - suddenly on the UK Disney site there are no rooms available at POR or POFQ and only the higher priced Pirate rooms at CB for the same period. Maybe Disney are pulling rooms back for that period as they can sell them for a higher price in the US with a higher demand expected then due to Star Wars opening. Just a thought.

From what I can recall most of the rooms are cheaper on the USA site even with the unfavourable exchange rate.

For my dates in November just a room at Beach club for 14 nights would cost around $6300 (I think it was about $450 a night). My original price with Virgin for room, flights, car, tickets, dining plan etc was about £7300. (So around $9500). I think I’d end up quite out of pocket.

I just wish I knew why all these rooms are on the USA website but they say it's full for UK guests

Surly more rooms and resorts will come out soon on the UK site

They’re just lying to me really aren’t they? It’s not “unavailable”, they just don’t want to give me the offer anymore. I’m so frustrated. I know Disney and Virgin are completely covered by their t&c’s, and there isn’t much I can do. But I’m still angry.

At the moment the room rates on the USA site are the rack rates (full price) Hopefully in the coming months some discounts will be released and the prices should come down.

See to be honest

If Disney are genuinely over booked then then they should be offering you a free cancellation or a free upgrade to a better resort or room etc

I remember we had a two week stay for for Xmas and New Year's Eve going into the year 2000 and when we arrived at CBR they said I'm really sorry but the hotel is over booked and they tried to put is in another MOD Resort but my father said sorry but I want to stay here or the grand Floridian. Two minutes later she comes back and says right that's u all booked into then GF.

I guess that's the disney service I thought they give

However on this occasion there not even full and far from it considering it's so far away. There selling the room and Resort you probably had booked on the USA website. So why should you go out of pocket or change your arrangements after it was fully confirmed.

It's not right. If you had to cancel they would be quick enough to charge you admin fees

I would ask to speak to guest services and take it further.

I you were to cancel your current Virgin package and rebook with an American travel agent that specialises in Disney holiday then if Disney bring out any special offers after you book i.e room discount or free dining then the travel agent will apply the discount to your booking without any penalty to you. It’s part of the service they offer.

This is interesting. Is beach club often included in US discounts? In particular free dining.

There are many different discounts which come out throughout the year. The advantage of booking with a reputable USA TA is that they are on the ball and as Disneynutinlondon says, will apply any discounts which will be of benefit to you throughout the booking. If you're not happy with your booking, you have the option to cancel without penalty up to, I think, 7 days before travel. It could even be the day before. We're annual pass holders so usually use that discount. When we travel at Christmas the AP discount isn't usually available but the USA free dining offer normally ends on 22nd Dec but then applies to the booking for the whole period we're away so we take that.

Beach Club is virtually always part of any USA discounts. There are a few hotels that don't often have discounts (or if they do are lower), POFQ, the Little Mermand suites at Art of Animation are two that spring to mind.

When we first started to visit Disney and I knew very little about Orlando I used to book the whole package through UK travel agencies. Over the years it's no exaggeration to say I've saved thousands by booking DIY and using the discounts available on the USA site.

Last year friends that travelled with us over Xmas/new year booked with a US travel agent they were staying at The Yacht Club. In April of last year Disney brought out a free dining offer that covered the period they were checking in so the travel agent applied the offer to their booking so they got free dining.

As with everything there is no guarantee that Disney will make any offers but as I’ve previously posted they are already offering a free dining bounceback offer so there is no reason to think they won’t it just depends whether or not is covers your dates.

This free dining offer is the one I've just mentioned in my post! The rooms are at rack rate over the Christmas period but 'free dining' is a good perk.

I think there is more to this. I phoned back to get an understanding of why only the Animal Kingdom could be offered so far out and was put on hold for ages.

Apparently the info from Disney is that hotel only or free cancellation

Price increases prior to Star Wars opening maybe?
I agree, there is something more to it.

I am thinking resort packages where you get to experience SW before it officially opens, and you get to pay a fortune for the package!

Just taken a call from Virgin to confirm refund has been made.

A very honest lady who admitted they ‘made a huge mistake and sold allocations for rooms they never received’ and the allocation is ‘far less given Star Wars opening’

The dates on their website is now for rooms they have but will not include dining options which will also ‘see some major changes next year’

Can't be easy being a tour operator when brochures are designed and printed months in advance and bookings are open from when they are published - must all be based on previous history of allocations etc. and then have an organisation like Disney reduce your allocations without warning when they dish them out. I think that you are going to find some pretty high room and package prices for those months on the US Disney site as they cash in on the Star Wars opening. Why offer free dining when people will probably be willing to pay inflated prices for the rooms anyway. Glad that our next trip is not until 2021.

I think many of the problems with UK tour operators is that they don't actually know enough about Disney and don't have Disney specialists. As most of us on here know, booking a room at WDW isn't simply a case of a 'room' as in a standard European hotel. The one time I booked with Virgin holidays, the advisor was adamant that there was no difference between Port Orleans resort and Port Orleans French Quarter. Several tour operators have held back in opening their booking window - whether this is because they were waiting to see the impact of the impending Star Wars land on their allocation - I don't know?

Rumours have been flying around for a while that some resorts were ending the free dining. I can only speculate what's happened but there's an awful lot of unhappy customers who feel that VH have sold rooms before receiving their allocation.

The room prices at the moment are relatively high as they are rack rate - these will most certainly come down if/when discounts are applied.

So do we expect more rooms from sept 2019 onwards to be released

And if so do we expect them to be with free dinning

I don't think anyone knows now! My assumption is there are changes coming to Hotel Tiering, Dining, and crazy SW packages, with allocations to different TAs TBC.

It's all up in the air, and remember Disney Holidays UK are also separate from the actual WDW Resort Operations company, so they won't necessarily know what is happening either.

I'm glad I've booked up for offsite next year (early Nov), with only two room only nights booked direct.

Totally agree with this. Disney has already begun to change the status of some rooms, for example at the Boardwalk Inn. There are already so many different room types that I think it's only a matter of time before more changes come. The WL now offers 'club level access' when staying in a standard room for an increased price which is payable on check in. My gut feeling is that there'll be a lot more of this as the new developments take effect.

Good point about Disney holidays UK which is something I never realised until we'd travelled with them a couple of times.

Yeah took me a while to notice, while you do use a US call centre, they make it quite clear they have less info (but over a water cooler chat, they probably know all the gossip!) They are clearly no based in the WDW Ops offices in Celebration.
