Hey, all.

My wife and I are planning a short vacation next year without the young 'ens. One of my goals is to have a nice meal together at one of the more upscale restaurants.

I had originally considered California Grille, but after looking at a recent menu, I'm not so certain. My wife is a fairly picky eater, and most of the entrees looked a bit on the---eclectic side.

My wife tends to favor traditional american dishes (steak, BBQ, etc.) or Italian food.

On previous trips we tried Rainforest (not bad, but typical chain food IMO) and Tony's at MK. Tony's didn't particularly thrill me.

Any other suggestions? Location isn't important as we will have a car, but we are hoping to stay at either the Boardwalk or Beach Club. How is the steak house at the Yacht and Beach Club?

Suggestions are welcome...

I too am a picky/plain eater and my favorite WDW restaurant is the Koan Cafe. I like the terryaki beef with sticky rice. Plus the tropical grounds of the Poly make it a nice atmosphere.

We recently dined at Shula's (Dolphin Hotel) and it's now one of our favorites for steak - had filets that were out of this world.

Be aware that while it seems pricy, the side dishes are HUGE and easily shared. (I understand splitting an entree is an extra fee, but side dishes were not). I.E., DH had caeser salad, I had steak tartare to start, we split an order of asparagus & each had a filet - no room for dessert.

We dined at the Yachtsman a few years ago, and while had no complaints, neither was it memorable in any way. (JMHO).

Have fun!

My husband is an extremly pickey eater and he enjoyed the
50's Prime Time Cafe in MGM. Not an upscale restaurant though.

My DH is also a very picky eater and some of the places he enjoys the most are 50's Prime Time Cafe (not fancy) La Cellier (sorry about spelling) in Canada, and the Garden Grill (also not fancy).

You may also want to try Spoodles at the Boardwalk or the Brown Derby at MGM.

I'm one of those picky eaters. I loved the Garden Grill. Even Marrakesh. The Moroccan food is toned down and was really quite yummy. There were a couple of things there that I wouldn't eat but it didn't take away from the entire meal. I can usually find something no matter where I go. Most of the time I may have to just push a side dish away because I won't like it. It saves room for dessert anyway! :p

Pick a restraurant you want to eat at. Your wife will have to walk on the wild side. It will do her good -- she may even enjoy it. Life is too short to be a picky eater.

The Yachtsman Steakhouse has been good and has a nice menu though is expensive. I have heard many people say Shula's is even better and is even more expensive. I had one the best Filets ever at Narcoossee's.

For a nice meal we've enjoyed Narcoosees and Artist Point. Something to keep in mind, if there is something you wife reads that strikes her as unusual, almost every place will prepare something more simple, or omit a sauce for you. Many places offer a fresh fish selection that is simply prepared and excellent. Many of the wonderful steaks can be served without the sauces or with them on the side. I've heard Shula's is great, but we haven't tried it yet. Another great choice is Palio at the Swan, elegant Italian with strolling musicians and candlelight.

I recommend Jiko at AKL. The filet with Mac N Cheese is so soo good. Great way to get a "picky eater" to enjoy a gourmet meal. There is also plenty for the not-so-picky to try too.

enjoy!

Concourse Steakhouse, Olivias, Palio's for Italian (quiet setting), Yachtsman Steakhouse. I'm not into real fru-fru food either and the foregoing are some pretty good restaurants.

The one thing I have found is that the WDW full-service restaurants are very accomodating to their guests. You can ask for just about anything on their menu cooked plain. If they can make it, they will. My mother is the world's fussiest eater and they have always pleased her. I love the Flying Fish on the Boardwalk right in front of the BWI. They have a great NY steak and I am sure you can get mashed potatoes to go with it. For down-home simple eating, take a boat ride from the Marketplace over to Olivia's at Old Key West. House of Blue's offers a great tenderloin with potatoes and veggies.

A few years ago I was on a trip with the ultimate picky eater. She would eat only pasta with plain tomato sauce or grilled chicken breasts. We ended up at the restaurant in Italy (Epcot) where she was perfectly happy. You may want to give it a try. (Funny thing about her picky eating -- she ate candy all day long!)

From one picky eater to another, you won't have any problems finding nice places to eat. Below is a list of must-dines for me at WDW:

Magic Kingdom:
1. Cinderella's Royal Table (lunch & dinner offer great prime rib)
2. Liberty Tree Tavern (kinda like Thanksgiving dinner for their character dinner)
3. Crystal Palace (good buffet with alot of the basics there)

EPCOT:
1. Garden Grill
2. Le Cellier (excellent meat here)
3. Rose & Crown Pub (prime rib very good)

MGM:
1. 50's Primetime Cafe (fried chicken dinner very good)
2. Sci-Fi Theater (burgers & shakes)

Animal Kingdon:
1. Tusker House (absolutely the best counter service food in any of the parks. The rotisserre (not sure if that's the correct spelling) chicken with mashed potatoes & green beans dinner is excellent!

Downtown Disney:
1. House of Blues (I found the chicken fingers excellent and had barely a little kick in spices and trust me, I'd know)

Resorts:
1. Grand Floridian: 1900 Park Fare (good, basic buffet)
2. Contemporary: Concourse Steakhouse (one of my absolute favorites -- excellent steak here)
3. Polynsian: O'Hana's (family-style meal. The fried rice is good, as is the beef, chicken & shrimp)
4. Yacht Club: Yachtsman Steakhouse (one of the best prime rib dinners I've ever had)
5. Spoodle's: I have the rigatonni with sausage and did not leave a bit on the plate. Was not spicey at all. They serve 3 types of bread and I found that the only one I liked was the foccacia bread. This is an absolute must place to dine for pasta.

Check out Deb Will's site (www.wdwig.com) for a complete list of detailed menu's under the dining portion of the site. I do and it helps me decide whether there is anything that I will eat at a restaurant. Saves going to eat and then leaving if I can't find anything on the menu.

Just dined at Artist point this week with a very picky eater. It's our new favorite restaurant! The picky eater had a flat iron steak with smashed potatoes and onion rings - he loved it! I had the tenderloin which was wonderful and last night I had the salmon (yes, we ate there twice it was so good). The cobbler for dessert is wonderful. Very nice, romantic restaurant.
