The adventures of Tiggerdad (A collection of camping locations, mishaps, reviews, alterations, food, and whatever else I can find)

Spent most of day on beach. I made an attachment to put on my bike so I could pull beach wagon. This was important as I'm wanting to avoid crowds and the public beaches are mobbed.

The middle beach within the park is only accessed via walking or bike. And brother, i intend to take advantage of folks laziness.

If you look in very back of both pics you'll see a solid canvas of umbrellas. Not here. Not even behind us.
20200714_164042.jpg

The water is clearer than usual. Not a lot of wave action to stir it up right now.

No yellow flies!

Hot! Very little breeze back here on Sumac. I did go ahead and land site 17 this week next July however.

Apparently all bath houses here getting a remake. The one on Rabbit Road has a heap of trucks around it. Cutting tile this morning.

tiggerdad, I noticed on the GSP website that they list about 5 of the comfort stations as currently closed (maybe half of them) and the others are still open. Guess they'll flip flop and open the improved ones and work on the other old ones later.

You're familiar with 17 I know because it's across from your 18 of stays past. I stayed next to ya on the lake in 16 this past April when I was solo and have 16 reserved again for a week next April.

Your beach pix are so peaceful. NOBODY around and nice clear water. :beach:

Got outdoor kitchen set up.

Got some baked potatoes put on in place of some fries.

I had posted some time back about wanting a Blackstone but I had recently bought this two burner grill. Thus, I found a griddle piece that fit perfectly.

Then, I promptly cooked burgers.

I also promptly forgot to take pics of the finished product...

It worked out good though. No flame ups.
I plan to get up early for some biking while the girls sleep in.

That kitchen set up with chair and tv looks like a good enough place to chill for a few days!

We taking a beating right now. Big time lightning storm. Popped up out of nowhere. Raining heavy too. Sitting outside watching wet folks fly by on bicycles.

Cats are as far under bed as they can get. :)

Oh it is. It was massive selling point for me. Largest outdoor kitchen I've found on an RV. I like to cook and host. It comes in very handy.

The menu today involved a boiler/steamer/fryer

Water and not oil

A few ingredients...
20200714_202336.jpg

20200714_202350.jpg

About 5# of large shrimp, 8 ears of corn, and a bag of red potatoes.

I didnt have full pan pic as I got hurried big time by the previous mentioned storm. I do have one plate pic however.
20200714_202404.jpg

Turned out great if I do say so myself.

Rain most of day, but here it was light rain. North of us around Mobile it was pretty bad heavy rain most of day.

We visited friends in Orange Beach most of day. They have a home on the Intercoastal. We came back around 3pm and had a visit from @Flametamr and family. Joe, hate rain messed up a lot of your bike riding but very good to see you again.

This evening for dinner I ordered cooked seafood from Gulf Shores Seafood. Three orders of shrimp/sausage/corn/potatoes for DW, youngest DD, and myself and double cluster of crab legs for oldest DD.

20200715_210624.jpg

It was a BIT too much for plates so had to use serving pans.
20200715_210611.jpg

Not seasoned as well as I like. Not something I'd do again as really not a good soak. Maybe it was just a bad batch.

I made mistake of letting oldest DD serve the cats treats. These are the Temptations treats. Commercials always show cats running to you when you shake the container. DD tried to replicate this...the cats were CERTAINLY in for a treat.

Fail

Speaking of Huey, Dewey, and Louie, if any of you are wondering how cats are doing with camping.

To the beach this evening after dinner.

For those familiar with this beach more recently this walkway was showing its age. Boards splitting and rough on feet. Apparently more recently they replaced it with new pressure treated lumber.

Hello from the Tiggerdad family
20200715_210433.jpg

Boy they are spending some money on ol' GSP aren't they?

The new boardwalk to the camper's beach.

They were replacing the boards in the fishing pier floor back in May when I was there. And it's a couple thousands of feet long.

Remodeling the Comfort Stations.

Guess that means they're gonna be raising the rates soon, huh? :crowded:

Nice family photo, Michael.

Couldn't post much yesterday. No wifi and about one bar on cell signal.

We are home. Back to the grind. Last day was really nice weather.

That sea of crowded umbrellas at the pavilion beach...
20200716_125103.jpg

Notice the crowd near me.
20200716_125121.jpg

In fact, the only folks we were sharing it with were two girls who later claimed to be my daughters.
20200716_142823.jpg

I biked the entire campground looking for interesting rigs or setups, but I promise not a single interesting one. Seems that only happens when folks from the Dis show up.

So dinner last night I thawed out steaks.
20200716_191926.jpg

Mixed with leftovers from last two nights of shrimp and potatoes.
20200716_191934.jpg

Still had some left to take home.
20200716_191942.jpg

Well, I'm gonna unload and get in pool. Grass has not taken a vacation, so I'm going to have to fire up lawn mower this evening.

That's a nice beach set up. Probably my number one reason I don't care that much for the beach, all the people.

Nice looking grub too.

Tiggerdad,

My DW is ready to eat those leftovers in those last few pix. She was salivating while looking at the food photos over my shoulder.

Glad to hear you are home safe and sorry you had to elbow your way to the beach waterline through those hordes of people. I'm embarrassed for my little state, honestly.

Print copies of all your photos in at least 3 sets (one for you and DW, and one for each DD) and put them in photo albums. The time will come when they can be given those and remember all those great memories you/DW gave them.

I salute you!

Funny Ed, usually when down here we usually eat most meals at restaurants. Not this go around. I must say, the only bad meal was the one takeout meal. I didn't have to worry about waiting in line, table service, or high price. More time sitting and watching TV while food cooks.

I must say, the evening I was cooking shrimp took me way back to that first time when our families first got together over a shrimp boil.

Watching that poor guy try to back that huge toy hauler in that small site in front of us as we peeled shimp.

It was dark too.

Bless him.

:charac2:

Good looking family Tiggerdad! The kittens seem to be adapting to camping pretty well.
