Tipping

Hi Everyone,

We are coming to Las Vegas from Australia and would like some help with tipping. We are okay with restaurants and tipping our waiter/waitress, but for example, if we are going to a restaurant and would like a particular seat what would you tip the maitre d' to get the table you want? What about when you are at the hotel and hoping for upgrade or wanting to get an upgrade of seats at a show?

If you could please share your experiences it will be greatly appreciated as we don't really have this system in Australia.

TIA :)

I am a Las Vegas local, and tipping doesn't often get you the best seat in the house or upgrated room or show tickets, all of that usually comes from being nice, letting them know if you're celebrating something special ect. In Las Vegas, the upgrades are usually given to people who are spending in the casino.

As far as tipping anywhere else, always tip your waiter/waitress, the standard is 20% unless the service is very poor and even then you tip at least 10-15%. When you arrive, if you have the guy take your bags to the room, give him a few bucks, nothing huge $5 or less, same goes for valet.

Also, tip taxi drivers at least a couple bucks for short trips, 10-15% for longer trips.
