Hello

I am thinking of planning a trip to suprise my husband for his 40th bithday in Feb, thinking of 11 - 14th. we will hopefully have a budget of about $2000 for air hotel and spending money. We are value hotel type people but I would like to try some thing nicer if it in our budget, do not gamble alot, never been, he would like to see a magic show. is it better to buy tickets for shows before we get there or is when we get there good? what is the best way to get from the airport to the hotel, taxi, bus transfer.

Thanks
Nicole

Look up the Mirage and Ceasars. These belong to two different parent companies that own most of the strip. See if one offers a package that includes a show you would like. Or possibly a airfare package.

Rates for room are very sensitive to demand. You will always find Friday and Saturday are more than othe days. A large convention will raise rates for everywhere.

Depending where you stay some of the places are right near the airport and some are a few miles away. You can get a cab for $10 but it will depend a bit on where you stay. Remember these places are huge so if you stay in a place just behind a place on the strip you may be a quarter miles away from the action. So try to find place on the strip.

The only off strip place I like is the Rio because it has a free shuttle to thecenter of the strip.

Start checking out the various Casino website and sign up for emails. Most have rate calendars so you can check out room rates for when you are thinking of going. Sometimes several depending on the various packges they have to offer.
I would also vote for staying on the Strip.I would not go any further north than the Wynn resorts. We have stayed at NYNY & Mirage and like them both.
We give the Mirage a :thumbsup2 due to its location in the middle of the Strip and the pool. However in Feb. only location is a factor ;)

One other fun thing to possibly splurge on would be a limo ride. I did a girls only trip awhile ago and surprised everyone with this. Our driver met us by the baggage claim and help us load up, drove us down the strip and dropped us at the hotel. Well worth the money - i think it was around $50 and included a bottle of champagne, bottled water and a rose for each of us. Have fun!!

This isn't a bad idea. Also some of the places are real quick to get to. Somtimes if you randomly ask a limo driver if he/she could take you where you want to go for $20+tip, they may have time if their customer isn't coming for an hour. Just look for the guys walking around with a sign rather than activly holding the signs up.

Eh... sorta. The Rio shuttle actually goes to the front entrance of Harrah's, which is at the opposite end of the hotel from the Strip; plus, Harrah's is three or four hotels up from the real center Strip intersection of Las Vegas Blvd and Flamingo. Now, the Orleans and Gold Coast? Also off-Strip, but their shuttles stop on the side of Bill's Gambling Hall, a few yards down East Flamingo from the Strip, opposite Bally's :teeth:

It's a little early, but given the OP's desired dates, I'd check the various casinos for Sweetheart Deals. Literally. One year I got a great package at the Orleans for Valentine's Day!

Center of the Strip, that's argueable. But the Rio is far better to stay than the Orlean or Gold Coast anyway.
