We have been to the U.S many times and know the general rules for bar/restaurant tipping, but what is the ettiquete for tipping at gaming tables and the people who bring you drinks whilst gambling? If i'm at a table and lose everything do i still have to tip,if i win do i tip a percentage of what i win?I don't want to get it wrong and offend people.

In general I tip about $1 a drink. Or $1 every other drink. For me it depends on the drink quality, waitress service and speed.

At tables it is somewhat cutomary to leave a tip. knowlege of the games, and etiquette varies very widely so don't be over concerned. To keep it simple I leave $10 per hour of play. This can be really cheap if I win $500, or really generous when I loose $500, but very simple.

A variation of tipping I've seen done, is placing a bet for the dealer. I've seen this at crap tables and roulette but can't think of it being done at blackjack. The player asked if it was ok or simply stated this bet was for you (the dealer).

You can use cash or casino chips. But if playing a table game with markers like Roulette, they have no value when they leave the table, so give them a regular chip or cash.

I dont play table games, only slots, so I am not sure about tipping in regards to that part of your question.

As far as the coctail waitresses...we usually tip $5 for the first drink (one for me, one for hubby...so $2.50 a piece), then $2 ($1 for each drink) each time we order an additional drink. Tipping the coctail waitress = she will come around more often to check on you and see if you are doing ok. No tip = she may come around, but wont go out of her way for you. She will probably just mumble "coctails" and hurry by.

Thanks for that.I've never played at a table but would like to give it a go next time. Can you order any drink,or is there a restriction?

Most places it's simple drinks. Bottled water, soda, coffee, well drinks, bottles of beer.

Beers fine with me.As for table tipping, some of the things people have said on other forums make it sound more complicated than the rules of the game.

This works GREAT =

find a very quiet or empty table, begin to play and Ask the dealer the etiquette! "I would like to leave a tip, but not sure of the protocol?" Do I just put it on the table or . . .

If you are just doing okay - you will give two or three bucks at a time, as someone stated, up to about 10 or so an hour.

If you have a big win, you can give 10 percent or any amount you want - it really is discretionary (the amount).

Good tip:)i would rather play somewhere quiet first to see how i do before getting involved in the busier areas.

Years ago I found a very funny website written by a LV cocktail waitress. The bottom line was to:

Tip at least $1 for EVERY beverage (bottled water, beer, alcohol, etc)

Upon placing your order, GET YOUR TIP MONEY OUT (don't wait until your drink shows up because she makes quick drop-offs)

Don't try to help the waitress by taking the drink off her heavy tray, you may unbalance the tray and spill everything - WAIT FOR HER TO HAND YOU THE DRINK ... also, HAND HER any empties you have - don't put them on the tray itself

YES, it is okay to tip her with chips ... if you only have larger chip amounts, ask the dealer for some "silver" and push out a chip ... this is how you get "change" - but do this BEFORE your drink shows up!!

Don't ask the waitress for "change" if you only have a larger bill and/or chip -- you know you are going to be ordering drinks, make sure you have $1 bills and/or chips with you .... I ALWAYS make sure my DH and I have several because they can go fast in an evening ... LOL

The waitress will make a round to TAKE drink orders and then will return to DELIVER drink orders .... she will not be taking new drink orders during drop-off, so don't be offended if she blows you off or says, I'll be back in a minute

Remember that these gals work very hard. Sometimes they actually have to pay the casino to have their job ... so treat them nicely.

Very good information, stuff I never would have thought of especially about taking the glasses off and putting them on the trays. Thanks Van!
