It's hit or miss with us. I would say about 50% of the time we get a room ready text.
Same. We never get the notification if we don't go to the front desk, which makes me wonder what on earth the point is.Right. Something has changed without notice. The whole point of online check in was supposed to be that a party could skip the front desk and be notified of their room being ready. However, for the past 2 trips (August and March), we had to check in with the front desk anyway. So...like everyone else, I ask...what's the point?
They actually used to say something to the effect of 'skip the front desk and go straight to your room'. I'm fine if it's changed. I don't mind stopping by the front desk, but then I won't do online check-in either. In August, believe me, it did NOT shorten the time of check-in at the front desk.Actually the whole point of Online Check In is to speed up the time needed at the Front Desk when checking in. Being able to Bypass The Front Desk is just a bonus for some guests.

oooh! I like that.It didn't change. The actual wording has always been "With Online Check In, you may be able to Bypass The Front Desk".
And unfortunately, nobody knows how they decide who gets to Bypass the Front Desk and who doesn't. Probably the same algorithm they use to determine who gets unique offer codes (PIN Codes).
The goal wasn't to shorten the overall time to check in, but the time you spend interacting with the CM. The registration stuff is done during Online Check In. Like verifying your info, providing credit card, etc. Which is why I always felt "Online Preregistration" was a better name for the process.
MagicBand Order
Opting out of your new MagicBand may allow you to go directly to your room upon arrival. Just remember to bring an active MagicBand with you.

Not really. When it first started, yes definitely. When you book nowadays it asks you to do online checkin, the site specifically asks, “Want to skip the front desk?” It is the intent to skip the front desk but Disney IT is notoriously BAD.This
It's at least designed to speed things up with information being provided in advanced but according to WDW's website:Not really. Oh I agree what it is. I even quoted the same thing earlier in the thread. I’m just saying it definitely is marketed as “Want to skip the front desk?” But, it doesn’t work well. It is a mystery. I travel for work every week and the only time I go to the front desk is if I need my free water or have a question. I love Disney but...It's at least designed to speed things up with information being provided in advanced but according to WDW's website:

No one really knows the percentage of people who don't have to go to the front desk at all and the online check-in works smoothly so it's hard to say whether it doesn't work for the majority or does work for the majority based off of just the DIS.
